1. If you buy second hand you can pretty much try any standard bass you like and not lose more than a bit of rent on it, same for me with rics, always wanted one, Finally had the money and the chance, including the right band, but it didn't ever become more used than my P , sold it on. With some things, unless you take the plunge, you'll never know if it's how you think it will be or not
2.
It is a T-shirt design.
So who would wear the T shirt, the singer or guitarist need to only if they wish to boast, the drummer is happily married and doesn't need to , the bass player to advertise his availability or the keyboard player to stand up for the cause ?
3. The coffee shop idea is almost the same as everything you can eat buffet, it can work for both the business and the customer, but no I wouldn't pay to try an instrument in a shop, thats like paying to test drive a car.
4.
I've had far more 'may I touch your instrument' moments from women using that bass than any other!!!!
Bongos always remind me of some huge sci fi laser gun
5. I use a mark bass + 2 x 210, so I can have 210 or 410 The only change I could see myself making to it would be to make one a 210 combo , so the amp is housed but effectively the same, it covers all bases .
6. Great thread, I often check links in sigs and enjoy some of the stuff. Id be very happy to listen to more music made by members and those they know Wish I was involved with an originals project, but Ive too many plates in the air already, and god knows how Id find one, everyone I know plays covers
7. I think there saying that the bass player is solid, self reliant, not needy and only attracts a mate that is deserving, who are rare things, in contrast the singer and guitar playing go for anything that breathes If the keys player is happy, he's better off than the singer and guitarist as their are many dramas that come with fickle chicks reverse the sex of anyone mentioned above if your a lady bassist
8. Never really paid him/them much attention, then we started covering "Be My lover" , and I started to enjoy the band.
9.
On Image #3: what's the scale length?
One mammoth truss rod Have a bump
10. I got one in great nick, can do some better pics if anyone is interested ?
11.
I had no GAS. I wanted to get down to 2 basses. THEN YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!!
Almost the same here, just brought quality P bass, if id seen this first ...
12. I play as clean as possible to learn songs, then mess around with effects later if I wish for live effects, but I'm unqualified to say what's right or wrong
13. Great patience required to work that out and play it back, nice one
I think it's all down to your taste in music and your age. My favourite era is from roughly 1978 to 1984 inclusive so I don't really think in decades much.
What months ?
15. Ive just had a look at some of her other clips, she'd be a pretty handy lady to have around , almost A team like
16.
I did a gig last night with some great players, really top drawer, and, to my ears, it wasn't swinging at all. Nothing I did would make it work for me and I hated the gig. The audience was happy, the other musicians were up-beat but, for me, it was a bummer. I listened back to a recording I made of the gig (1st set) this morning and its fine; not the best gig ever or anything but the basics are certainly all there and it swings just fine. What was that all about?
Your far more competent than me, so I dare not comment, but can ask was it a drummer your not used to playing with ?
17. I had a trade in Capentery and Joinery that seemed so much more glamorous, so I turned down every offer of joining worldwide dominating bands until I stopped getting asked, and now I like to play local functions only
18. She is incredible , used to play her a lot years back, very sad story
19. I did enjoy that, I generally don't comment but I do check out members band links, and songs that get posted but feel unqualified to comment beyond either I loved it or I didn't (and of course the later is only my taste) , anyway , I loved this track, listened only on iPad will put it through a good system over weekend Keep it up
20.
IME no set list works only if ONE person calls the next song and their word is THE LAW.
I agree , but suggested it as clearly in the band we are discussing, democracy isn't working during the gig
21. Listen Confirm any key changes with singer !!!!!!! Jam along a few times get the structure and basic chords, roots and movements Listen again once I know the above and write out structure on an index card, detailing any crucial timing parts, stops etc (i dont read so its in my own way of doing notes) Improve line by learning correct fills and variations
22. Not having a fixed set list is fine but you do have to have some agreement as to how you quickly choose and progress without arguement, if that's not possible then perhaps singer/guitarist have to alternate who's running things each gig etc. Last thing you want is a ruck over song choice during a gig
23. I think the NY eve show was a party, lets sing along to Lola and the Gap band etc. with a few other bits thrown in, and in that spirit it was good. What the weekly Later show is doing is another debate
24.
It's not necessarily that, it's that they are used to playing with a set group of musicians who know each other repertoire and are used to just getting up there and playing.
Surely he must have been aware the bass player did not know his songs ? If he was informed otherwise, and others new he would do this, then its a different story to the one told
