Ive been using markbass for a number of years now , but I did have a TC rig around 2009 , both are fantastic, you cant really go wrong with either IMO

I love the 80s and my 80s band , but simply red doesn't do it for me Talented guy for sure, but him and Elton John are in the same box in my head , don't really know why.
-
Congrats on your purchase Only heard good things about basscollection quality , will it have the big logo ?
-
I love mine, I didn't use to, but over the last year I started using it even at smaller gigs, and pubs. Even in small area, being wire free and swapping spots with guitarist etc livens things up Even joined in a Conga with it once.
We do a cover of The Trooper by Iron Maiden and a bit of fast fret down on the plucking area of the strings makes getting those speedy triplets much easier
Always thought that would be a fun song to gig, but never had the chance. Flats sound and feel great , unfortunate that they dont work for my 80s band or id use them all the time

Good luck to them, hope they enjoy it and make enough to pay a few bills

I agree with Chris above, there are no rules only opinions , ideally you would get 2 songs down well enough to not need a music stand, but there is no law against one if you really need it. Sounds like the main thing you need to sort out is your confidence to remember a song, I write out structures on cards which helps me . Nothing to do with notes , just bar count the parts , see how the song repeats sections and where the odd rests or 1/2 or double verses / choruses are etc. Once it's written on it seems much less complicated Good luck , do your homework then go out and enjoy
I've had to be rebuked by the leader (and she was right to do so). and also work on my humility too
This kind of stuff makes me cringe, I'm sure your doing your best without them having to attack your character.
Personally, pubs aren't worth it but that doesn't mean I don't do a few that I feel work.
That is exactly my approach
Options and price, mainly. And the build quality is up there with the top-end MIA / CS stuff.
Great, I'm going to check them out

Every time a pino comes up for sale , there's a que of basschaters wanting to spend a few grand , they don't hang around long

If it's true that there are not enough good bands on a given circuit , then the door is wide open to those with a good product If there where not enough good firms providing a good service in my industry , I'd be smiling not moaning
Maruszczyk. Building Fenders that Fender should be building, but better quality and for less money. They should be very afraid.
Whats better, id like to hear your take on it ?
-
I have non fender basses which are wonderful , but nothing feels quite as comfy as my Fenders, I have no idea why, might just be the amount of time Ive spent playing Fenders is hard to undo. You need to try a Japanese one, ive got 3 and love them all.
"if you're going to play in a worship group, do it for spiritual reasons rather than musical ones, otherwise you'll be conflicted".
Conflicted how ? I played in a band who where playing full band "hillsong" type music , I was asked to play and don't consider myself a Christian , so it would not be possible for me to be doing it for spiritual reasons (at least christian based ones) Having said that, I did enjoy some thought provoking sermons during my time playing with them.

I think I am in the perfect band for me right now, its made up of people with similar desires. Which is to be in a band worthy of any function , but without the schedule of gigs that goes with a full on functions band. We have turned down more gigs than we have played recently due to dairy clashes. But it is nice to get offered weddings and functions by people who see us play , it means we are doing something right. We charge a decent amount and will only do certain pubs where a full on party gig is likely to occur, as this is more important to us than the actual money. I've done the well paid to play the run of the mill wedding sets and spend hours hanging around, but its not something I want right now, my day job is going well and I like seeing my family and have other interests, a gig has to be about more than the fee for me, or I would give up. I wish people who do low end gigging would not moan about weekend players, its like tradesmen moaning about polish workers, all industries have their competition and issues. You have to focus on your service, and if you cant make it work then you have to move into something else or change your plan. People are not going to step out of your way just because you feel more worthy or skilled than them.
No need to spend out on stuff you don't need!
We don't need that sort of attitude on here please -- Ive owed TC gear, and the rig you have is fantastic and portable. Im more of a markbass fan, but theres not much in it.

I recently paid £ 520 for a Jap jazz bass with matching headstock, well set up and very playable but with dings. Slightly more than I would have hoped to pay, but it was exactly the colour scheme and neck board and profile I wanted.
It probably does, although also probably quite a faulty process.
Of course, but don't think anyone does anything good or bad without first justifying it to themselves
-
Everyone justifies the purchase of something before they buy it, unless they have some kind of habitual purchasing habit.
Even if its an out of control habit, and a completely mad purchase, like a potless parent spending money a on a jolly or holiday, their mind must still go through the process of justification.
-
If your not a pro, but do weekend functions for a reasonable fee, along with the odd pub, then here is a formula to show you want you should spend on gear based on guidelines found on the gov.org site. A = Your age B = Average size of functions and pub audience over a year A x B = the amount your collection of usable gear is allowed to cost

Found the music tiring , but I do get want you mean when it's nice to discover something new that hits your personal spot.
