1. I've just read this whole thread in an attempt to talk myself into coming , it hasn't worked , Ive also got a budget for a new bass I'm considering (after always saying I'd only buy second hand for years) Not being negative , just feeding back my impressions of the show from here are limited stands, with lots of people slapping everywhere
2. This might be obvious but when playing any bass solo at home it rarely sounds good with anything but tone off I've always found my P basses have a lovely tone through headphones , and my practice ones are fairly cheap
3.
Try asking Koigon, he's the man for that info
Got 3 of his looms and pots , no point in buggering around with anything else if your wiring and pots need sorting
4.
Living in Broadstairs, we have the annual Folk Week which invades every single pub / hall / club, so live music (and it's ability to ring the tills) remains front of mind for landlords. It's a relatively small high st, but at least 3-4 pubs have live bands both Fri / Sat.
Went there many years running , usually found the one or 2 bands I liked and followed them around, the kids also loved the precession (clarence).
5.
Great thread, congrats to the OP.
Yep Is it now down the the OP to compile the list , picking only the first one of anyone who picked multiple choices ?
6.
Déjà Vu by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Every track a winner.
I love CSN , particularly Stills, but I struggle with the track "teach your children" as David Crosby gave away his son, I know it was written by Nash.
7. Here's a thought, perhaps we should bill the singers for 5 string purchase if they can't sing it in the record key
8.
I was in a band that decided it would be amusing for a bunch of blokes in their 40s to play an "Ironic" version of Like a Virgin. This horror was in the set for about 6 months before the "joke" wore thin. The band split up about 15 years ago but I still cringe whenever I hear it.
Ha, this is on a set list for a new 80s functions band we've got going, although we have a female lead who can pull it off .
9. I've spotify so I'll start getting through some of these Something different , but I love this ... Robin of Sherwood - Clannad Needs to be played when your relaxing
10.
There are still bands out there who think Mustang Sally is cool and fun!
It's a long time since I played it but I bet there's still crowds at functions who love it Think I'd rather play mustang than 500 miles , but it's all so subjective
11.
Cant Get You Outta my Head - Kylie Lyin Eyes - The Eagles
First song is a crowd pleaser in the right setting and the second , if you can nail it vocally it is a beautiful song I don't like having to play 500 miles , daydream believer , that kind of stuff but will do so if we are being paid to do so (as long as I love 3/4 of the set I consider myself lucky to be gigging and having fun)
12. I wouldn't be a band where I didn't love say 3/4 of the songs , but I would say that once you've learnt and gigged a song a few times most of them won't be something I'd listen to for pleasure anymore I've leArnt not to suggest your all time favs for band songs
13.
Next week we are playing a social club which has a small stage only 2 feet off the ground and we won't all fit on it! So I'll be less relaxed about my kit then
I love these kind of gigs, gives you your own defined slightly raised space, but allows for an imitate atmosphere still, which beats a pub setting or a functions hall with a stage that's way too high stage I don't play many larger gigs where your using in house or festival pa , but when I do I've learned to dig the experience and the tone onstage , but don't go to the front of stage to get an idea of your out front sound, it can ruin your night
14. You missed New neighbours have moved into the square next to a pub that's been there for a few hundred years and playing amplified music since it was invented , have complained so much the nights logistics are getting harder Landlord had to install double glazing , a porch, change end times , and no outside music in the summer Even a pa singing gig on an early sat eve to a packed garden attrActed phone calls from the said neighbor , landlord asked the singer to go inside , but the sun was to hot for the punters to want to follow
15. Just brought a second hand BBN5 , it feels like a bass way above it's price tag
16. If you've played your gig and nailed your parts, no bassist who could do the same would take issue , surely ? You've a duty to produce bass lines , how you do it is up to you and your band
17. I've just brought a budget 5 string in order to get over similar issues , one band everything is always as the record and can be done on a 4 string, the other has songs in akward keys and requires D tuning etc Some songs require no thought , others need a complete re think, I think I'll have it all sorted in a few evenings but giging with confidence on it might take a while Have no idea what I'll end up settling on yet
18. As above If you can tell a landlord you will bring a crowd thats a good way to get booked , and if you do they should pay you 2x45 should be ok, don't play too much fillers that aren't up to your best standard Good luck
19. Its pretty such a subjectively voted for prize, isn't it ? So I guess its there to be argued with if it doesn't go your way, but his actions are the same as a mum getting the hump because her daughter didn't score high enough in a dance competition.
20. As above , can't you manage both for a bit longer and let time tell? Be honest with both re first in the dairy gets your commitment though Good luck
21. Seller has made his stance clear, as to his reasons we can't judge, so if he doesn't accept your alternative suggestions then it's almost like a haggle (which is not about the price tag) you'll either not do a deal or one of you will eventually except the others offer (method) I'd guess if you can buy a new one for a 1/3 more than his item is on the high price for something like electrical goods which is a risk out of warranty If your not desperate state your offer and method , and wait for him to possible except If your desperate for this deal, do it his way -- As others have said don't take it personally , his mistrust of transfers is a different issue.p I had a tradesman who for well over a year wouldn't trust transfers, he'd rather have a cheque and spend his time going to the bank to pay it in , he trusted me , but not Internet banking, and nothing but time could change his view
22. Last time we spoke you where struggling to rehearse, and writing, so this is an amazing achievement, good luck with it all
23. There is already enough knowledge on basschat to last me the rest of my life , experienced players , theory , practice , bass maintence , gear tech and do on, should I seek it (which sometimes I don't) Of course it would be lovely to hear the thoughts and story's of named players , but I don't think it would make a lot of difference to what I get from here, or more to the point could get from here if I asked.
