Second hand 2008 - present American Standard Jazz gets my vote!!! Simply the best in my experience so far. Build quality is superb, flawless finishes and man, can they sing! And the 2012 - current models have Custom Shop pups in them! Had a few Jazz basses over the years and then moved almost completely to Precisions only. Got lucky last year in a trade and ended up with a 2011 Am Std Jazz and overall, I swear it is the best bass I've ever owned. It is stunning to look at, hold and play. It's light, the neck feels perfect and it has so much growl! I imagine if it had the word Sadowsky on the headstock it would easily command three times the price and that seems to be the only difference that I can find find between the two (based on the handful of Sadowsky models I've been lucky enough to try). Who knew Fender could make 'super-Jazz' basses themselves?! I read on another forum recently: "The Jazz is like a sexy young mistress, but you always go back to your loyal wife, the Precision!" don't know what to make of that really. Can't we all just get along... Try some Japanese Jazzes too - there are some great ones out there. Haven't had too much experience with any of the new Squier CV/ZVM Jazz models but i hear they are excellent! Try the marketplace section on this site, won't cost you four zeros...

Anyone A/B'd the older cow paint one v the newer white one? Is there a difference?
-
At least it wasn't the Southland version of Kiwi (the only real unique kiwi accent) - everything with an R gets four extra R's - eg "You Durrty Flurrt in yourr Purrple worrk shurrt" - it's brilliant! It's like a load of Irish and Scots on valium, so no different from home then... Every day down here is another adventure

Sorted. Current Doubler (Green TRex cable -7quid) sorted the issue. Downside, I now have no space on the FuelTank Jnr for any new 9v pedals I add. Will get a daisy chain. haha
Invercargill? That's Burt Munro country, isn't it?
The very same! I've given up the Roses of Tralee for the sounds of hoons on their motorbikes on windswept Oreti Beach! haha Chur bro, as the kiwis do often say
The MIJ jaguar has the 70s spacing, the MIA version I think is 70s but I haven't seen one in the flesh. The squier versions range, since they come in short scald too. Hope that helps. FWIW, I loved my Japanese one, excellent build quality, preamp is a bit crap though.
Love my jJapanese one too. Noticed on the Fender site the Deluxe (CIJ) series Jags have diappeared. Perhaps now they are part of the American Standard series they no loner produce them in Japan

I like the Rascal. I would not say no at this stage. It's got kind of a Jag/Dano vibe about it, which was a mod I had considered making to my Jag. Now I can keep both my Jag and Dano DC intact AND have crazt hybrid styles. Now, to find one in New Zealand and play it... GAS levels rising...

I've got a DC. Took me about 6 years to find one that didnt cost stupid money and it appeared in the local music shop in my adopted home in rural NZ! Typical! If there was a fire, it's what id save first!!! Also keeping my eye out for another - Commie Red would be nice!
If this is the only pedal you have with more current requirement than your power supply, and you can spare two isolated outputs for it, maybe try a current doubler?
thanks, I will try that this evening (if I have the green doubler cable lying around)

Hi guys, Just took delivery of one of these bad boys. It came with a boss adapter. I have a FuelTank Jnr under my Pedaltrain I was hoping to connect this pedal to. However, before I do, I want to be totally sure this is ok to do. Some limited info on TB suggests that the pedal runs more than the 120Ma offered by each ouplet on the FT Jnr Does anyone own a Qballs or similar sized pedal they run using a multi PSU like Trex or Voodoo labs etc? Cheers Colin

Hi all, A while back I happened across a rather nice 51 RI Precision on Ishibashi. It needed a bit of work but looked quite tidy. It also came with a rather fetching brown leather (or leather looking) Fender gig bag which I've never seen before and am having trouble finding on Google! Anyway, I didn't get the bass in the end. BUT a few months back I found a 51 locally with some lovely mods and snapped it up. Thing is, I'd love to track down the gig bag I saw on the Ishibashi site to go with it. Does anyone have a pic or info or even better, one for sale? Cheers Colin
There was a Deluxe model with 5 knobs iirc, but I think it had a humbucker at the bridge.
+1
Lives in Japan but only posts to the US? Seems legit...
Also +1 The Deluxe version had a humbucker in the bridge and 5 knobs. I never saw a Deluxe that wasn't that boring dark wood finish (not saying they don't exist, just never seen one) I seem to recall seeing somewhere (a long time ago, when I had my Lyte) that there may have been a very short-lived Lyte Deluxe just badged as Lyte with a jazz pickup and 5 knobs but whether that is true or not... The input jack may well have been changed as almost all of the factory ones were cheap and poorly soldered - I know about 4 or 5 Lyte owners (one of whom has several and plays them exclusively) and all bar one have had them replaced.

Do 90's basses count as 'vintage'. Price question
basshead56 replied to basshead56's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the OP is implying that the seller of this T-bird is asking a silly high price, and the only possible justification for doing so would be that he is labouring under the misconception that the bass is somehow a "vintage" - and therefore worth more than it really is... Or that's my interpretation, anyway...
That was my main point really. -
Is that a new pg as well? Have you totally removed the tone pot with everything all the way up? It looks mean!
Good evening, Col... I'm not sure of the utility of comparing London prices with those practised locally in New Zealand. I have regular contacts with collectors in Australia, and the prices we see are very different from those elsewhere. Not sure this helps much, either...
Bonsoir! Good equipment and gear is harder to find down here, but it shouldn't be THAT expensive. Most of the collection I've built since arriving here has been reasonably well priced and stacks up with the prices on offer at home... I think there are chancers and bludgers everywhere! haha -
Hi Col, Personally I'd ask the bloke what he's smoking! £2K for a 90s TBird is HUGE money! Not even 70s Ps are going for that much in good condition! I'd steer well clear personally. It's not mint, it's not the colour you prefer and it's up for huge money!
I'm definitely thinking he's on something... -
Hi all, There's a bloke up the road with an early 90's Gibson Thunderbird for sale. I've got him interested in a part exchange with some cash his way but he seems to think $4K NZD (2000 pounds) is what it's worth?! A new one is about $2700 (1350 quid) and this one isn't 100% original and has quite the number of scuffs. Also if i'm honest - never been a fan of the sunburst ones - much prefer the Ebony models. But looks arent everything - i prefer a bass sounds good rather than look good Now i have numerous 70's basses, some in mint condition, some are 'mojo'd' to hell, but I've never paid anything like 2 grand for any of them and they are considerably older and all bar one are in closer-to-original-condition. My questions then are - have I been lucky up to now? or is 2 grand a bit ambitious to say the least for a 90's Tbird? Cheers Col

Sorry was a link fro my phone. Was just about to repost it but EssentialTension's beaten me to it (above). It's a great site I used in Ireland to pick up some great bits & pieces of gear over the years

I have one. And I adore it!!! Took about 8 years to find one that didnt cost the world. Ebay, here abd a bunch of other places- then found one in the second hand section of the music ahop in my new home town on the other side of the world. And in typical fashion, the exact same one pops up for sale down the road from where I used to live back home! Anyway, here it ishttp://touch.adverts.ie/electric-basses/danelectro-ds2/5232232

I've ended up getting a set of Gretsch Blacktop pickups (the same ones that come in the Electromatic basses out at the moment). The rings are wider than the current stock pickups but approx the same length. The pickups themselves are smaller than the stock ones. I don't have time to fiddle with the soldering iron or any potential routing that may be required as I'm flat out with work and home renovations so have turned it over to a tech mate of mine. He reckons it should be a fairly easy replacement job so should have it tomorrow (all going well) Will post pics/results ASAP

I love mine. 2006 CIJ Hot Rod Red with matching headstock. Lovely passive tone with everything cranked and both pups engaged. Active does buzz a fair bit but there is a simple solution - copper tape the crap out of it and shield the pickguard! I generally prefer the passive tone but there is something nice about the active one too and I usually don't dig active Fenders (my 90's American Deluxe Precision sounds amazing too though!). The Jag really does cut through in active mode without sacrificing that thundery Jazz style goodness! I have no idea what the pickup spacing style is though. I had a Squier VM Jaguar for a bit and I honestly can't believe I sold it - I miss it terribly! It was my favourite bass to gig with - perfect tone every time from the stock PJ pickups. Gutted it went but couldn't justify two Jags - I'm no Prescott (but I am becoming a fat b*st*rd)! I can't wait to hear what the new American Standard Jags will be like!!!
