1. I'm 46 and every year I have a discovery that would seem like I've not been living on earth , and results in me listening to many albums for the first time that others would have worn out 20 years ago.
2. I have 5.5 basses , and a gig every one or two months , more in the summer
3. I heard on the radio he wanted to use jazz players to play rock , in the hope that something new would be created Also he wanted to be a jazz sax player on the early days Guess he took 40 gap years to play at being a world wide rock star
4.
The Clash were the last band to stand for something before Rage came along.
You clearly missed NKOTB then?
5.
For me with the Precision I still don`t understand why the pickup is nearer the bridge under the thinner strings - it would make so much more sense to me to have this the other way round, as per the Mark Hoppus Sig model, getting a bassier response from them.
My Rocco Prestia Precision has this, but somehow it still seems odd to me , I'm so used to my thumb resting on a std P pick up
6. He spoke about the effects etc that he used on this Album , so there is no reason to believe its not him?
7.
They have a point, especially RRW by UB40, the B&W Minstrels of today.
I don't think so , they where a very creative band in the beginning , and whilst they lost me later on , they genuinely seemed to enjoy commercialising some of those songs
8. He certainly nailed it live whatever the reasons for the studio alternates
9. BBC report says some fans are not happy because Lemmy said they played rock n roll not metal Guess this is the ultimate "are we metal" argument
10. It might be overplayed , the lyrics might be twaddle, but I'm not going to lie and say I dislike the Eagles , so I was out at the first hurdle
11.
It's the magic of Christmas!
ah, that's how Santa fits down also, always wondered about that
12. I write index cards with structures on, these may or may not contain chords , but I make it as simple as possible , verses , choruses, 1/2 verses, odd bars , breaks etc , I find then it's easy to see in my mind. For me the chords / lines are the easiest parts to remember , but the structure is the hardest
13. I don't understand how that got down the chimney
14. I brought a Yamaha BBN5 for the same reason , it's so good I've been gigging it
15. More Bad News, best comic strip ever , closely followed by Mr Jolly. Are we metal ?
16. Didn't expect this , a great talent Almost the same age as my stepmom when she got taken out of the blue
17.
And I'm never sure about this "I don't need the money, I have a job". Seems like a slap in the face for those of us doing this for a living. Blue
I would urge you not to take this so personally , perhaps see it like a guy who loves cabinet making in his garage at weekends , but doesn't do it as a professional during the week.
18. Thanks guys , I have a main gigging band, this would be a side project with no real goals in mind , apart from to produce some good music.
19. As in all things music, there's is no best, only taste or respect. Thought tribute band The Illigal Eagles where a very class act when I saw them.
20. I have played with various covers/functions bands over recent years, but all with the main focus being on the gigs I get to do, regardless of my numbness toward the material. Currently I am in an 80s tribute , I love the material , gigs are always a blast and we have good gigs booked in, but again its all about the gigs and want goes down well. I am thinking of forming something with the reverse intention, to get together and play material that doesn't really have an easy audience entry level, and focus on something that even if it did, we may not hit the mark (maybe folk or even obscure funk covers) . I have a good network of players I think I could find the right people, and know others that would be up for something like this. I don't think I have explained it well, but question is, has anyone done this, started up a project knowing it wont have an easy audience to target, but just for the music and fun of doing something different (different for those involved at least)
21.
I don't really want anyone 'noticing my tone'. I'd prefer they liked the band.
Was kind of said in jest
22. Maybe just be happy someone actually noticed your "tone" , doesn't happen every gig
23. Fender into a mark bass in a small gig environment usually has other bassists telling me it sounded awesome He might just love overdrive bass , we all have our preferences ? I'd go hear his band before you take his advise
24. Weren't Genisis all posh except for Phil Collins ? I remember around kids getting upset when they found out Puff Daddy was a graduate and business student, not from the ghetto. Most who make it in music and sport etc, with a few exceptions will be from good supportive backgrounds, be it working class or middle class, as it takes commitment and money to learn most things to a good level.
