1. I reckon the blues brothers had the lyrics taped to the inside of their sunglasses
2. Technical side aside, I think the production during a certain period was incredible including the 80s , almost like every minor piece of percussion or bass ghost note sat exactly right and not clashing with anything else, and was meant to be there. This is the opinion of a consumer not a pro. A bit before the 80s but like this ...
3.
A Jazz Bassist walks four in a bar.
Because the sheet on his stand told him so
4. You can't worry about marginalizing the current guitarist as he is to busy to keep up, but you must be honest with all involved. Best get on it now if you want to find a dep
5.
Ten pages!! Can we stop now, please??
No
6. Here's a picture of me doing a gig with Smokey Robinson , unfortunately it was difficult to see around the stand from where his pic was taken
7. I'm not a pro, don't know theory and have a limited skill set, but sometimes get paid quite well for playing covers whilst people dance and enjoy themselves , this seems to piss off some pros.
8.
So that's when people say to themselves: 'Ah proper musicians with music stands, I think I'll stay.'
But how would you know, they might stare at them just to trick you ?
9.
I've played gigs where we all had black music stands with the band name on it because that's the image the band leader wanted. I had no music on it though!
That kinda turns the thread around a little
10. Loved my early days , learning Hendrix , Doors , Iron butterfly songs and jamming with mates Still I'm no more than a beginner as I have no theory , just many years experience playing covers at functions
11. A well rehearsed product, I'm sure it was amazing live, I don't like all the yo yo come on gee up vocals though Next year your company can save £5000 and we will get everyone dancing the stage and sound might be a bit emptier mind
12. I'll have them please I'll pm details later as can't start pms from my phone for some reason (though if you pm me I can reply)
13.
This thread just triggers a recurring line of thought for me- musicians are one of the biggest causes of the slow death of live music, principally due to volume.
You might have something there
14. Not been asked to play this yet, first time I've actually listened to the lyrics, reminds me of Mercy and Upside Down which we played to death.
15. Planet Earth Just cant seem to play it all the way through without losing the feel at some point, its bloody annoying, as everything else I do suggests this should not be a problem.
16. We are going to a pub gig around Feb to run through a new 80s themed set we are working on, we will fill the pub with minimal promotion so the landlord is always keen to book us for this type of thing. Therefore everyone wins. The pub goers get some good entertainment (even if I say so myself, last time we did this it was a blast) , the landlord sells a shed load of beer, we get some expenses in the band account, and get a no pressure run through for a new set. Problem is, I think the singer may still be using some sheets and therefore a stand for some of the songs, so should I cancel it ?
17.
The classic guitarist saying. And in defence, higher wattage amps don`t sound as good when not pushed.
Mate, who's side you here As others have said classic guitarist approach
18. What if you use a wireless ? Edit Just checked on the box it states this model emulates black cables, I googled it and their is an American cap on YouTube that shows you how to do an easy internal mod to make it emulate other colored cables, whilst eating a sandwich.
19. I dont get this thread, is it that the OP doesn't like Mark Bass gear?
20.
I'm thinking mahogany for a nice warm tone, but painted black to preserve the high-end.
Good choice, this is the only type of stand I can put up with , any other type I would leave and go elsewhere
21. If you had 2 basses, same spec except one with a maple neck and one with rosewood neck and you swapped the necks they would sound different , but if you swapped the bodies there would be no change in sound
22. A friends band where playing nearby on new years eve and have pulled out due to the not being able to get a dep drummer, the pub have booked another band already and I think we will still go. However after reading this thread I am going to email to band from the Facebook page and the venue in order to confirm if any music stands are going to be used, in which case I will change my plans and go somewhere else in an effort to avoid them.
23. Get up Stand up, Stand up for your rights
24.
Quite so, but if you compare them visually the TH looks like a fifties retro space-ship console... and the GK looks like a car radio. But that's irrelevant, isn't it? No-one on this forum listens with their eyes, do they??!! Oh, no.
If it was we would all be binning our mark bass amps
