1. Surprised no one has made a comment about the bass being fender and that its not versatile enough to play punk or funk on. I like that the kids smiling

MIM

Had to have a neck replaced on an MIM p bass , it was only just out of warranty, and they agreed to pay half (effectively it cost me £150) Id only just got back into playing again when I brought it, before I discovered BC and other sales sites, so I doubt i'll ever buy new again now Dont think it means MIMs are bad, just you get what you pay for and every now and then, a std or budget end bass will have an issue, just like anything else with parts
3. Most likely a performance by Macca himself somewhere id guess Dont throw anything at me for saying it as Im a big fan of his Beatles and Wings work, and I do think he's a legend in all musical areas
4. sonic blue with matching headstock does it for me, still considering ruining my Fender usa headstock to do it on my p/j build
5. My understanding of "wrong" technique , be it bass playing or anything, is that if it works then great it gets you through , but there are always consequences later, like you will be hindered by the technique if you wish to play/run faster etc. I've many wrong techniques , not just in bass playing, but I except my limitations and don't have the time to go back and undo most of them.
6.
Most Jazz recordings take place over a few hours, rarely more than a day. There is seldom a budget that allows for anything greater.
In my limited but enjoyed knowledge of jazz , Id like to think that higher budgets and over production would ruin it somewhat, but then in any style of music I always prefer it live BTW Is this Jazz ? https://soundcloud.com/barry-lamb
7. I'm interested when I see a gig or video what guys are using, but not really bothered finding out anything more, perhaps then odd effect question if I'm trying to emulate a line , but most covers I do don't rely on effects.
8.
True, I did say it was my only gripe so it is a very minor one really
I'm glad you said that I thought it was the start of another P bashing session I like the fact the bands adapt the live shows from the records , I've done plenty of covers recently where I've found live versions working wonderfully on my 4 string, where the record doesn't. I like BM
9. Could you pm me your address , I've a friend who travels to bath , want to see if he goes anywhere near you and when he's next likely to do so Also ,has it had a lot of use ?
10. Not sure about the cabs, but the pf500 is a very good amp for the money
11. What configuration of components is the top of upgrading, that couldn't to topped or upgraded
12. I hope he's ok , I remember him when I first started on here I'd bet he's taken a break to study the Moondance line
13. My p bass used to be an original 62 , but I upgraded it all with superior products made 30 years later, it's now a 62ri, can I sell it for £6k
14. No, and it's the very reason I'm turning my back on them after years of loving them above all other variations of bass I've also defended them until now, but deep down I knew there was not enough knobs and dials to cover all requirements.
15. I'm pretty sure you could find an example of a precision being used in a successful band in almost every style off music made using a traditional drums / guitar / bass + line up.
16. You should get a second hand Ampeg PF for that, great amps
17. Picked up a Fender 3/4 classical educational guitar in local shop for £63 with gig bag Bottom 3 strings are wrapped in steel , g,b,e are nylon
18. Cheers Ray I'm a bass player, it's been over 20 years since I gigged guitar, but recently I'm just loving acoustic guitar and want to strum again. I suppose it does not take much effort for me to learn my bass covers, perhaps Ill follow my urge and like you say , it may help my bass playing in other ways I don't see. Have enjoyed music for years, and I suppose over recent years I've done everything the covers bands have required on bass without trying to hard, and i have given up trying to learn anything beyond that eithesome it theory or playing technique. so picking up the acoustic and getting frustrated at my playing is not something I've really been faced with for a while, and I've got the hump and want to push on with sorting it out, even if it's just for my own personal enjoyment.
19. Over recent years, bass practice , even if it's just keeping on top of the to learn well list, comes first , but recently I've been having an acoustic guitar thing, (should never have got back into listening to lindisfarne and the like) , but as I've not really put much effort into the guitar for ages, I'm very frustrated at my playing (miles off my standard for pub gigs) , now I'm worried if I spend to much time on that my bass playing will suffer. How do you , with jobs and familys balance the importance of instruments. I should really just have a bass shouldn't I ?
20. Totally depends on band dynamics, schedules and personal desire I've played in 3 at once (before kids) it worked well, I've since played in 1 band that was more hassle than when I balanced 3 I think also, if you balance more tha1 band, you need to be honest with everyone, how you decide who gets first shout if there is a clash, either 1st in diary or by importance order etc
21. Great song, check out other stuff by the crusaders, spiral is one of my fav tracks
22. Sometimes a genuine random question about selling something might be timed well and work out for both parties, so I don't think it should be discouraged, however if someone is bugging you with the intention of offering silly prices then they are no better than a stalker
23. If you have no or little savings , save it, you'll find a use later. What I'd do, priority would be a holiday round a pool with the family in the summer.
