1. Its actually quite scary, you don't need anything but campaign funds and the ability to get people to vote for you, and KW is loaded and popular.
2.
I don't know for absolute certain but I'm going to go with the latter option of the interviewer probably not being a musician.
The % chance of you being right is high id guess, but just incase I'll start a list of known Dentist / Musicians .... Tidu Mankoo - Dentist and wonderful guitar player who I had the pleasure of playing with a number of times.
3.
It's actually making me feel sick posting this....but... 'Sunshine Of Your Love'.
I think there are a lot of gigging middle aged self taught musicians who's first knowledge of playing came through playing riffs like that.
4. I hope the interview goes well for the OP I went to an audition last week for a covers band, when the singer opened his mouth I reached in with some pliers and pulled one of his teeth. I'm waiting to hear from them how I did.
5. Im I the only one who is slightly worried that this is connected to being a dentist, I mean next time you go to see a dentist it could be they got the practice because they did naked backflips at the interview
6. Do you know who the interviewer will be ? Maybe you can google them, their social media may give away what genre they like.
7. I love Duran Duran , and from what live footage i've seen over recent years, they are one of those bands who are better now than in their day.
8.
We've been offered a NYE gig at what I would consider an unreasonably low fee. It's difficult to explain to the band that it's not good on principle to accept less and less for gigs, not through over-inflated ego, but because it denigrates the whole business and gives people the impression that musicians don't need to get paid much. I know this is an old argument, but what bugs me further, is that we're often given the bonus of '...and free drinks.' For the heavy drinkers in the band, this could amount to an extra £30 - £40 quid's worth, each. For the non-drinkers, it's worthless. Saying anything makes me feel churlish. Thoughts?
I think you should air your views and feelings, assuming your band is meant to be fun for you then your feelings are relevant, and if you enter into an agreement you are not happy with it will only come back to haunt you. I also think it is fair to say to the landlord, please don't give us anymore than a few free drinks during set up / clear up, instead please pay us and we will buy additional drinks if we wish. However I have no view on the fee, you just need to be happy, I personally would not play new years eve to the public unless I was seriously well paid, but if someone is really up for the party and wants to play for pennies, then fair enough, enjoy. Main thing is honour your agreements, just be careful what they are.
9. I joined a new formed pub gigging band when I first got back into playing, the purchase of a PA was discussed and I agreed to chip in, the drummer flatly refused and said "I spend out on drums, the singer should buy a vocal PA" Whilst its not the norm for singers to do this, I now tend to agree when you are only talking about a PA that isnt to run the whole band through.
10. Why does it always rain on me? Is it because I lied when I was 17? No, its because your in Scotland
11. And guess who was with him? Yeah, but he's bigger than me. In't he? Yeah but Barry's a mate of Gordon's in'e?
12. Mainly I use 2nd hand basses , and I like them to have a few dings in when I get them so I don't have to worry. As long as everything is working fine I tend not to clean anything that doesn't need it. I've one immaculate P bass and Im not comfortable using it.
13. If I get labeled as Solid in any aspect of life id take it, be it bass playing, sport, or relationship. Its only guitarist and singers who want more and will never get enough of it.
14.
What's a hollies forum ?
It's where people debate Nash vs the post Nash period , at least thats my guess
15. If he is a poser, he's quite good at it
16.
give me time to breathe
Creep, Radiohead
17.
I know one of them was in Crosby Stills and Nash. Thats all my Hollies knowledge. Oh, And they were named after a 50's bloke who played a Fender Strat and wore glasses.
Hank Marvin ?
18. Blue, thought Id share this pic with you, its the local crossing where I live in the UK, think it was around 2009
19. My wife isn't really into music at all, will always choose to read or watch tv over listening, but after 17 years of marriage she decided to opt to sing our annual music night for the first time (in house karaoke with a band, semi pre planned) and blew everyone away with no practice. I had no idea, not sure she did either.
20. There should be a universal system of signals for sound engineering , much like the aircraft paddle thing
21.
I'm not a Lenny fan. He's nothing more than a poser. Blue
First album was amazing imo , after that its not really done anything for me. Did my time playing "are you gonna ..." just like every other must do cover such as "sex on fire" etc, but thankfully I'm now in a band that avoids these things, I wont knock them though
22.
God this is tempting, the first gig is tonight!!!!
If it's that close to the wire I want to see the first gig
23. I use 2 x 8phm 210s (front ported) , this makes a very portable 410 , and gives the option of just a 210 also
