[/quote] I'd agree many started that way, like many of us had alternate views at a young ag But once money and age kicked in, they did what most of us would have done and turned into capitalist hippies, Neil young at least refused to let his music get used commercially.

For the average joes among us , I think it's all to do with how well you really know what your playing

Neil Young was individual and experimental, and inspired many other musicians and has a loyal fan base, not sure how anyone can conclude his skills are lacking, he just choose to do something with them thats a bit marmite Personally I like CSN better without Y , but like Neil Young as a solo artist. I also like Tribute bands as a concept, especially if the musicians enjoy it along with a hall packed with fans

There are good and bad bands as demonstrated in some of the videos posted But nothing wrong with tribute acts or covers bands, the band members and punters enjoy them and that's something nobody should critise any more than watching a stage play that's been done before Agreed as someone said above, it should be tongue in cheek in attitude, but then most things entertainment wise should be

It's true re the live set up, I saw a band whos bassist had my fav stack, orange obc's and ad200 , I got excited, but foh was almost bassless in the centre

I did a few bucket pubs last year, it's only ok if there's a crowd

I've got one of these from the early 90s (in fact I've given it to a friends son by I see it all the time) Was my pub gig bass for many years and there was nothing wrong with the playability or sound IMO Great find

I've played in a gigging oringals band and more covers /functions than my age, but I've never really learned anything re music as an adult and nothing of the sort was on offer as a kid (I brought my first guitar and amp 2nd hand with my wages after wanting one for years) Went for a lesson a few years back to see what was in involved and where I was at, and decided that whilst I really wanted to progress knowledge of theory, the time and cost required where already spoken for with family and other hobbies Im involved with. So playing covers is now all I do, I enjoy it and sometimes make some good money for a nights fun So you could say my attitude to learning bass and music stinks If I has my time again it would be different , but now it's all about the time I have

It's rarely known but they also made a bass named "precision", but hardly anyone uses them these days because they are basic and can't cover a wide range of styles

Not good Depped for a band , main guitarists black star amp went down (brand new) after 2 songs, I lost the confidence without him as couldn't hear properly the vocals either, after messing around they got him plugged into the desk so he lost his effects and it wasn't the same , played a few more songs before our slot was over but the fun free feeling we had during the first 2 songs was lost Nice sunny day out watching the other bands though

I got to 4:11 , cant argue with what I heard, one step or brick at a time (though you cant build a mansion with a few 1000 scott mate) Went to a speech recently done by an olympic swimming gold medalist, she also said tiny steps, her first race she didn't finish (she cried in the middle and left) Her 2nd race the goal was just to finish, and her 3rd race goal was not to come last again, and so on

When this is solved we must pick another random bassist from an 80s Solo artists totp backing band I want to know this guy is alive and doing well

I youtube live versions of covers I need to learn, often a live bassist adds things you wont hear on the radio versions we tend to mostly learn the song from

I think this is why we added a 5th string to basses In my experience doing covers , some songs are fine in most keys and are easily shifted, others are fixed and the singer should not do it if they cant in original key
