No, not really. Electric bass guitars are all fairly affordable relative to the price of orchestral instruments. For example.
and most likely why we all suffer from GAS and keep chopping and changing

People post all sorts of vids on here, its nice to see Girls voice is really nice, without all that over the topness I hear alot these days. Might check out the album

All the basses in the for sale section are overpriced, I think they should all be reduced by 30% For what I do, and I expect for what alot of us on here do, a simple MIM, VM, or cheap tangle wood/yamaha/bass collection around £250 would be all we need, having said that I haven't gigged one for a while
-
They really should make a bass with just a simple pick up, passive vol and tone (after all amps do everything else you need), a nice contour to rest your arm, and a neck with precise frets and easy to adjust pegs.
I always think you want a 5 ONLY if you hear what it can do for your playing....
Yes, this is what is starting to happen, funny thing is doubt anyone else will notice

Last time I played a 5 string was around 20 years ago, but recently i'm getting fed up of d tuning, and there are increasing times where I wish I had a lower 5th or root to hand. Im worried that as I have tried many 4 strings I haven't even got on with (stingray or P only seems comfortable to me), that id never get used to it, and I rarely practice more than a few hours here and there just to keep my covers alive or learn new ones. Also, whilst I play mostly finger style, I do use a pick and play quite and play quite aggressively with it sometimes, the string spacings might mean, all that gets harder? I know no one can tell me what will happen, but just playing one in a shop for a few minutes (which i've not done yet), wont really give me the confidence to buy Any thoughts gratefully listened to.
*Posts pic of someone eating popcorn in a cinema*
When they stop posting with smilies, it may get knocked out of your hand Re the original post, Awesome band and singer yes, but not a great tune to show it off IMO

I think in all things, music / sport etc, there are some who are more talented than others, but a talent who does practice or train may get passed over by an average joe, with desire and commitment to work hard. But when you combine a natural with someone who is prepared to learn and train hard, you get the Jacos and Bales rising to the top
Thanks Lojo - thought I was first there ... @shark finger - scooped out - the bass doc said it was quite like a 62 after he fitted it
Geek, I've just sent you a pm, bad wording on my part , I meant first dibs to buy, if your trade didn't offer didn't come off , certainly didn't intend to step on your toes

Did a favour for a mate a while back, playing bass at a high fee school parent charity ball thing, posh do, expensive tickets etc. They got the school band to play a few songs before us, and the bass player had a brand new MIA P bass, no stand, it fell over a few times and she didn't care, I said to my mate (who was a teacher there) that she was damaging a bass worth £800 , he said I know, that's what they are like, it's nothing to them. I suppose at least in the above example, it's stupid but natural relicing, but attaching it to a car?
-
Depends why If you need the money then one bass is fine for anyone, unless they are a pro and need an arsenal to meet requirements If you need to de clutter your mind, then it might work, but GAS may return If none of the above apply and you can't find another reason, then basses always remain a cash asset, they may come in handy, give you joy and look nice around the home.

You have to play billie jean and play that funky music and show them an example of slap , or improvise a slap line for those tunes?

Science? Marketing? Or just a load of old Bollock?

I agree, acoustic instrument would be a difference, electronic, not so much. Anyway, whilst I love and use Fenders, I am not sure they worry to much what they make the necks from, I got Fender UK to pay half the cost toward a new neck on a fairly new Fender (out of warranty) because they could not argue it was not rubbish. -
I don't do electronics because I never learned how. One can't "eye" electronics. But millions of people can do it so I'm sure if I learned it wouldn't be that difficult.
You've just answered the oringal question, some people don't do setups for the some reason you don't do electronics As, you say most people could if shown how, but yes I agree also that some people don't believe they could or even want to try I could buy some components and copy a drawing and make a wiring loom, but I'd rather save the research time for something else and pay KiOgon to make one, because it's going to be right and the cost is within what I am happy to pay, if setups where 3x the price , I bet more people would learn to do thier own
What's the mystery? If you can use a screwdriver you can do a set up. Yet there's this notion that there are special people who do "good" set ups.
not everyone is happy doing certain things, some people wont do their accounts, even though they maybe easy to others, some won't put up shelves and so on
I bought a 2011 P Bass last year. got it a bit cheaper coz the 2012 was coming in. I had it set up by the shop before I collected it. When I got it home I played it for a bit, but for some reason I couldnt get on with it. It had random buzzing spots, and was uplayable up on the top register frets. So I gave the neck a tweak and raised the action but it still wasnt right. So I took it to Chandlers who took one look at it and told me it had that infamous Fender hump high up the neck, and it would need a neck tweak and a fret dress to make it playable. Its great now, but I cant believe Fender would let it out the factory in less than high standards.
You still got the LPB MIM ?
