1. Anyone fancy posting some clips of good live synth bass work ?
2. Why buy a new P bass when there are always good ones being offered 2nd hand on here Personally I both stingrays and P basses, but whist the tone does vary, I doubt there would be many situations where either or would be a bad choice.
3. I'm definately in the "great skills man, but that's not what a bass is for" camp I can admire it, but don't want to lie back chill and listen to it
4. I'm considering selling a bass that is a bit special, I'll most likely state id not take less than I believe it's worth to me, if it does not sell I'll stick it under the bed for 20 years. An approach I wish is took with my VW camper So if a poster states final price drop I'm guessing that's exactly that, they'd rather keep it than take less , can't see a problem in that, just an honest up front stance.
5. Plenty of kids playing music, but there is a big difference between a kid who goes a tutor and goes through the motions to a kid who's so into playing that they have to be dragged off of it to have a bath and eat.
6. That's going to mean at least 10000 more "jazz or P?" Threads coming
7. Well done, its meant to be fun so your right to get out if that is not how it is for you anymore, but you are also right to give them notice and help hand over to a replacement. Happy future to you
8.
If a school offers a session on budgeting, it won't make much difference if the parents are gambling addicts
I agree that if you have a bad home life , a few £ per head budget for music and every student having to hold an in instrument for 30 mins a week so the school ticks a box won't make much difference. Although there will be 1 or 2 who will get inspired where they may not have had a chance. Id say, firstly make sure there is a school place for all the kids where they have a chance of getting good maths and english results, and that is way off being the case in this country at the moment.
9. Best sound (volume balance wise) ever heard in a bar was electric drums and bass/guitar all straight into a pa after effects, no amps or loud acoustic drum equipment. Worked well for the disco/pop band in question
10. Unpunk ? You'd never play TOTPs then ? Re the question, I'd guess an acrylic spray gently applied whilst the speakers where being driven might do no harm (structurally not sure about tone) but I'd not promise it. Surely a back cloth behind the grill is the way to go.
11. Ideally this every time ... Songs agreed (by clients or new choices by band etc) Everyone does homework on parts and structures, singers work out harmonies etc in someones house Bass and Drums get added in a run through (not a chord and structure figure out session) Anything else I don't have time for
12. Of course someone who plays guitar might also be a very good bass player (or not) , but it seems the issue in the OP is more about the guitarists having the character of someone who you don't wish to spend your fun time with. This is exactly the reason I have quit a band (its no fun due to internal personality issues) and exactly why I enjoy playing with some of the other bands (not just good music, but straight forward fun people) If its a hobby then don't waste your time with people you don't gel with on a personal level.
13. 1/4s not 1/8s but the perfect example of a bass doing root notes in an amazing song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xwL-7fKKUE&sns=em
14. I love flats but find there is always a song or 2 in the set where bright rounds are key, last gig I foam muted my p bass with rounds for everything but those songs , it worked ok, taking the brightness and sustain down. I've got one bass with half wounds on, still not convinced but need to gig it a few more times Don't think I'll ever settle either way while I'm playing very varied covers at least
15. I've just amended our ad for a new drummer to include "must be able to keep time whilst experiencing ball cramps" You've got to cover these things
16. A P bass sounds right, from JJ to JJ (Jamerson to Burnell) A Jazz bass looks right
17. It's a bit rough for me to sit back in a chair and enjoy on my tablet speakers, but live in a small gig situation I'd properly get right into it and really enjoy it, they sound like they are having fun.
18. As a hobbist who likes to make sure it's fun while paying for itself ... Band 1, I'd like to see video of them first also, but sounds like a band I could enjoy if the singers, among other things are good. Band 2, four hour rehearsals ? Fair enough if they've a big list of agreed numbers to get through to make sure they work, would need to know the rest of the band had also done homework. Not really for me (although classic rock covers I do enjoy) however it's an honest ad, could be a good bunch of chaps having good fun with no fixed agenda, so great if it's what your after .
19. I was drawn to bass when I first got into music
20. Who knows she's doing so many shows, the set may vary along the way.
21. Saw a "guests" talent show on our campsite in france, one guy got up to sing in an Arnie style English accent "Creep", but he did the album version, he must not have known what the word meant because he sang it with passion to a full house of families with young kids All that money on kayaks etc, and that was the highlight of the holiday
22. I experienced some really bad and embarrassing (as far as the sound guys go) stage manners from a mature man I played alongside with recently Over playing at small gigs can be done by all ages, and is subjective, someone else might dig it Borrow a bass and amp without asking is rude, but I'd wonder why these guys assumed it was ok, perhaps someone else told them "gear provided" in which case it excuses them a little (not a lot) and puts an organiser or other person on the list of people to have word with for next time. Glad your bass is ok, and well done for show restraint and allowing the show to continue
23. Happy was spring , not sure about the summer, kids didn't over play anything that springs to mind.
