Where does he get them all from?
-
Slightly off topic , but I'm looking out of a 70s precision and it's so hard to know what a fair price is As someone said above Andy Baxter is high end , but also the quality and confidence is high end, perhaps paying slightly more is not an issue if the private sale prices catch up to what I've paid in a few years It's fun keeping an eye out though
-
Just let me know what modern precision you wish to trade it in for and I'll do you a door to door service
-
I've a Japanese precision , with USA pups, it's a 70s style chunky neck, with stock reverse pickups (a never released Rocco Prestia signature) , it plays and feels like a beast.

Too many to choose one , but if we are talking mainstream pop , then ... Rio John Taylor was a major influence in me picking out bass in music

I'm a mark bass user , but if mark bass became outlawed , I'd have no issues going over to an Rh450 , I gigged one for a year and it was awesome
You beat me to it, I was going to say, "Surely it depends on how good a mate it is?". With our ceilidh (Barn Dance) band we generally work on our standard fee. If a member or members decide to waive the fee for a mate or a charity, then we subtract that from what we ask the customer. For some events with common interest then we can end up doing for free, or just charge for the caller (Not technically part of the band). We recently did a dance in the village and raised £750 for an MS charity. We all waived our fee as the sousaphone players wife has MS. If we hadn't done it for nothing then we'd only have raised £350. Personally I'm quite happy that the whole band fee (normally £400-ish) went to the charity instead.
This approach is best

I've had an ice cream at a fake festival , it's a fair cop
Are you asking them to learn 30 songs for an audition?
Quite, cant you pick 2 or 3 that cover the spectrum and ask they choose a few of themselves , 5 is more than enough to know if they can do it , the other half of the audition is sounding them out as a character, which will be hard if you spend the evening playing 30 tracks
-
Remember that you're auditioning them too !
This Also , unless you are given specific instructions, just play your best, that may mean working out an exact line, it may mean playing it a little your way, but whatever you do just hold it down. Don't worry, whats the worst that can happen is its a rubbish band and you've spent an evening out.

Cheddatom, fair comment, I am most likely being over sensitive, and like all of us, have my own musical snobbery areas. I guess there is a thin line between fun banter , and being someone being seriously negative toward things others like in an elitist manor. Add to that its difficult to know the sentiment behind text based comments. Surely the covers / tributes are not real music type viewpoint threads have been over done, happy to see some negative views on things others love, but surely we can come up with a new topic. I guess some originals purists just like to feel superior.
The whole "Original versus Covers" thing is a devisive, dreary and pointless argument. In my opinion, of course.
It is pointless but it really winds me up, there was never any constructive point to this thread, other than for the early contributors to use phrases like "cringe worthy" and "unimaginative", aimed at players and audiences they believe to be beneath them. I find this completely wrong, there are covers players and audiences all over the place who have great time based on this stuff, why take a pop at it. Fair enough if its not your cup of tea, but starting a thread on it I think is really "unimaginative", its been done more times than Mustang Sally , what about all the new bassists that stumble across this forum who are just learning the classic covers as their way into gigging, its not very positive is it ?

Bowie, Rickman and Frey , all completely unexpected , makes you think. One of the these nights , is in my top 10
I clearly didn't say that though, did I... But let's not allow the facts to get in the way of rhetoric huh?
Please no, that would be boring You've clearly had a pop at the players and punters , its all on page 1, you cant duck out now

Every year there is one of these near me, its a fundraiser, it sells out and locals walk there with their picnics, friends and family etc, they then enjoy tribute acts and covers bands, dance a little, and enjoy socialising. This year I will refuse to enjoy it and take along milk crate, at some point I will stand on it and shout "Stop this at once, go home, Jellyknee's and other members of an interest based forum think you are uncool, return to your homes and do not ever let unoriginal music pass year ears again."

My main basses are 2nd hand Fenders, brought with dings in with gigging in mind I have a bass that wont go to pubs/party gigs, but I use only on safe stages
-
I don't mind covers bands but I hate covers threads

Using a bass amp in a pub , with a loud band, might mean when your standing in front of your cab, your loud. If you can get someone to give you a thumbs up or down out front, or walk out with a wireless on, at least you'll know your ok, out front regardless of your own mix. The sound will change also as the venue fills. Make sure you get the lower frequencies out of the vocals and of the guitars / keys also, this helps the mix not be to muddy in a small venue

I did one the other year , classic rock, filling in for a friends band their bassist was away. Think there where 12 bands over the day, a good few thousand and a nice real ale beer tent, a good non cynical atmosphere, and money for charity. Great fun really. I understand why people don't like covers/tributes etc, but why start a thread knocking events like this?

Whilst it would seem you limit your market to local , if the shop has a good web presence and reputation, then it could make your market worldwide. Obviously the bass needs to special to attract interest overseas buyers though. I was considering doing this with a bass , bass direct said they would mark it up 20% I guess if your selling a cheaper bass, it saves you the hassle of posting , and there's always people buying starter instruments

I generally find if you want something, you can find enough reviews and information to justify it being a good idea

Precisions - How do you justify having two (or more!)?
lojo replied to jbasst's topic in Bass Guitars
I currently have 2 precisions , and another project precision on hold, I'm also looking for a 70s precision Justification I collect and play basses, I can sell them on to recover the money if I wish , like art etc. Also I am not into sports cars or golf clubs -
The maths guys and the experts i've heard say you shouldn't mix , but my old orange 115 plus 410 was not to be argued with. Now I use a lightweight 2x210 though

Having work ?

As above , I'm struggling with my DI settings , I want it to do want my LM2 did , post EQ Di signal that is constant and not effected by amp volume Also, if using a foot pedal is changes patches quick and smooth, just like hitting an effect pedal during a song ? The effects , combinations , and ability to carry many amp options are fantastic , but I need to get to grips with a few functionality things to get the most out of this
