1. It seems its a fair poll, but list has to be understood it was voted by a wide range of people, some who where simply voting on songs they knew had strong basslines, but I doubt many of those voting for muse would know much about JJ (either of them) or jaco etc. Not surprised under pressure got a lot of votes from the general public over Edwards.
2. Was looking for another littlemark, but how much is the head alone ?
3. There was for a number of years a group of Indian looking guys dresses in the traditional red indian gear (at least stereo type from cowboy films) who busked down my way and sold CDs, they played some nice guitars and pipes, guess they where most likely accountants or something during the week.
4.
Why? Do you have a violent aversion to baseball?
That's not what I expected the first page of search to reveal, hope that comes up one day in a quiz
5.
At least I had some familiarity with about half of them. I must get out more.
Yep me too. Seems more like a list of most recognisable lines over a wide range of folk, rather than best
6. I want to find out more about Babe Ruth, but I'm worried out typing it into google or you tube
7.
I must admit, I did have a chuckle at the levellers one.
Yes, that's a good one
8. Some horrible, some great, glad slowdive got a mention, although not for the right reasons ,they are great but I agree very marmite
9.
Interested in the outcome of this
Me to , I have a fair amount of D tuned songs, also did a dep gig for a rock band, whole gig is D tuned. Wanting to set a bass up D tuned full time
10. We all have guilty pleasures (musically), outside of the social image we create for ourselves, it just depends if you admit it and don't feel guilty I suppose.
11. Some musician friends at the time, played an instrumental (keys, sax, percussions, guitar) for the walk , then after the vows I picked up the bass and played "your the best thing" Gladys Knight
12. Lines, chords, fills etc are easy to learn, but remembering structures without prompts or relying on hearing something someone else is supposed to do is the hard part, you either have to know or really love to song in question , or have played it a lot. Some index cards and a discret clip with led on my stand help, when I know I've no chance during a new song that I might have trouble with.
13.
All you need to do is to make sure that it extends the strap button to the same point as it is on your Fender.
Cheers, thought I was going mad, but this solution makes sense, ill get something made up
14. Yes pulling the body over with one of those bars will make it sit as I'm used to. I'll see if I can get the measurements from the steinberger one and fabricate one. Cheers all, sorry I know I annoyed some you by mentioning no. of frets instead of body position.
15. Get it out in the open it will only grow as an issue in your head otherwise You mention you where not happy yourself with your takes, so the main question for me would be, not that fact they needed upgrading but why did they not ask you if you to go again if they clearly had the time and resources to do it. Also , not sure where the recording is going on and at what level, but whats the deal with the guy who played it and the credit (unless of course if its your mate or the engineer) Good luck with this
16.
How has that got anything at all to do with the number of frets?
Ok technically its not the number of frets, its the fact the the body position (either by strap or sitting) pushes the neck a further away than a fender would, i guess hence the weird aftermarket strap bracket
Are you playing it sitting down or standing with a strap? It would also help if you either told us what the new bass was or posted some pictures of it.
Its a Hohner B2A as Paul S above has commented on, nothing wrong with it plays lovely, its just weird having to stretch 3 frets further than im so used to.
17.
I'm just obsessed, in my own small way, with music. Some instruments I adore, some less so. I'm a frustrated drummer, but I love guitar, and bass is my current voice, I love bass. But I don't think anyone is born a bassist anymore than I think anyone is born a butcher.
You must meet my local butcher
18.
I'm not kidding the nut is a whole tone further away than on the p bass, I've even found a thread on talkbass that shows an commercial made add on by steinberger to alter the strap position and bring the neck closer It's not really a problem, like anything I'll get used to it, just after years of playing fender/stingray style basses I did not realize the neck position could vary so much between makes. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/49343-hohner-b2a-steinberger-strap-attachment/
19. I've always loved music and wanted to make it, though I was not fortunate enough to have the chance to play anything until I could afford it through working , but I've always picked out baselines in music, and it felt the natural instrument to want to buy, that's why I'm a bass player.
20.
I don't get the problem? I wouldn't notice if I had frets all the way up to the pickup!
It's not about playing high, it's about the nut being further away, so where I'd fret an A without looking on a P bass , it would be a B on my new one. I take the point if I put the time in I'd get used to both, silly question I suppose, but I've spent 25 years on basses with similar necks.
21. Just acquired a new second hand bass that's 4 frets longer than my precision (std fenders I'm really comfortable with) Now concerned that the position difference (same arm position is one tone difference) is going to confuse my playing, as on a precision I rarely have to think about or look at the fretboard as I am so used to the postioning, if I put time into my new bass am I going to undo the experience I have on my fender and always be in a state of thought between the 2 necks? Doubt I've explained this well, but hope it makes sense
22. I love playing the line

Brought a headless hohner from Vilem, after a skype chat we did the deal and he promptly sent it from his country (Czech Republic) to the UK, it was tracked and arrived as advertised and well packaged Vilem, like a true good BChatter, went overboard to let me know the wear on the bass etc. I know it can be a bit scary buying from abroad, but I can honestly say Vilem has acted liked a true gent. http://basschat.co.uk/user/27516-william64/
