1. I've used both Tc and Markbass for the kind of gigs you are taking about , and whilst both amps are fantastic , I stick with Mark bass because I find it's a great blank cAnvas for either a natural bass sound or effects/amp modling depending on the style of song I'm playing.
2. I'm sure this has come up before and I remember getting that spirit album in the 80s , as soon as I heard it I looked at the date to see if it was post Zeppelin
3. Just out of interest what do you all think this is worth on the second hand market for a quick sale ?
4. For those of us who play functions or pubs and clubs , I see buying decent gear as no different to the guys my age who buy top of the range golf clubs or sports cars/bikes. Personally I'm happy with fairly standard classic basses , but I use multi amp which cost a lot just to play 50th birthday functions in golf clubs. Im not into golf, sports cars or anything else that requires purchasing equipment , and my bass playing just about almost pays for itself (if you don't factor in time)
5. If you want to split is be interested in the controller
6. I've an ampeg practice amp , it's got headphone an aux inputs, really useful thing
7. Wonder who's it was , someone on here ?
8. S Zender and RH Taylor certainly excited me as bass players at that time, I believe they played in ways that had not been done before. I remember constantly listening to "blow my mind" so simple yet fresh. Whilst I'm in awe of M Miller and his peers, I lose the emotional attachment to their music when it becomes about the bass over the style where someone like Zender plays the most beautiful and groovy lines that support the song rather than sit on top of it (if that makes any sense)
9. Can you not structure the parts better in rehearsal , only play on this break or these notes during the bridge , stay out on the verses etc ?
10.
You know what? Of course there are exceptions. But my take at the end of the day ; If your not famous, save the introductions. It's not required. Blue
Our band is quite tongue in cheek , we play a lot of the cheesey 80s hits, we dress up in clothes of the time and give people a nostalgic evening without the "only this genre is cool" thing that existed at the time . Any indroductions are done in the same spirit , so I might get mine when pretending to be john Taylor during a bass break. It really works when the crowd are with you. It's not trying to be famous , it's a laugh / act . Perhaps it's a culture thing, we can take the Mick out of ourselves
11. It can be done in a non pretentious fun way at pub / bar level , but only if the crowd are really on your side. We don't plan it in , but sometimes the singer does it during solos or breakdowns, or at other times, but I don't think it should be contrived.
12. To me there are 2 things I like to do 1. Play gigs and enjoy the party side of things 2. Play music for the sake of music I can seldom combine the 2 but sometimes it happens, so I have to enjoy both separately
13. One member over doing it would be too much, you've got 2 ?
14. Pubs seem to shoot themselves in the foot these days , I'd invoice the brewery as well, state in a nice note you totally understand why they did it but you had other offers on the table and are entitiled to your fee after being cancelled at short notice.
15. I did a few like this with a classic rock band, not competition but charity festivals . They where quite well attended with camping , so at least we could drink and enjoy the other bands, they turned out to be quite fun days Agreeing to gigs, or not is always a choice up front Hope you got on ok in the competition ?
16.
OK they are expensive tops but they remove the need for subs unless you are a Motorhead tribute act
If manufacturers and outlets wrote stuff like this instead of technical jargon , the world would be so much simpler Thanks for all the replies
17. A shy front person can be interesting , but they must really have a talent vocally to get away with it
18. I've got a Yamaha BBN5 and its really impressive for the price range Also very easy to switch to if your used to fenders
19. Thanks for taking the time to reply We would be in the functions category so I expect 2 k upwards Putting a trickle of everyone in seems sensible, we currently mic the kick to give it a bit of presence
20. Cheers Drums, bass, guitar, keys, vox x 2 Would be handy to have a few spare for extra vox / brass etc Budget flexible but interested what minimum to meet requirements is I realise small might not be the right word , but looking for smallish cabinets / wedges and hopefully minimal power leads
21. Anyone advise ? Portable plug n play system for halls / function rooms gigs Good controllable fold back , and ability to trickle all instruments in to assist balanced sound out front and back at band I'm totally loving our little functions band , the only thing I don't look forward to is setting up our dated pa made of loads of bits with different wedges all needing own power etc .
22. Mark bass run flat is a fantastic blank canvas to for specific basses and effects , a P bass to me just sounds perfect through a flat Mark bass rig
23. Structures first , look for odd bars and those little things , make a bar / structure count on an index card that I'm confident of (always useful) Learn the lines , perhaps start with basics and add fills and thrills as time allows Hope the rest of the band is also putting the effort in
24.
This from someone who went from 2 basses for 20 odd years to 22 basses once stumbling across basschat! It's a slippery slope!
Ha , hope you enjoyed the journey I'm only talking about the 2nd hand market , where loses are minimal , it's almost like rental trying different basses that are for sale on here . Just when I had a couple of perfect 4s , this comes along to change things
