1. Went to see Level 42 last night and was highly entertained , and the support act fantastic. However the stand out thing was Level 42s drummer "Pete Ray Biggin" , check him out , how can someone be so all over the kit and noticeable without ever over taking or crowding the music , amazing talent.
2. Make contact with him and ask if he can give you the heads up on any tracks he might want you in on Nothing wrong with a bit of prep before an unrehearsed party jam
3. It's was one of the main events in Scooter rally calendar during the 80s , not sure if it still is?
4. The question is not "do I need a P bass" but rather "how many P basses should I own"
5. The latest craze seems to be ernie ball cobalts , and with good reason
6.
S'ok, I've survived nearly 30 years of bass life without ever even touching a P-bass and I'm still intact
Have you checked everywhere ?
7. 4 strings stretched to a certain tension a specific distance from some stabilised wood, with a handful of fairly basic electrical components. Genius , but also achievable in a shed without a lab and million dollar equipment. Sometimes we make far to much about it, but it is fun. Fenders are great , and the ones that aren't are only a few component changes or tweaks short of being so
8. I usually only buy basses with knocks in already , just couldn't resist this
9.
So it's a £500 piece of wall art you occasionally fondle I'd be putting the photos up in "Basses for sale" about now. But that's me, no class
Yeah , but to be fair it's an asset , like a cheap diamond
10. Anyone ever had a instrument that your not sure what do with ? My p bass is a CIJ 70s with US spec , still has the vintage US pickup sticker on neck plate . It's unique as it has reversed pickups and is a prototype of the Rocco Prestia Signature based which never got released http://youtu.be/puY2_cRLMbQ Anyway , I leave it on the wall , it's a bit special because of the rarity (although I know this doesn't make it valuable) , but I don't wish to get gig dents in it and I'm not usaully one who hoardes gear that isn't being gigged, or at least could be. I love this bass , both to play and as an ornament , but this just seems wrong somehow
11.
A quick Google search had his net worth at $125 million. Nice to see that.
Sure is Scary though, all these guys dying in their 60s with presumably no restrictions to the highest level of health care
12. I've not read all the thread , but re point 1 "against" in the first post , is it not possible to use your bass amp as a sub from the Pa so still retain the tone out front ?
13. I thought I knew RTs work well , but since his death there's tunes that have got played that I was not aware he had a hand in I hope any marketing of his work now he's been given more media attention (almost like northern soul did a few years back) means proceeds go to the correct places. He seem a nice guy and kept out of the limelight , have no clue to his business mind though
14. Wasn't thriller just heatwave tracks with a different singer ? Yep those early heatwave albums where fantastic
15. I got asked to lend my rig recently , by the father of a teen band member that has a big gig (for them) and they don't have a decent amp yet , it's £1500 worth of mark bass , against my better judgment , but I wished someone would have done that for me.
16.
Just do the U2 version.
Or Neil Young
17. Guess it will all be romantised, but my memories of punks as a young kid was volience & glue sniffing , although most that acted like that where more rockabilly / physicobilly types more than punks.
18.
Not at all Mick, I agree with all of that 100%. A lot of people dismiss the homeless saying they do it by choice, just to opt out of "normal" society.
There is an element of truth to that in some cases , where someone offered help would not want to change their situation , or do anything that might require dealing with questions or forms etc , but the reason they have got to that point in their decision making begs the question that whilst it's a choice technically , the person has lost the ability to actively choose another path. Asking someone cynical of homeless people to understand how a simple choice like getting off the streets would be difficult to some , is like asking someone uniformed to understand the thought process behind suicide or addiction. We are all one or two disasters away from rock bottom , and anyone can end up there, I've worked in rehabs and shelters and have met people from every starting point, scary stuff. Back on to the Op , well done on the fundraising , just don't tell Blue you did a free gig
19.
without the bass
Heretic
20. I think I agree with the Op , but will certainly be entertaining on a cold winter night in
21.
By listening to records & trying to copy what I heard.
Pretty much this , plus a couple of basics books
