Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?
lojo replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Bass Guitars
I see guys buy quality tools from there also at silly prices Behind every cheap item, which was brought by them even cheaper than the price tag, there is a story -
I would like a fretted bass that has a good high tone for twangy funk/disco thats got a very thin fast neck, 4 string
not sure about the neck, but some great music of the styles you mention where made on standard Stingrays, Ps and Jazzes i know thats obvious, but often overlooked with the choices and specs we have have today
A note to Tyre Kickers: Gosh, wouldn't it be lovely if it had three/five/six/eight/twelve strings because I just know you'd have bitten my arm off and I already know how many of you would love it but are just too skint at the moment. Such a shame. Oh and it's neither overpriced nor underpriced. It's just priced. The quoted price is what I think it's worth. Your opinion on the subject doesn't matter.
Sorry pal, such a lovely bass, I have to kick the tyre, but see it as a bump, good luck with the sale and to the lucky git who gets it

alder body USA 62 RI and JAP one seem almost the same spec, and only mm in nut & neck sizes of each other price wise the JAP compares the the american standard P bass at £800 the USA 62 RI seems to be around £1500 in 3TS Why is the USA 62 RI £700 more expensive than its own standard P, specs are not that different are they Confused but tempted
this should fi the bill
yes thanks, did see this when it came up, price for condition is too much for me to pay and be happy with, i'm not saying its not worth it, just not to me very tempted to go for a new MIA, but I will hold out for a while and hope something comes up for a price I feel happy with 2nd hand

In my quest to find a sunburst 62 looking P bass I went into a local independent guitar shop who have overpriced vintage gear and some new stuff They had a MIJ jazz that fitted the bill but I want a P Anyway after them telling me how they imported a small amount of non export MIJ basses and that the price and quality was often better and cheaper than new MIA, I asked how much and how quickly they could get a P bass They then said, oh with exchange rates and all we are not doing it right now, and would not even give a guide price for one Not that I am overly keen on this route and am interested in knowing if its true, are new MIJ fenders really that good, and who does get these non export items out and up for sale, and for what cost?

I brought a Ric last year, always wanted one It has made me understand just how comfortable and used to the fender style body i am, and also how much i love them But having said that, my Ric is really fantastic, but has taken sometime to get used to it as it is feels and plays so different to anything I am used to, certainly as some say a marmite bass, and I love and sometimes crave marmite, just not everyday Next gig I get where there is some separation from the crowd and band set up, I will gig it again only for the second time, its in to perfect condition to risk it in a situation where the drunk dancers are on top of you

2010 Fender Precision Steve Harris Signature Bass
lojo replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Bass Guitars
I tried one out in the shop last year, really did it just because you don't often see a new bass in a shop with flats on so asked if I could try it I really did like it Its nice to just read a thread like this about someone just enjoying themselves -
I have been told my parents and grandparents that when I go to University, they will buy me a Music Man Stingray 5, as I have been wanting one for about 2 years now. I was wondering if anybody knew where I could order one to the specs that I want (i.e. colour, set-up, etc.) as I think that If I have to wait to get it, the least I could have is the bass I really want. If it helps, I want a Stingray 5 HH in Pacific Blue Burst with a Rosewood Fretboard and a matching headstock. Anybody know where I can order one from?
Wow, do they wish to adopt anyone? Good luck with it

I've settled on a RH450, does everything from home practice to a full band Gigged it again on saturday with a rock band, and I am very satisfied and want for no other amp anymore But it all depends on your budget and needs But id say for rock to pop this amp head is the biz, portable to, which is nice

I am on the look out for a classic looking sunburst P bass, considering anything vintage, nearly new, new I have searched to see what is around hoping to narrow down my criteria, What I have found is that every 2nd hand bass for sale is always "best we've ever seen" "this MIM is better than any MIA i've ever owned", etc etc Not really intended as a wanted post, but also just an observation from shops and private sellers (ebay etc), forum sales on here seem more honest Not wishing to travel the country to look, if anyone does know of anything hanging anywhere, please let me know

I have played bass off and on most of my adult life, at 41, I now currently only play covers Technically I am not a musician, I don't read notes, and have to work most stuff out before I attempt to play it in a band situation I have played in many pub and functions bands and been fortunate enough to play alongside some established people during my 20s (they did not know I was winging it) I bluffed my way through jazz standards for 7 years in a functions band by just listening to the records over and over (everyone else read) and take the same approach now with my covers bands So although I have had some fun, I have always been limited and felt fake Would taking lessons now improve me, or are my bad habits to ingrained and would take to long to undo Also I am worried finding out how bad I really am technically would spoil the fun I am currently having gigging covers Equally I do not wish to miss out on what I could discover if I took lessons? Any thoughts very welcome

Can anyone comment on the quality of MIMs in 2002/03 in general, I may buy one blind
-
I have had experience of both a tanglewood bass and an acoustic, both seemed way ahead of their price level
-
I had a tanglewood stingray copy, through body strung and played fantastic, gigged it loads
-
Congrats on a great purchase, I've been round the houses with amps and cabs since getting back in playing, but am now happy with my RH450, my eyes and ears haven't strayed at all since it turned up Now I want one of those 71 fenders in the above post
-
Thought the extra strings were added to get singers out of trouble when they cant cover the original recorded key and still want the same bass line
-
Now all we need is the PC setup they used in Weird Science
ive got my eyes on a us standard jazz, late 90's i think, maybe early 00's. My question is what colors did the us standards come in. The bass I am looking at is some kind of blue, probably lake placid blue. Did they do them in this color around this time? Also is there anyway to ensure that the body is american? I dont want to end up paying for a US Standard when infact the body is mexican and its just got a US neck... Cheers.
I have no idea what colours where offered on USA models during the early 00s but I brought a 2009 MIM P in lake placid blue and I know the colour was not on the MIA ones last year at least Having said that though, depending on the cost of the 2nd hand bass over its playability and hardware etc, it may not matter that its a bit of a frankenstein as long as you like it, how much is it up for?
They are both very good bas guitars. Just pick one and go Dum Dum Dum in time with the drummer. It'll sound sh*t hot. Trust me. Don't get wrapped up in the tone issue that is rife in this forum. It's a bass, end of. What ever you feel comfortable with will be brill.
So very true, but as with pre and post football match analysis is great fun to debate the stats and view points, assuming you like the topics anyway Cheers for the replies guys, love em both, but will only buy one
They are both great instruments if you get 'good one's'. I really like the early Stingrays with two band eq, through body stringing and chunkier bridge with mutes. The Stingray was the first production bass with an active e.q. and it was Leo himself who stated that the Stingray was the natural progression for the P Bass. Here's mine and I love 'em:
Its a good job you did not show me those when I brought the ric off you Lovely basses indeed, price?
