1. If your being paid then you have a duty to ensure you are doing your best to provide the service you are selling, I think a spare bass at a function is realistic thing to take.
2. 2nd hand gear is not always gonna fetch a good price, his costing might be correct , though his keeping of chosen parts leaving you having to make sales seems unfair Going legal might give you more headaches and upset than it's worth, might be worth walking away and getting on with something new and positive. Having said that if you think he's being a knob and you want to put pressure on him, then around £60 to start a small claim against him might be worth it (he'll have to responed and make a case)
3. There are of course situations and performances where you want everything polished and fully rehearsed to show standard with no stands in sight, but there are plenty of situations where this cannot be, and there are plenty of examples of seasoned professionals doing in both situations. What I don't get is people making blanket rules for others I've done plenty of gigs with fantastic singers who use a stand (generally set quite low and just for the odd prompt) , along with aweful gigs with no stand in sight . When I dep I use index cards with structure prompts of required , I clip them onto my Hercules stand, not sure a singer could get anyway with something that small
4. Really looking fwd to this , hope it's a bit more than a collection of clips I've already watched on you tube though. Remember when I started learning bass I had a book , Clinton or Bootsy said "funk, simple , either you play a note or you don't"
5.
Drop it into the shop please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And can I have a lend?
Will do, and as soon as its together , you can trial it at a gig
6.
Hi, Would you split? Interested in the Shadows of Motown.
Same
7. Its better to play with a dodgy singer than a dodgy drummer
8. Only 2 things matter if your being paid to do the gig 1. Do the clients want it to happen, clearly yes in this case 2. Can the band play it or as in this case , busk it to a good enough standard. I am now dreaming of Chesney Hawkes being at the next hotel I gig at, that would be fun (im not kidding either)
9. I think Lionel Ritchie and band will have far more chance of getting on my TV than many Glasto acts, I like him. I have enjoyed some of it over the last few years, Goat, CSN, Wolf Alice , to name a few
10. Most of the covers I love, are of songs I like so much its hard to say they are better, just an awesome song to start with made different, in a fantastic way .. Absolutely amazing cover .. Completely different to the originals , and played really straight , but I do love these .. I've also just read the bass section words, and for someone to write and explain things so clearly and logically they must have had so much to offer , really sad.
12. I agree with the above Plus the longer you keep the amp the more chance if it getting dinged or having issues whilst you are responsible for it
13. 1. 25 + years 2. Yes, korg pitchblack 3. Tuner and ear 4. Floor tuner, or by knowing one string is correct then harmonics 5. Yes 6. 7. Nothing about mine, though I did use one live once that I wasn't used to and didnt notice one string was flat on the display 8. Not sure if I know the "correct" way but I can do it 9. my pitch-black floor pedal
14. Plenty of solo singers + 1 instrument don't do it for me, and often I cant see a song out, especially when its a bass on its own, but this does it for me, love it.
15. When is this being shown , or is it on catch up , anyone know ?
16. My first bass was built and discarded to me by a friends older brother, it was a hammerite painted piece of ply with screws for pick ups, a piece of planned timber for a fretless neck, amazing it player Iron Butterfly and Hendrix lines quite well, and got nicknamed the fuzzy bass. My first real bass was a cheap "rockson" brand, I thought it was better than the hand built but it wasnt I cant remember what happened to it , and I so wish I could see it again.
17.
How did you get on at the weekend?
Thanks for asking Family stuff got in the way , have no time this weekend, but an easier week at work next week, so I hope to find time to route out the pickup during next week, once thats done I can assemble and set up during the evenings
18. Its a fair enough question that should be very easy to answer, if not by the person you ask then at least by someone they can
19. This thread pretty much sums up basschat I'm glad your happy and bold with , keep it up
20.
Personally I take my hat off to him, he has kinda of earned his celeb status. (all in my humble opinion of course).
Yep he has, from a keyboard player in a pop band to a permanent presenter with many side projects, he is a hugely successful chap, cant really knock it can you (although sometimes I might)
