1. Class or order of importance can exist in families when adoption, step children etc become part of it, so it sure as hell can exist in society. I grew up in the 80s and nobody I knew even considered they could opt to go to university, why didn't the adults / teachers inspire that thought in us ? Because we where the lowest and only destined to work in the mines, the factories, as infantry or if we where lucky learn a trade. Things are more complicated today I agree, the class system is all mixed up. Great line in a film, the Chinese gang leader said "You can't find any lads who want to kill people anymore, they all want to go to University"
2. Freddie Hubbard - straight life Miles Davis - kind of blue
3. Was going to buy a top of the range Scott Devine today , but I'm not going to now , I'll stick with my usuals
4. I have always instinctively picked out bass in music , it's that simple for me
5.
Music really isn't a competition between the bassist and the guitarist, or any other instrument. If it is then you are in the wrong band.
I agree with that , but in the spirit of the thread, playing bass is like being a centre back, you don't have to do anything flashy but you have to be solid and consistent, a guitarist can like a forward , blow hot and cold, take risks and still come out on top
6. You can hear the origin of Moondance in those clips.
7. Good luck with your project In jest, keyboard players won't have any forums as they already know everything , you might find some lurking as teachers/informers on other forums
8. Love him , was thinking of a clip to post, but there are too many great tracks.
9. Ive suggest this, to get a real gauge for what this thread is asking ... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274945-household-bassplayer-names-part-2-study/
10.
Did anyone read my OP?
this is basschat my friend Bass players are like the Men in Black , nobody knows what we do , but their lives would be different if we stopped
11. Kenny Rogers Holly Johnson But only because they became singers
12. The mark bass multi amp can nail the trace sound, best of both worlds at a touch of a button
13. The guy is amazing , makes everything look so easy, plays and sings contrasting things effortlessly, composes and writes original things, almost every Beatles release was different and inventive at the time.
14. This is so tempting , I have been gigging and lovely a BBN5 lately that I seem to be choosing above much more expensive basses.
15. We've collectively decided not to do one , everyone has family's and we don't fancy the comedown and pack up that night Best night of the year to be on the other side of the mix's imo Good luck to everyone who's gigging , not being negative , just my current situation , might change when the kids are older
16.
the Tedeschi Trucks Band
They are great, she is amazing !
17. De Le Soul Thought they where great, loved their studio work , but when I went it was like a couple of people talking whilst playing an old radio
18. Neil Young said something like "if I understood Modern music , they'd be something wrong with it" Might be a slight miss quote , but he understands each generation have to change things for themselves I seriously hate loads of types of music , but I understand those listening to it hear things that move them as I do with my own
19. Had a few nice guestures like that on here , and I've tried to pay them forward
20. Pitch black One in my multi amp A clip on
21. I think if Hendrix had lived he'd have been a bit like Neil Young or Ray Davis, followed his own path and not been to bothered if it pleased the masses or not. Sometimes experimenting with the current trends because he liked and leaving it alone when he didn't.
22. I'm not a reader , but have been the only non reader in a band and got by (as Bilbo says met expectation) with homework and chord charts. You seem to be in a similar position , and I would say if you have the inclination and the time to commit to learning I'm sure you will not regret it . A few years ago I started to learn but realised quickly I was not committed enough , I have other interests and other priorities and passions for my spare time. Even if I was to study for something now , there would be other subjects id put first. In hindsight I should have done it when I was younger , much like I should have learnt French. Both are ways of communicating which are useful and without limit us in certain situations. My advice would be make a call either way and stick with it.
23. You see an out of control Rave on the news and think "bloody kids"
24. I guess its all relevant to the overall length of the song in question , but I remember as a kid watching TOTP and thinking it was cool that Sugg's just stood still for ages before singing on Night Boat to Cairo, which is not something you often saw on a pop show https://youtu.be/ZMHCAfPZPf0
