1.
Comments aimed at me? I'm suprised how calm I've been, but that's me.
Nah, it's just that moving that heavy gear doesn't leave you with enough energy to get mad
2. Sorry if I've missed it but what kind of gigs are both bands doing ?
3. I voted I'm happy with my current (markbass) rig , perhaps might next Gas attacked might see me try a barefaced from the second hand section though.
4. Set your price by what you think you want not by the time of year, then advertise it , if it goes then it doesn't matter what time of year it is, if it doesn't then you've lost nowt but understand alittle more about the market
5. Subscribed My IPod classic brought new in 2008 won't restore , ahhh
6.
my heroes in music are 50% women
Which artists are Hermaphrodites ?
7. learn bass first then guitar strings wont matter I put 9s on my daughters acoustic, but she picks up and plays on anything else without really noticing the difference, so may as well not have bothered tailoring it to what is supposed to be easier to begin on.
8. There are people in all walks of life who will say ignorant things to all sorts of people, the list is just that You could write it about bass players, cabbies, plumbers, people of mixed race, white guys, black guys, train spotters ......
9. Buy second hand, ask for help on here if you wish to make sure on anything, and then you can always sell on for a similar price if you wish to upgrade or side step and try something else next. I believe buying new is only for those who really know exactly what they want, except perhaps if you wish to buy a budget bass
10. I wish I could do more than I can, but never really do anything other than learn and practice songs I required to cover, or songs that I feel inspired to learn I can allow myself to get unhappy with what I don't know or can't do, no more than I can wish I was a yard faster and could do Ronaldo step overs at football Im 44 and a weekend gig player
11. I had a brand new mark bass who's fan stopped at first session and it nearly melted, it happens to a small percentage of every make, customer service response is the key here and separates the brands, you've been very unlucky, hope it works out
12. Its all fine until someone with a wireless runs between you and your amp Curly leads are cool, though .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klAGvZ4xnVc
13.
I would suggest the numbers of instruments wilfully destroyed each year is minuscule.
unless some of these bands rehearse it, not totally out of the question these days with how contrived some performances are
14.
Jeez!!
Suggestion wasn't that bad was it?
15. If someone wanted to use my rig, I'd say "do you know about gainstaging" ? If they said yes, I'd say "yes, go ahead please set it up for me" Yep, you've gotta ask, the only shared gigs I've done in the last few years had 15min slots to change drums and amps, the band had to have everything ready with an up ramp and a down ramp, so it's not been an issue for me.
16. I got fender uk to pay 1/2 toward a new neck out of warranty , so ifs it's new it should be covered, I'm sure you have ready but push and pesture, this is doing thier reputation no good Good luck
17. Just watched a few YouTube covers of this from some of the biggest names ever, and nothing gets you like George does, and I'm usually quite easily pleased with covers of great songs
18. We have gigged recently the following to name a few .. Rio, Girls on Film Rip it up Geno Lip up fatty, special brew one step beyond Nite Klub Fascination Don't you forget about me Eye of the tiger Atomic Plus others This stuff always goes down well
19. As above , with we are family and songs like that, we always say how good the bass groove is, but the guitar work also has to be spot on, just strumming doesn't mean he's doing the chic thing any more favours than a bassist who struggles with it. I may have missed it in this thread but can we hear, or see a vid ?
20.
So you've never thought "Oh, ***** how does this one start?" You can't always get out the mp3 to hear it. You can look at the tabs, but they won't tell you the timing.
Not sure he would have sheets in from of him at a Bowie Tribute gig, even if he could read, so the comment is not relevant, read or not, he would have to know his songs well enough before performing, however he works them out.
