2. If you can buy a ric on here for around £1250 give a take a bit depending on condition then you should get almost all of your money back if you can't get on with it I effectively rented a ric that way for a year , I love em , but somehow I always reach for the p , might get another one day, especially if those blue boys keep cropping up! Obviously the costing is just my view, others my disagree
3. You don't need keys to gig a stranglers song !
4. Whenever I've brought new cabs they always are wrapped in plastic within thier boxes Who knows where they are stored when they are shipped But the plastic should keep out damp air, cold in itself I can't see doing any damage ? My concern in the outhouse situation would be not the damp as that can be protected from, but what else is in there and who else uses it, is someone gonna lob a load of tools on it or the like,
5. At my next gig I will be playing walk on by , stranglers style, among other covers of covers I'm going to love playing it, but they'll be some who won't know it and think we are murdering the original and some who know it who think we are murdering the stranglers version if I don't get all the runs exactly as the record, which I won't dispite devoting hours to it Hopefully most will enjoy the band if we are tight, which is all you can really ask, as they'll always be a split view on how covers should be approached
6.
. I sell basses for my day job, so that doesn't help.
If you do it in a shop, surely that means you have to play a few bars of random slap everytime someone show an interest in one?
7.
which song lojo?
Walk on by
8. Anything above and beyond a bolt standard P bass is just for boy racers really isnt it
9.
I play Football, does that make me a Footballer?
It's all about our mad mother tongue, maybe different in others, but in ours Saying, I'm a bass player is ok regardless of level Saying, I'm a footballer, implies your a pro Saying, I'm a midfielder is ok, regardless if its for man utd or the dog n duck
10. Home use? That's a lot of budget unless you have no neighbours with 1/2 mile My bass sounds awesome through my stereo system , B&W speakers, I've no need to even use an amp
11. If its your role to play bass in any situation that involves other people then you are the "bass player" regardless of competence or experience.
12. Been practising a stranglers song the last few nights, and through my pf 500 with headphones it sounds very authentic (p bass almost full treble and pick) but I imagine when I go to the band run through with a cab it wont sound as good.
13. I'm referred to as a "bass player" because I get called on to dep for a few bands that call me that and offer a fee I'm currently the "bass player" in a local project that has only done 5 charity gigs and 1 corporate function in 3 years The term says nothing about my level of ability, which I assume is not relevant if I can competently play the parts required The term also says nothing about my ability or lack of to compose or play other instruments, just simply is the title other people refer to as my role in the above situations
14.
Ours cost about £40 and is made from a black cotton sheet with iron on printer paper from staples. I just printed the letters, cut them out and ironed them on. My wife tidied up the sheet edges by stitching a hem all round. The top hem is a big loop so we can either run a pole thu it, pin it up or gaff tape it to the wall behind. Since this pic was taken we splashed out another £5 to have our website address ironed on. Works a treat as now any pics taken of us in pubs don't havre dart boards, lamps, brass tack, specials menu etc in the background
Nice professional result, with little outlay, nice one
15. Last wedding I did I got £150 I play for much less, depending on what its for and who's involved
16. Lend them to me for a month and then I can give an answer
17.
I can't help but comment on the lack of knowledge of some of the people though! The amp owner was the worst but even the guy in the shop seemed to have the commonly held assumption that bass players only played roots and thirds inferring that only modern bass players are more mobile. Some of the bass players in the fifties (and, of course, earlier) were phenomenal, Eugene Wright, Ray Brown etc just listen to Anita O'Day for some incredible bass playing (not sure who her bass player was). Not all these bothered with the transition to electric as Jamerson did, granted.
i think it may have been fairly scripted and aimed low (the average joe would instantly know the my girl line, but not whats going on etc), i'm sure those guys must know way more
18. Thats interesting "you cant write the feel"
19. Mustang, sex on fire and predict a riot cone up alot, I'd never choose them but don't mind playing them Funky music is also in a lot of sets Last year Adele songs seemed to get a fair airing
20. Covers only I have many years ago been in a gigging originals band, but don't have time to be involved in anything like that now, just give me a set list to learn of covers at home , that works
21. I care Set I'm currently learning has some songs treble cranked with aggressive pick and some tone down with fingerstyle and mute in
