which idiot has broken his left wrist? :(
lojo replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
Only just seen this, I'm also a tradesman and have known a few friends injure themselves seriously and go through similar things, I wish the the very best with this. -
Most of what I've said about playing bass on here is bollocks.

I seem to remember you touching on this a few years back, then coming to the conclusion that you didn't need it, I'm pleased you've now decided to go back to it and judging by this thread, it maybe hard for you now to to follow through on it, so good luck with it. Im seriously in need of doing what you are doing, but have decided just to stick with enjoying what I do (mainly playing fun covers) and I have to many hobbies (along with the kids activities) to fit in the theory (although I am now sitting quite in the back of the room when my daughter has guitar lessons, so am taking something in). If I had my time again, id learn it from young, among many other things All the best, just don't be to down on us fakers, the crowds still enjoy the music, as do I. -

I generally only practice songs I need to do for band, and if I feel the urge I learn songs or albums that I feel like. Obviously my theory is lacking somewhat

I've said this before , I see Mumfords as the Coldplay of Folk, or the Puff Daddy of whatever he is, all clever and talented people making a mass commercial product of a particular thing (I think Pdiddy was a business grad, not from the ghetto) Fair play to them all, much cleverer and talented than Id even dream of being, but in my world, projects like The Imagined Village, or bands like The Men the couldn't Hang, should be getting the success that Mumfords have.

I'd like to experience the original festival, was it Hawkind and the like ?
-
Last summer I nearly did the no amp thing at a small festival, but I bottled it and needed to be sure my amp was with me (i only took a 210, the band before had an 810, so that also made me think I should bring something on at least) Ive heard awefull out front bass tone before when walking forward, at least if I enjoy my tone I will play relaxed, if the foldback doesnt sound great, it will kill my gig completely Mainly though, I only play small venues and pubs, where a good amp is crucial, also NIgel (the OP) for sure plays nicer gigs than me where he may be sure of getting a decent sound.

Watched it liked it, put me into a light sleep half way through, I may buy the album and listen to it late at night.

Took a 7 year break, love it now and am comfortable to work within my limits and have fun

The Thirteen Dumbest Band Names in Rock History
lojo replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
All expect Dave Matthews Band , which seems quite a sensible choice, not a pun. -
I like these guys, but can't get into mumfords , sorry, and I'm sure they don't care http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHutGIIGtbM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Sorry, I wasn't singling you out mate! I meant generally there seems to be a lot of this class as a weapon thing going on. It's as if working class bands have worked harder and must be real authentic bands, whereas if you have a couple of bob spare and can afford a Strat and a couple of hours, you're a middle class ponce and don't deserve success cos you've got f*** all to write about, "Oh f***, Costa's has closed on the high street and now I have to put up with that Starbucks bollahhks'. Good working class geezers from council estates don't seem to have to justify their music, unless they are hip hop or rap artists, then of course they clearly have no musical ability and make right ol infernal racket, how DARE they shout rhythmically about how hard their life is and yet can afford a gold chain!
Where are you getting all this coffee shop stuff from, you need to clarify I do like the mocha at Starbucks, but it has to be a rare treat, for cash and calories
Maverick Sabre, I found myself becoming angry and turned the c*** off.
You just made me laugh in front of strangers , whilst reading this on my phone , especially as you just pulled me up for a misinterpreted comment I made on the Mumford thread , seriously though it's cheered me up Hoping to catch up with the X x on iplayer later, I've really enjoyed them before
Christ, there's been a lot of digs at middle class espresso drinkers going on, hasn't there. But then no-one dares to slag off bands because they are working class (I hate this f***ing CLASS sh*t). Most blues bands are middle class urbanites, so what. And true culturally representative music usually gets a good pasting on here too, hip hop, rap .. What's the deal?
It wasn't meant as a dig, just saying thats where i think it fits if we are going to make boxes, and as i said everything has its place and Mumford have done well finding theirs, I fit somewhere else which can just as easily be joked about. Anyway, as someone else said, if we started a thread about any large mainstream band, the responses would be fairly similar and spread out.

What thats quote about shouting "Jeremy" at a levellers concert, from that insult list that was posted, think it could apply here also, middle class uni folk music ? I could be completely wrong, and there is a place for everything, and Mumfords have very successfully found thiers, so yes, fair play .
-
for most music its not important , its more about vibe and melody however, i doubt I would listen the laid back music (early eagles, csn etc) if they where not singing about taking it easy, and ACDC, wouldn't sound right singing about studying hard. but mainly its not important, or at least secondary.
-
I've not seen this yet , but have enjoyed them on other shows before
-
If your into this kind of music , then this lot are aweful, if your fairly pop chart driven, then they are like the Coldplay of folk I guess. Check "wagon wheel by Mumfords, then by the old crow medicine show , and you'll see how it should be done. I've seen some great bands at folk festivals who can only fill small venues, so this lot have someone clever driving it, I'll give them that.

Ok, I like veiwing everyone's band links and live clips , but I've not got involved with this yet. So I did listen to most of the sound clips last night, and found it hard to vote, if I do I think it would be very random
-
I'd pay a membership , but doubt I'd have paid for first access , you need to know how good things are first , perhaps "first month free" to get you involved , with restrictions or something This maybe a meaningless debate, if the owners are sticking to the £20 sales section fee only then I support that , it's difficult when there are so many options , opinions and no truly correct answer
