1. My only goals are to play well what gets thrown at me in terms of covers , which are all 80s genres and disco for the tritubes. I am though now playing keyboard synth bass live so that's a new thing I'm learning.
2. This went well , but my only issue was I'd not considered my fancy dress . I had a boy George type hat on (we dress up 80s) and the plan was to whip of the bass but it on the stand hit the a/b switch and play there was no delay in changing instruments. The strap wouldn't go over the hat without pulling it off. Another than that love it , really need to find a smaller keyboard synth now as I'll do this everytime
3. I'd love to play the ax synth , but I need to use both hands
4. Thanks everyone It's a Korg Triton , its way to big but I borrowed it from our keyboard player who doesn't play it anymore and I'm used to it Want to play something smaller like a Novation , but I need a few weeks I think to sort this and no time before sat to get used to anything else
5. I like Andertons , I've always found them really helpful , when I've visited Gak and other stores I've often felt silly for asking questions and not being 100% sure of my knowledge before entering the shop
6. After becoming increasing frustrated with not being able to replicate the sounds of some of our 80s synth based bass songs on the bass guitar , I've been practicing keys bass. This Saturday will be my first proper outing and I'll play a mixture of bass guitar and keys synth bass. Can't wait , but it's like first gig nerves I haven't experienced for 30 years Anyone else do this ?
7.
I was a big fan of The Truth in the early 80's. They rose from the ashes of Nine Below Zero after their split. They never really made it that big, although they did get on Top Of The Pops with this. Any one recall it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Iyob4kjqM
I've got that 45 someone , loves this stuff along with the circles and makin time etc
8. In the 80s as a teen I was playing a homemade cricket bat , I'd have smiled forever if I'd have been able to get my hands on a bass like those in the OP
9.
Martin Turner, Wishbone Ash on their eponymous first album. Loved the twin lead guitars too but the melodic bass playing stuck in my head.
Saw him last year , great set For me i was drawn to bass ever since I can remember hearing music
10. Just because potentially anyone could do something to a certain level doesn't mean we should knock those that have passion and have developed a craft.
11.
All bassists know this - but unlike singers and guitarists we don't bang on about how important we are..
Yep , keep it amongst ourselves , we're like the Men in Black
12. After a 7 year break (longer if you don't count silly projects) I picked up again in 2009 and still play with the same people I met then
13. At my next gig I'll have a 4 string , a 5 string (for a few songs that require it , but I don't want to do the whole gig on it ) and a keyboard for some synth bass . it's getting really silly I know , but it's fun
14.
I'm not offended but it shows how much with work there is still to do in educating people about mental health issues.
I agree with both the comment and your reply , I was badly let down by adults when I was a child and whilst with modern day understanding their issues and actions come with valid and real excuses , if you've been on the end of it , surely you have the right to be a little critical .
15.
" Looking for experienced singist. Must be African American lesbian catholic with one leg aged between 29-30 - must love dogs " "PS must be left handed"
Bugger , I've really tried to like dogs
16. I brought a second hand p bass in 2010 which had old flats on it and I still use it with them on , to be fair it's not my main gigging bass but when I get to pay music that suits old flats , it's perfect and a joy to play
17. Lovely Collection The last time I brought a couple of items from an advertised collection the seller had put individual prices on , I found this attracted me , I've an interest in one of your basses but have no desire to send a private email to get a price as it just doesn't feel right in the spirit of the forum Not telling you off , just saying as others might feel the same
18.
You're not an Elvis fan are you? Because I've got some bad news.
Oh no , don't tell me he's had an accident on the Dark side of the moon ?
19. Andrew Ridgely Jokes aside , from what I read after George Micheal's death , this guy was instrumental in thier early success , fairly play to him for achieving that and setting himself up
20. My covers band ... London Calling My 80s band ... usually an uptempo blondie song
21. My wife not only hears me learn new songs, she often comes to the gigs , it's impossible to ever repay that
22. 100-45/40 , not sure why but I find 105 feels odd
23. Des'ree's lyrics in "Life" especially the toast line are IMO the worst lyrics ever ,and spoil an otherwise catchy well sung pop song , but not sure that qualifies for worst song ever
