1. These are my thoughts which may or may not apply Options in order you put them 1. If its the sort of thing you really want to play and you are not worried about gigging soon then go for it 2. sounds like its not really your thing, if you want to play originals find something that floats your boat as it will quickly become tiresome if your not into the style 3. if you just want to gig and have fun, this is your option, but could you not combine this with either 1 & 2 above until its clear which route to take ?
2. You might find it comes alive when you play it with a band
3. USA precision neck and tuners Shell pink body (unknown origin) , need to route in the J pup Wizard pickups KiOgon wiring loom, with stacked pots vol/tone just need the neck plate and screws and some strings any thoughts or feedback would be welcome , hope to have this together and set up at the weekend
4.
Can that man just not play a bass normally.
Gets my vote for BC comment of the year
5. I think the hardest thing about playing covers is not the lines themselves, it's remembering the structures of the songs confindenlty enough to really be on it.
6. What you need is a bass with a J bridge pup before a MM pup then a P pup then a J bridge pup, then 5 minutes between each song to dial in the right sound for the number coming up.
7. Its a funny old one with the pub gigs, the last pub gig I did a month ago, we got £220, but id have done the gig for free as it was a laugh, and I only do pub gigs that are for a special reason (such as for an event, or with a deps with a band or friends I enjoy playing with, to try out a functions set etc) If your in pubs for the money, then I think you'll always be disappointed and negative, because they cant pay what the efforts worth if its seen as work. Also most bands aren't worth the money, doesn't matter if your level 42, if you don't bring a crowd or the pub cant draw in people your gigs, its not worth the money to the landlord, and thats understandable. Im very grateful that most gigs pay enough to cover expenses or a meal out or trip to the cinema for the kids the next day (if I lose a family saturday night), but I am certainly not doing this for the money, its a fun hobby, just like playing football. That doesn't mean that we play functions for free , its just that its not fundamentally a business.
8.
If you play either in a pub band, the audience wouldn't really be able to tell which one without looking.
Not sure most of us would in most mixes easily either
9.
But it has to hit 88mph first! Maybe that should be 88bpm?
Constant for minute, that will the challenge
10.
Pretty good one there Alex.
+1 , just when I thought nothing new could be said
11.
Hmm, yes please Cheers for the heads up!
Your welcome buddy I actually emailed to reserve this not long after I started this thread , but you got in there before he pulled it off the site
12. Someone buy this before I do, these seem to go for this privately so seems a good deal from a dealer http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Precision_Highway_One.html
13. Sounds like the perfect gig for Colin Grigson http://youtu.be/W5YJKuKT3jo
14. Do you think the last bass player wanted to play dance ? Why state we are 80s metal then say we are not interested in playing dance music ? Never seen an ad for a disco / soul band say we aren't metal
15. I guess if your a badass , like metal and having a blast it's a great ad Im not a bad ass, never played anything heavier than classic rock and am boring, so it's not for me.
16. If there was only one bass and one amp with one spec on the market , I'm pretty sure all players would still develop to the level we have , mark king, Jameson, jaco, Lemmy etc would still lead their particular style and I'd still be a chippy who plays in function bands Same could be said for football boots , golf clubs and Bmx bikes
17.
Nobody wants my Joe Osborn 5 USA Lakland?
I want it badly, just the price tag, but I'm sure it's worth it, have a bump
18.
Yes, a few have joined and then get so much 'stick' that they think it isn't worth the bother... And after seeing what happened to a couple in print, I can't say I blame them.
I didn't witness this but it seems a shame
19. I fit all the criteria , first job I've seen where thats true since 1985
20.
The thing that gets me is, as I understand it, your pub gigs are not 4 hours with two 15 minute breaks nights like ours. We are doing a Legion Hall thing this weekend, so we get a break. It's a 7-10 deal. Blue
Then they are very different indeed and your bar gigs require a lot more effort in prior song knowledge . Whilst there are some good bands that play pubs here (all be it occasionally) most pub bands would struggle for decent material beyond 2x45 , and many pad out that with poor quality songs or unrehearsed badly played standards.
21.
what is the one song
Sorry impossible, your Sade song is a great one though
22. For me , groove can be straight as can be ... or something like this (edit) .... http://youtu.be/MnOVbMFiGVg or even played on a guitar Then theres all the great cool funky stuff
23.
By bar gigging do you mean a weekend pub covers gig lasting a good few hours?
Yep bar gigs translated = pub gigs I wouldn't want to pub gig every weekend (although I have done) but do enjoy a dep, a one off (test out a new set) or a pub booking with a reason (pub or private function) I enjoy a party atmosphere, so gigging for me is all about fun, if I get a musical kick out of most the set as well then happy days.
