1. I don't get the "a stingrays sound cant be replicated" thing ? If a company wished to make a pickup the same as the MM then surely there is no secret recipe ?
2. Could have watched that for so much longer, fantastic
3. My 70s CIJ P cost that, but it was what I was after (neck profile, finish etc), upgraded with KiOgon wiring, it rocks Second hand is the way to go, but hey spending a few hundred more on a bass thats what you are really after, well a lot sillier things have been done, and if its used from years, who cares
4.
Very much this; even if you only know the difference between major and minor will help. I know of a bass player who tends to play major fills over minor progressions - all sorts of wrong
Even if you don't know scales (which Im not endorsing) ears still know whats right and wrong, are you talking about players who play the wrong notes because they think they are right over it sounding right ?
5.
I don't think there's a 'right' way or 'wrong' way to run a band. The problems occur where there is a mismatch of commitment or expectations between members.
This is true
6. The new multi amp is out , so we may see some old amps in the for sales if people want to lay put £1200 on one of these
7. They are definitely very sticky , but that goes after a few hours playing, I'm warming to them now
8. I can't read, but was struggling for a while with structures on some songs, so used some index cards subtly clipEd to my bass stand with a small led light taped to it , worked wonderfully, and was discreet I've seen keyboard players use iPads on brackets that clip to thier bv mic stand and use a software which scrolls the sheets at the correct Bpm , for me to much to go wrong there , and also you can get away with an iPad in a keyboard set up. Obvioulsy your playing level is way above me, but thought I'd share the iPad software thing, it does seem cool , but I can't help thinking it could go badly wrong.
9.
they were going to look for another bassist because the singer felt he couldn't work with me as I take practice too serious.
Can imagine the ad ... Bass player required, must be prepared to help the guitarists with the chords at run through sessions, but should not be so serious as to come prepared enough to know what those chords are
10. Thanks all, KiOgon loom going in today, and will look for some shielding tape
11.
Nothing looks amiss but can't see the capacitor legs clearly. It has to be said those Jap pots ain't the best & could be a fault in the tone pot. I wouldn't worry about cutting the wires off them & putting a decent kit in there, best thing you could do IMO
Thanks John, I'll rob the one from my other P , you'll have to send me another one please ? I like the feel of this bass so much, I might P/J it with my wizards, but i'm not sure if that will devalue it, or even if it does, does it matter
12.
The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain does a pretty mean version of Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Didn't Nirvana do an odd version of it themselves on TOTP or something ?
13.
A lot of examples of non rock turned into rock & some I really like, but how about the other way? Any good examples of rock songs done differently, but done well?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYJUywl7CFw

15. Thanks Can do pic in an hour when home Have had it apart, no wires off at first glance and it looks all intact (need to check properly) No shielding but it has a piece of copper cut to the shape of the pickups that's placed under them
16. Hi Hope someone can help When I turn the treble up it really buzzes, roll it off, or touch it whilst it's set to treble the buzz goes I assuming its a ground wire or something ? Its a new purchase and I want to gig it at the weekend, I have kigon loom I could put in but I'm hoping I won't have to cut anything in this one as its all original and there, but ifs its broke then no worries Any tips ?
17. My P bass with reverse pups (didnt notice that until after I brought it)
18.
I was losing the will to live even when that woman was introducing it.
I skipped that to a random place in the song, so my opinion may not take the whole song in account, but Im not willing to find out if I am wrong
19. Been gigging "walk on by" stranglers style , very different from original You can play Superstition with almost any set up
20.
If you're a working pro band, then this is not acceptable. However if you are a hobby band or the occasional gig type band then this is fair enough.
Im not a pro , but would not get involved with rehearsals like that, neither would many of the people I play with
21. My bass has the reverse pickups in the exact same line as a stock fender , just reversed, so makes sense re a production line model. I wonder how many they made, will contacting fender get me any useful info ?
22. Thanks guys, it certainly did and is puzzling me, but as suggested above, this is the exact bass .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puY2_cRLMbQ Might take mine back, and say it doesn't sound as good as that one
23. A little searching suggests it could be a Fender "Rocco Prestia Signature" ?
24. Took delivery of my newly purchased P bass .... http://www.fareastgu....uk/usedpb1.htm I also ordered a black pick guard, as i prefer that cosmetically, only then did I discover the bass has the pick ups reversed ? Does anyone know if this was std on some of these models, just seems a bit odd ? , its not been routed but just clearly built this way Can I get a pick guard from anywhere with the correct pickup holes ?
