1. My Yamaha BB feels like to should cost £ 600
2. Ive just increased my effects to cover a wide range of the 80s sounds Im trying to emulate, but effectively it remains the same as it has for a number of years ... P bass into Mark bass head & Mark Bass Cabs (2 x 210)
3. Oh that's nasty , sorry to hear this, can't offer any help other than try not to let it eat you up too much
4. We need a competition , best spoof demo !
5.
Yes, there exists some ridiculous post-punk stuff from 1979 which found its way onto YouTube. So this is how the 19-year-old me played bass. I like to think I've improved since then...
Quite like that
6. Review looks great , thanks for putting the effort in. I'll digest it later as at gathering right now
7. Thanks, wonder where all the amps are that didn't sell, no stock at any of the stores I'd go to. Bass direct, Andertons etc Seriously considering one of these, as I'm going to sell my pedals and go for a multi effects unit. So I could tie this in with upgrading my mark bass head
8.
I auditioned one of these at the LBG Show and am now kicking myself for not pulled the trigger. The show price was only £ 700 but I walked away.
Who was doing this deal mark bass or a dealer?
9. Workingmans got loads of interesting variations in it already, and swinging door needs just to be solid, with those passing notes as others have said. My advice as someone who knows no theory is learn the basic bass pattern and the structure of the song, once you've done that that listen to some of the variations and learn those if possible , but don't attempt to add anything that's not already there ( unless the brief for whole band is to do it differently ). Groove is always talked about with soul and funk, but I think this type of music whilst simple enough, can be ruined easily by over playing and losing time, it's all about the groove on root and 5th Good luck, they are great songs
10.
I suggested "The Trooper" a while back- it caused one of the guitarists to have a bit of a dizzy spell. I think he had to go for a bit of a lie down.
Id love to gig that song
11. Could this actually work against the magazine? I know I'm less likely to buy that sort of thing with my involvement here , so readers could discover this site then not rely on the magazine as much for thier bass hit.
12. If you want to sell something it's part of the cost , it might be a friendly community but you are not giving something away. I agree a "thanks for info but it's not for me" is nice and I'd always attempt to do so, but I don't think it's a crime if you forget. Of course if you feel someone is asking to many questions you have to decide who's worth entertaining, just like any business transaction.
13.
I can't see that some simple [Amp] [Cab] [Combo] tags would make things that much messier.
Solution ^ And when a Rig gets the head sold separately it can be edited to "Cabs"
14.
then learnt the 'proper' bass line eventually, did anybody notice? did they f***
Makes you feel good though doesn't it
15.
It's going to be a mammoth task to wade through all the puns to make a column, regardless of anything else
Nothing wrong with some old school hard grafted journalism
16. Ive got some headlines based on the reality of the BassChat world ... People have been seriously injured as a crowd rushed for the exit just before the start of Paul Carrack gig, a witness known as FleaBop84 to his online friends said "someone in a basschat Tshirt stood up, pointed and shouted "Music Stand"" then it turned into chaos. Bassplayers worldwide are in mass mourning, in tweets and online forums they are expressing mass grief and disappointment, the scale of it is similar to that of the recent departure of Zayn Malik from 1D, but this time it was due to bass god Pino Palladino openly admitting he used a form of tablature to learn his first few songs as a teenager.
17. I guess you could take each song requested and apply one of the following if you cant do it correctly straight away .... 1. If it can be simplified without ruining the song (I often here bands omit bass parts in songs like Rio, Town called malice etc. It gives me the hump, but not sure many other people care or notice). Then do it 2. If you think you need time, say OK I can nail this, but I need time before trying it out with the band 3. If you think its something you cant do in the near future then reject it, saying you cant do it justice right now, its good to try hard, but you must have standards for gigs
18. Firstly I'm guessing Bluejay is a sensible person Secondly I'm guessing the BC heads are informed and will agree to whatever it is Bluejay is going to do Fourthly therefore we should wait and see what happens before being to cynical Someone think of a thirdly please
19. This thread needs a bump , even if it's just to tempt a reaction out of Bilbo
20. I was trying to learn the pino nod going the other night
21.
Compliments are nice however I take them with a grain of salt. I know when I'm having a good night and I know when I have a bad one too. Blue
This is also true , in the covers band world the enjoyment or lack of by the punters isn't always inline with the quality of the band. I remember offending a singer after a really good function by saying they'd have danced to anything that lot
22. Basically any comment made to any member of the band is a reflection of the bassists ability to groove and get people to enjoy the trimmings on top of that groove.
23. I get similar comments sometime but your only going to get them from people who know music , the average dancing punter only sees the singer and soloists Still , we are in it to make everyone else sound good eh ?
