1. Thanks again , I know midi is binary on and offs , but I thought the midi in on my amp might handle all the required commands , which it obviously doesn't , just a few commands . Would it be much more expensive for a multi amp effect unit to be able to process midi data ?
2. music is like food , you either like it or you don't , and experts can debate the pros and cons of each , but does it mean tomatoes shouldn't exist just because I don't like them
3. I don't think much has changed in what's on offer , you just can't find everything on the same shows anymore . There's great inventive acts all all genres , great bands and front people , and there's lots of commercial 4 chord songs with boring production and safe singer
4. There is no right answer to this thread , but i believe firstly you must know your songs well and have own default tone. After this what is wrong with either having fun replicating sounds or reinventing depending on your personal and bands desires, or just sticking to your own sound all through , That's just 3 possible routes and id enjoy a band doing any of them well. I love playing effects, I can do picked overdrive Stranglers type sound then do 80s fretless to bright compressed 80s pop lines.
5. Thanks for all the help guys n girls very helpful and informative , hope I've not wasted your time but I've just blown £300 on a Korg R3 YOLO Cheers LOJO
6. Thanks for all the replies My goal is to play keys bass through my bass amp I have a good synth in the multi amp If I can trigger the synth with a cheap 2 octave key board that's great , otherwise I'm looking to have to buy a bass station keyboard just for one sound Last gig i took a full size Roland which was over kill as I play electric on most songs This is a one of gig , most likely my last ever so I want to keep costs down
7. My multiamp which has the synth in has midi In and through , this might work ?
8. Thanks BT I know I can convert midi to usb with a coverter for use with my mac, so if I can convert to Jack that solves it Otherwise would a cheap modern keyboard controller send a Jack signal like a guitar ?
9. Hi i have an old midi keyboard controller which id like to use to trigger a simple 80s saw wave type sound live If I buy a midi to Jack lead and run into into my markbass synth will that work ? Alternatively what about a modern keyboard controller ? I don't want to have to buy an all singer dancing bass synth keyboard Thanks for any help
10. The fact that only myself and a few bass or production thinking people in each crowd will notice my attempt to replicate certain bass sounds in a varied set is enough for me to want to and enjoy doing it. There's no rules really is there One thing I would say though as a personal thing, if it's a guitar / bassist changing tone controls or effects or a keyboard player changing patches it has to be quick , smooth and well organised in advanced with no noise. If your not completely ready and preset don't do it.
11. We play (played) a whole range of 80s music , whilst it wasn't totally necessary, I had a multi amp set to give me all the required tones and I enjoyed refining them , however the audience experience would not have been different if I just played a clean p bass on every song.
12.
I don't think I've ever listened to an Oasis song. I remember something where they were comparing themselves to The Beatles or something like that. So, they were off my radar from jump. Blue
I thought that wouldn't go down well with you
13.
This came up on shuffle in the car yesterday. Excellent solo, Don Felder I assume. http://youtu.be/zcuxY8qiBZw
That whole song is in my top ten As a teen in the 80s Butterfly Blue , Iron Butterfly
14. Like it or hate it Liam had something in his early days , both vocally and stage attitude wise.
15. Can't help but lovely place , best wishes
16. I love a fair amount of their stuff , I went off them a bit when they where complaining about people wanting them to play "creep" , as I was also fed up of hanging doors at that point
17.
Wherever I Lay My Hat
That bass line was written by Martin Lavender
18.
Nice n Sleazy by the Stranglers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwxIY3E6Af0
Yeah that is one is brillient -- Impossible to pick one only , from JJ (stranglers) to JJ (Motown) its all fantastic , and then there's more subtle lines like I posted above that are al the song needs , and therefore brilliant also
19.
I actually thought her vocals were ok especially under hugely emotional circumstances.
Yes , dispite being a global star , she is a very young girl with a big heart who seems to have understandably taken it very personally. I think she will become some kind of symbol for peace / democracy and perhaps go on to have some sort of role in something for good
20. It's going to turn into "he played what is required" threads There was a clip of a drummer going nuts on the kit over a Beatles record , then he played the Ringo thing to prove its that right choice
21.
I haven't seen any of those movies. 2001 fulfilled my space movie needs
Whilst we are on the topic of revisiting old things, watching that again should go on my list , thanks
22. There's a 76 in bassdirect for 2.5k
