1. Not sure if I have asked the dumbest question ever or nobody who has viewed knows the answer?
  2. Does anyone know if the pick ups on a new MIA are better or any different to a current MIM Pbass?
  3.
Tough call as it is a really nice one. I got it from Peter Cookes when they had just received an assignment of 6 new Ricks (they called me when they arrived) and they were unpacking them for me to try. This bass felt and played better than the others I tried so I can attest that this is a good Rick. The only reason I sold it was because I got a 4001 Chris Squire and only use this at home as I find my other basses more suitable for the band's I'm in. Whatever you do, as long as you keep the bass in great condition you shouldn't lose out. Maybe you should invite trades and see if there is someone that has a real nice bass they wouldn't part with other than to get a great Rick.
Cheers Alan, received the the ticket in the post today! Yes, its a tough one, I am so happy with this bass, but its more an issue of I cant see me gigging it over a fender, at least in what I am doing at present I did play a 2nd set on it once, perhaps I just need a little more time in a gig situation find my sound through it Hope your getting on well with your CS, I see you have some great fenders, must be a tough choice for you when loading up for gigs
  4.
Sounds good enough reason to me, Lojo. I'm also lambasted for being a Status aficionado but I don't care, either. For me and all the stlyes of music I play, there's nothing better.
Fantastic, not fan myself, but love the fact that assuming you play Jazz? with all those chords and structures, you dig a 3 chord guitar band above all, music is great
  5.
As a purely pragmatic pro who won't keep a bass that isn't earning him money, I'd say that if you've already been thinking about it, you'll probably end up doing it and finding something else you'll gig. Much better in the long run. Anyway, who do you think you are with that Rickenbacker plank? Lemmy?
Ha, cheers for the replies guys Not Lemmy (although ace of spades is on the agenda for our tongue in cheek cheesy 80s set, crowds do seem to crave the heavier stuff once they've had a few) I first realized what bass was when I heard a wings album, I was really young, I mentioned it at school (along with a few other not so cool bands with nice bass lines) stood up for my taste and got beaten up for it, so I feel I earned the right to play one, but it took another 30 years to get one
  6. The flightcase price is nuts Still cant stop smiling though whilst using this amp, and agree 1/3 tube tone is the spot
  7. Hi Last year I decided to invest in a bass as an asset/toy, but apart from a MM id never really owned anything that impressive (because id always been happy with basic basses, I use a MIM P for gigs at the Mo) Anyway, Id always wanted a maple ric, since I was a kid, so after seeing Alan put his as new 4003 on the forum I raced round and brought it However, as much as I love it (play it alot at home), I have found that deep down I am really a fender/ernie ball guy gig wise I could and would be happy hanging the Ric on the wall (great painting!) for 20 years, but think it maybe better to pass it on to someone who may use it and release the money to get something id use more Perhaps a vintage fender bass? it would have to be something that would also be an asset Sorry for the life story, but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?
Your best bet is to play both and see which feels better to YOU. Pickups are easily changed and relatively cheap compared to a whole new bass. I now have 3 MIMs and I'm happy with all of them. The necks just felt more comfortable to me than the US standards they had in each time I bought one. The finishing was definitely better on the US models, but not £400 worth.
agree with that, i am happy with my MIM 2009 pbass, id love a USA made one, but its not worth the extra if comparing the new price
  9.
Can you say where you got that deal? Thanks.
Yes, bassdirect but only when I quoted the 799 deal andertons where doing http://music.andertons.co.uk/search?asug=&...af=&w=rh450
  10.
There is no such thing as a slow neck, only slow people.
I have never got this neck thing either, or blamed a slightly miss timed slide up to the 20th ish' fret on a slow neck My neck seems fast and slow, but is more likely the good and bad playing days, that you cant seem to pick

    SOLD 13/3/10

for £150 this is a very good bass indeed have a bump
  12. Played the RH450 and 212 last night Small club gig (120 people) we did an mixed 80s set pop, ska, funk, cheese, rock I used my MIM P bass (which I love) and got the sound I wanted, about 1/3 tube tone gives a lovely understated realistic growl If you had of swapped it for my orange cab behind me without me seeing during the set, I may not have noticed The best thing was also the first band on used my new rig, so I got to stand at the back of the hall and listen I had a smile on my face throughout We had bass also in the PA, but you could feel the bass from the cab On its own its fine, but I will add another, it does not need to go louder, but it may put the tone out better than our PA does Ive not tried the 210, but I am over the moon with this 212 I think ive found my dream portable rig, went in the back of the car got home and did'nt dread unloading

    SOLD 13/3/10

Ive played this very bass, lovely instrument, good luck with the sale mate
  14.
I assume your location is 'Daan Sarf'? In which case there may well be a few local BCers who'd maybe want to meet up and try a few combinations out; they might be just as interested to see how your RH450 sounds through their cabs. A few of us 'Ooop North' regularly do stuff like that and organise mini (3-5 man) bass-bashes, if you you don't have a local pub/club/village Hall that you can access free, local rehearsal rooms are reasonably priced. Might be worth starting a thread off about it and seeing what interest there is in your area!
Sorry, I am a southerner, but the idea is great I got my RH450, Bag and pedal for £799, just ordered a 212 inc cover for just under £500
  15. I used my RH450 with a borrowed ZOOT 212 (4ohm 600w) last night, but did'nt cut through the band no matter how I set the eq I had the RH450 on at 1/2 gain and output (not my cab so stopped there, believing that was already way past what should be enough anyway, though it was'nt) The sound of this amp is great, better than great, but i really confused as this cab is highly rated by its owner, who is a good musician Ive not used my Rh450 through any cabs yet, it almost seems it may be an amp problem (I dont own any cabs right now so cant test it through anything else!) The reason for me trying the cab (as for now di into PA is fine with this amp) was to see if in general I liked 12s, hoping to get some aguilars I now dont know what to think, and cant really get around too much to test for sale gear Ahhh, in search of cabs !
  16.
Both are still available, but I've had an offer on the NT so if there is a buyer for the other cab I will split, but I would prefer they both went together!
almost sure I need em! PM sent
  17. i am really loving this amp, though Ive only played through the PA and phones i am borrowing a zoot212 for its 1st gig on saturday (will be DI'd as well), as ive no cabs yet to go with it
  18. sorry no sale here, but id love to see a pic of the orange one, always fancied an orange bass
  19. Ran the RH450 into the PA last night with no cab, result was very good, cant wait to get a cab The results from the PA alone were good enough to convince me I don't now need a massive cab, just a good monitor and to add a bit of tone to what our PA can produce in smaller venues Great amp indeed this is
  20. I have a 2009 MIM P, so I can only comment on new MIMs in general I really love mine, obviously as someone said above you can get alot for that money 2nd hand, but in my case I really wanted the finish and maple board the MIM was offering at the time, so although I may have got something = to or better for the £400 i spent, I am however very happy with the bass indeed I know thats not quite what you where asking, but hope it helps
  21. Had a chance to mess around with this (RH450) this morning, if it sounds as good in a band situation as it does indoors then I may have found the ideal portable amp! Features are fantastic, its sitting on my desk at the mo with the ipod and phones plugged in, jamming without upsetting the household Tube tone is amazing, lovely subtle growl with it just on, does not sound false in the slightest to me I need to get this cab choice right, funds ready, just need to make the right choice Got a practice tomorrow (will DI into pa and perhaps run a 100w combo through the effects send in the absence of cabs!) No gig till 20th, so a little time to shop for cabs
  22.
I was too, and I settled on the RH 450 with two Purple Chili 1 x 12's.
Just wondering if you tried the TC cabs first and sound was also a factor in your choice to pair the RH450 with differing makes of cabs?
  23. I sold my last jazz bass, currently loving my P, but id buy another jazz bass tomorrow if one came up nearby, then I would walk around in circles wondering which one to take out each time Impossible question for me today
  24.
I play in a Doom/sludge band with a lot of low end, and also play through a Bass Big Muff.
To date we have no doom/sludge music in our covers catalogue, could we slip one into an 80s set? sounds great
  25.
Good un! Went on GuitarGuitar today, looked at their RS210 and Combo 450. The 210 was the inbetween finish, the combo the new shiny finish. They look really good in either, but the shiny version wins it for me. I'm glad I went for 210s as they are just about the right size.
I intend to get used to the head over the next week or so , then try out various cabs (begantinos etc) I think there are alot of options Hope to narrow it down with research before my play on stuff day trip! Really looking for a portable rig, 2 cabs with the best tone and punch I can get for my money Then not look at gear for 10 years (perhaps a few basses maybe)
