1. My main band does 80s covers , and sometimes get referred to or call ourselves as an 80s tribute Essentially we are a covers band that limits the spectrum we play, but the good thing about it is if someone books you , you know they really want what you play
2. A lot of this comes down to the hall manager / caretaker on the day actually being bothered to enforce it , especially if there is no technically mined sound guy appointed by the hall , they may or may not , but it's still a worry going in. I'd tell the bride and groom the band might lack the punch and solid sound due to these restriction and if you have to play accordingly , honour the commitment etc. Last place I played with DB restrictions , the caretaker actually told us how to tamper with it to over ride (and said he didn't say it)
3.
I think it would be my perfect bass then (but would it also be significantly devalued too?).
Surely if it was your perfect bass, then it becomes priceless to you , and sale value is never going to be an issue unless you hit absolute rock bottom in life.
4. 50th birthday bash booking on saturday was fun, nobody books an 80s band unless they are up for it, so these generally work out to be a blast Support slot on sunday for a Take That tribute , enjoyed our set and the atmosphere after , drank far to much Larger in the sun. Getting to old to do 2 in weekend then go back to work monday .
5. Brought a white / maple 2eq stingray a few weeks before this came up , if I hadn't this would have been perfect
6. Can anyone take on a Wurlitzer 200-a repair project ? Long shot , but thought I'd ask I'm Based in Surrey
7. No topics showing up on thier user page

9. In support of singers, how many of us have gone to a gig under the weather and just got through it to keep a commitment, playing a set on an instrument with a virus or bug is one thing, but to front it out and need to sound good is another. Having said that singers know what they are getting into, they need to man or woman up sometimes and do a show under par, but there must come a point where it cant be possible.
10. Wasn't the best post of the last thread something like ..., If I went to a gig a saw a stand I'd walk straight out ?
11.
The most replaceable bass player in music
Yep, none of those lines are as hard as Moondance
12.
Not too long if the non-pro working band bothers to learn the bleeding material between rehearsals!
Yeah, musicians no excuse , but sometimes there are a lot of lyrics and prompts are needed.
13.
only to find that the guitarist tuned to D rather than E and everything he had given me was around D tuning.
I think most classic rock songs sound really muddy and horrible when the band plays D tuned, no matter how tight it is.
14. Its nice to have a polished, well learned , deeply ingrained in the brain set of music and lyrics, and not have anyone need stands, but it takes a while for a non pro working band to achieve that. Think the last thread threw up loads of pics of ageing legends all using stands
15. Sometimes you just have to honour your commitment and get out as soon as you can
16.
Also...I play keyboards in a Gary Numan covers band, and we're approaching our 30th anniversary
That id love to see , any details ? In our 80s tribute we are doing some Human League (but not the early stuff as in the op) , some work well with guitar and analogue electric bass, we are looking to do more electronic stuff as it does go down well
17.
In an effort to get back on topic, I think the capitalisation has occurred because the legend TAB is often written (descending vertically) at the start of a piece, to distinguish it from the standard notation:
Funny that it has to say TAB, just incase you don't know Not learning to read is a real regret of mine
18. Tab is a quick way for non readers to get the jist of a song they already have in their head slightly quicker than working it out by ear It has its place , but is limited I can't read and only Google for tabs if I'm in a hurry , as you'll always habe to alter it (it's never 100% but can save a bit of time) Also it's often written with open strings instead of more comfortable positions (for me at least) If you can read I see why you knock it , but it has some use to many , I remember my first bass book of riffs was in both notation and tab , I had no idea how to read , but the tab got me playing at least .
19.
When I was learning bass guitar back in the mid 60s we had to move the needle back and fourth on 45 rpm vinyl to learn songs. Indeed it was frustrating and hard.
We where still doing that in the late 80s Someone posted above about pitch being out ? I find you sometimes have to find one note by tweaking the tuning slightly , then retune, some tracks are between notes
20.
Nice post Paul! Big fan of the Specials and Horace's work with them. I'm guessing you already know of Andrew "Blueblood" McMahon? He played bass for Chester Burnett (Howlin wolf) in the 50's before becoming a singer, the reason kay k162 bass is referred to as the Howlin' wolf bass.
Nice photo , the keys look heavy to move though
21. Watched the penalty shootout whilst playing Flashdance & Theme from the Kids from Fame
22. So considering all the above info , it's a buggered bitsa ?
