1. With recent posts like Lozz pulling out of his bands , I'm sure there is a fair few of us on here who go to see our old bands? I'm going to see an old band on Saturday, ok it's a classic pub rock band, but I had a few years of fun gigging with them, I just couldn't keep the commitment and didn't want to hold them back, they gig at least twice a month now and have a full dairy, there is no way I could do that as I also like playing other styles of music, but when I see them having fun , I do miss it. Anyone else feel the same ?
2. I suppose he is like a Kenny Rogers, in that he is seen more as a singer than a bass player.
3. With a second hand market that allows you to effectively rent basses , I've still got a fair few models id like to try
4. Wasn't the precision fretting part of the appeal to he marketed ? They may have thought many upright players would not embrace a smaller upright , but the fretted bass was at least a completely different idea ? I read recently that they also made a 5 string in the early 60s , so they where inventive back then , and fretless was what they where trying to improve on Apart from the 5 string bit, I'm just guessing though.
5.
If I'd been the producer it would have been very different programme, but nothing like as useful to the average BBC2 viewer!
I suppose watching any documentary where you know a fair bit about the subject is not going to impress you , it's aimed below the professional , it's nice to know that you respected the bbc team, I maybe less cynical now about documentaries where I know little.
6.
I have grown to hate this song that I once loved so much.
That is a downside of playing in covers bands
7. Ok, I think we should all start a pledge to charity of his choice going, if Chris can get the words "Precision" and "Jazz" into his next media interview or piece £5
8. Nice one, very interesting, and a great recognition of your work. Having to look at sports nutrician more now for my son, fortunately the club sorts out people to come and speak to us. Chris, can you sort some of these pills out for our Fat dads vets football team ?
9. found it .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhemzPTYdJE
10.
Had the good fortune of playing with TOTO many times over the years. Hearing Africa live is always a 'goosebumps' moment. These chaps certainly do it justice - nice one!
That is very cool. Love the song, and a brilliant cover it is, cant get the toms out of my head though when listening
11. I'm doing is at the mo , it's been chosen as the pen ultimate track for a wedding coming up . Using the amazing slow downer , 95% speed is comfortable , 100% and it loses feel at some point As others having said , it's no problem until you start thinking about it. And it's always the right the ruins the timing , not the left for me. There are some good points where the chords change where you skip a 16th , so I try to think of it in small chunks. Great version of paul turner playing this on YouTube btw
12. Unless as you say with the new fellas they didn't have much material they where happy with ? We did a 200 odd punter charity gig last year and had the opposite problem , there was as a lot of dancing going on and we didn't want to stop , we had to take a break as they had an auction (with some cool sports signed stuff) but we where straight back on as soon as possible No point in going to the hassle if your not gonna play ?
13. Have a bump on me Lee is a decent fella, buy with confidence
14. I spent ages trying some gear out in Andertons, only to decide not to purchase any of it, I then brought a few bits and bobs, and the guy thought I was only doing it because I felt obliged, perhaps I was a little, but I did need to purchase the sundry items, however what a great non pressure approach. I have brought Markbass gear and a new bass from them before, but the sales guy didn't know that.
15. Address it respectfully , if he goes nuts, or agrees but does not sort it then you cant do much more, then as with all relationships you decide if its worth the hassle or not to continue as is and if not assess your options.
16. anyone who is on bass chat at 12:27 during a weekday has got the balance wrong
17. The way I see it you only have 2 choices if you wish to be sure of success ... Blow up the Bass Gallery or Kill yourself Helpful links to follow
18. thought this would go quick, was tempted even though I have one
19. Its neither right nor wrong, but it shouldn't be contrived, rude, or self inflating.
20. Is this for a completely live song, or is it partly playing to tracks of some sort ?
21.
I don't disagree with those who are saying that differences in timbre on different strings or different frets can make a useful/important difference but the beginner doesn't need to start from there.
this is the correct answer I believe
22. You've obviously weighed it up, and made the right choice, but as with all relationships not everything sounded bad, so you will feel it for a while. Good luck, and I'm sure in 6 months you'll be on a different road with no regret , and a good feeling of nostalgia when you think of them.
23. Im not trained, but have played for many years and I believe it does make a difference, but with any given song you have to decide what sounds right over what is easy play play. An example , I've been listening to versions of whats going on covered by Paul Carrack, the bass player plays around a bit with it and it sounds truly amazing, but various parts sound obviously different to the original and not just due to the modern strings and pickups, you can hear where he is on the fretboard. So yes, they do sound different, and it only matters if you dislike a sound, or you need to play a certain fret because its more fluid in where you are moving to next.
24. I just googled the author of the article and couldn't find a single link or piece of information as to who he is or what he has ever done.
