1.
Did you not get on with the Stingray then?
Swapped it for some Mark Bass cabs , but yes, Id buy another if one came up locally again. You still on the P?
2. I've not read everything but are they going to do any 5s?
3. I check a few times a day as I'm gauging some sales I might make and am on the look out for a purchase I think it's fairly varied across the board right now
4.
Exactly lojo, it`s clear you need a third
That might happen yet
Two ponies doing the same one trick ?
Nah, they cover the whole circus act
5. Darn you Dave, why do you have to live so close, its tempting Anyone interested, Lowregisterhead is a top fella to deal with.
6. I think the answer is yes, but the problem is there are too many influences over many styles, so I want a "fender jazz precision stingray fretted fretless rick" fitted with round wound flats Add to this I could afford even a basic 2nd hand bass until I started working , so I just brought the cheapest 2nd hand bass in the paper ads, a Rockson 2 it was called. In my 40s now and slowly getting through all the basses I dreamed of
7. Its always a risk these guys often play knock and run. Hope it was something you where desperate for today
8. This was an interesting read as I'm now looking for a 5 string that will hopefully become a first choice bass. Also learned some new bass terminology, never heard a bass being referred to as "polite" before
9. Ive got 2 fender P basses, whats the point in that ?
10. Sorry tried but gave up, I didn't seem to fit into it and had trouble working out what to tick, didn't help that it won't display well on my iphone
11. I remember hearing Roger Daltrey defend Mcfly a few years back, saying something like the Who where a teeny bopper band when they started. He had it in for Disco, and now 1D, but as Mick Jagger said, theres always been pretty boys with nice haircuts, its not new, just perhaps more dominant that it was, the charts used to be vary varied. Just for the record, I like McFly
12.
Obviously, there is good and bad practice but, with mobile phones etc, no-one should be left hanging around for hours not knowing what is what.
Thats a good point, I know things crop up , people run late etc, but there is not many excuses to date not to keep everyone informed, even at the last minute
13. I dont agree you get what you pay for, in my line, there are firms who charge 3 times the amount I do and still produce a bad job, however there are also companies doing it for such low costs that its impossible to do a good job. I say you get who you pay for , more focus on choosing the right provider for a service than the cost involved What did I miss, whats your reason for visiting these companies ?
14. I met the old owner of the Half Moon the other night and discussed this subject, its pretty much dead, at least here in the SW corner of the M25 There seems to be a bit of a scene in Sussex, an band I used to play with are booked up with gigs over that way as they say its worth it. I went to see a band locally in a Music venue last weekend, pub with room/stage round back, there was no one there, and as someone said, even if people aren't there for the particular band, there was no one in the pub either on a saturday night.
15. Do you like Moondance ? If Yes then you are not a music snob If No then you are a music snob
16. I think everyone is to a certain extent.
17. I'd like to see Andy Bell lead something or team up with Mark Gardener again.
18. Sad, like I'm sure many others my age, some of his baselines where the first I learned.
19. This might have something to do with how I feel comfortable with some drummers, and can play the same song with other drummers that you cant find fault with, but I feel less comfortable, might be down to the minutest feel of the relaxed or pushed approach to a song. I can never quantify this feeling but I get it with various drummers.
20. HIs voice was never the part of his makeup that was ever questioned as far as know
21.
Aye, if they use the power stage as an effect (i.e. they need the sound of it at 75% max output or more) then they need either a range of amps (say 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 Watts) or a power soaker upper (one of these: https://en.wikipedia...or_%28guitar%29) No excuse for not being able to match stage volumes and get the group sounding as good as possible. If they need to lose tone - so be it, as long as the band sounds decent.
Come on , we really don't need bass players justifying this
22. I defence of loud guitarists , valve amps don't sound good below 2 or 3 on the dial, at least so I'm told. Edit - I want the pick guard in the OP
23.
The previous bassist in my band played the same part for the choruses and verses for Blondie's One Way Or Another, hence the 'previous'
There's no excuse for this if you've advanced notice that your playing a blondie or similar song. Even if you don't have the ability to work out the parts by ear , there are plenty of chord charts/tabs etc all over the internet and in 10mins you can run through and check for any omissions or mistakes Having said that blondie songs aren't always as straight structurally as most pop songs , until she wrote Maria at least Answer to the thread title is "Good" , and obviously the more skills you have behind it the better
24. After everything said above, ears / reading skills etc are all great tools which help and open doors, but the only thing that really counts if you are playing in situations you are happy with, is the performance on the actual songs you play.
25. I have a p bass which I consider right, but I'm forever swapping rounds to flats around
