1. Is the short cable from my bass to my wireless transmitter suggested to be upgraded to optical cable (not that I would) or is it just for long stage leads ?
2. Yes , a bass has to fit your likes and self perceived image
3. Never been gigged (but has been used to swot flies, and as a tennis racket at home)
4.
The future of everything is wireless, No one is going to go back to a lead in the professional arena even if it's made of unicorn hair. It is totally pointless. Re brand them as heft adding leads and we will see them joining a lime light to a barefaced via a handbox in no time
I think your right about wireless as the standard these days , but I'm not sure unicorn hair is ever going to be useful in cables , it's great for bowed instrument though , really pushes up the mids
5. I don't get all the bad technique comments , even if it's true , which I doubt, then are all dails, gadgets, setups, straps etc all chosen in an effort to get you playing with ease and sounding how you want ?
6. So the dragons can be fooled then It's also interesting than none of the successful dragons spent there time buggering around with guitars during their lives , might be one of the keys to success.
7. Discussion about the bassist here .... https://www.talkbass.com/threads/john-klingberg.389174/ --- Question is , is the imperfection in the line , perfection
8. If the trade value of something I want is less than the sale price , then it's better for me to purchase the item the member wants in a trade than to pay cash ?
9.
Can you define
Oh no not again
10.
It's the only relevant part. The whole idea of a cover band is to play tunes that the audience knows.
That's what most people do , but if you played obscure or unliked music , you'd still be a covers band
11.
Anyway, why is a cover song called a 'cover'? When one covers* something one is physically placing something over something else e.g: 'Cover that jam sandwich (up) or the wasps'll be at it' or 'The sofa's looking a bit shonky. Let's get some loose covers.' We should call cover bands something else. Copy combos? * In the non-procreative sense
Or it's about taking responsibility to do something , like I'll cover you , or number of seats to feed in catering. This is closer to the the meaning of covering a song, but still not the same Copy band would be OK , but then we would have a thread about "define copy" and if exact copies where better than reinventing
12. Crowd pleaser or the most disliked record ever made, if it's been released before , it's a cover If you checked in "you wanna be in my gang" I'm not sure it's a crowd pleaser , but it would be a cover
13. I want a mapled necked version of that blue bass now. The Bernard Bass thing I find nice, he's a fan and is still chuffed by it, nowt wrong with that.
14. Thanks for replies
Is this for practicing against?
No its for gigging, so we would like BVs on the tracks and I assume midi music , so we can mute certain instruments and have them played live or not.
15.
Are there ANY bands doing a full set of covers taken from obscure albums passing them off as their own or at least not mentioning it in any way?
I did start a band once where we picked songs that members loved that were not well known, we had real fun in the studio but never gigged. If we had, we would have still called ourselves covers. I seemed to remember the Australian girl from Neigbours passed off "Torn" or a similar song as an original , then Chris Evans found european version which sounded exactly the same and predated it, so Im sure its not done and got away with 100s of times in the charts.
16. How about what your used to ? The distance between and where they are on Fender style basses I'm used to , I've basses with longer scales and more frets but I have to think more about my left arm position
17. Going to bump this , another plea to see if anyone on here is using backing tracks ? To add, we currently have old backing tracks files which include backing vocals , but they are audio files , although clearly with midi instruments , but obviously we can't edit
18.
But if a band plays one original tune are they still strictly a cover band.
Yes they are a covers band playing an original in that moment , but it's an original in a covers set If you play more than 48% of covers or originals then you can define yourself as either
19. Can I suggest a covers band is ... A group of 2 or people who in a live or semi live situation , reproduce music previously released by other artists, regardless of level of professionalism or talent. If you play mainly original music and slip in odd cover , you are not a covers band , but a band simply doing a cover in that moment
20. Can anyone help me please What is the best way to get backing tracks where certain instruments could be muted , for example either full track or mute bass, or drums and bass , keys etc ? It's a long time since I messed around with midi and cubase, so I'm really out of touch. Looking for a good service providing quality tracks and the best software for live situations.
21. My markbass sounds great with both rounds and flats with all dials set flat , not a very scientific reply I know, but perhaps different amps respond differently.
22. b2a is a great bass , I've got one and paid under £300 for it
23. It's funny how covers are frowned upon by some , yet stage shows run for 20 years and people see them multiple times Like the point about orchestras , they are essentially a covers band
