1. Dammit!!! I just managed to get my hands on an original Cabbie last year. Oh well, I'm still in love with it. Just need to swap the pickups out for gretsch ones. Awesome basses.
 2.
Did she use and iron man?
Surely it's Mop Rules?! I'll get me coat...
 3.
I think Lozz is Leo Fender in disguise ??
Lozz is the man! $800 Euros?! Bargain!!!
 4.
Think that track might be set to private Col? Saw a video of myself playing at a jam night last week, only thing I can say is that I'm glad that the phone camera barely picks up the bass notes!
Hi Drew, Can't seem to get the public link up and running... I guess try putting in 'Otepuni' in the search bar, that might get around it. I saw a video recently too, at least I kinda looked like I knew what I was doing. haha
 5. My old bass! She was a beauty and that case was a pain to get over from the US! Sold her to Oggy back in 2010 before I left for New Zealand. Good to see it's still around. Whoever gets it is getting a cracking bass!
 6.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Possibly, Orange might be trying to move in on the EBS/GK/Mesa/Hartke using metal people. I just don't see Orange offering a really extensive eq system that you tend to get with such amps at a similar price point. If the blend is awesome though, it might render any other criticisms meaningless though.
True, it does appear they are venturing into Mesa territory, but this is no M-Pulse 600 - lacks the big EQ section and (Han) Solo channel... I'm off...
 7.
Can't add any useful suggestions, I'm afraid but I'd like to know how you get on, and what exactly you do to add the clicky I'm thinking about adding one to my Stagg EUB Let us know anyhow Good luck with it Marc
Hi marc, will do mate
erm ...whats a clicky?
A clicky is a smaller transducer pickup one may attach beneath the fingerboard to amplify the 'click' sound of slap/percussive playing.
 8. Hey guys, I'm trying to boost the 'click' in my slap sound and have been considering adding a clicky pickup to my Baby clone. It already has a transducer style pup under the bridge which sounds great, but unfortunately it just doesn't give me the click I hear playing acoustically. What's the best way to sort this? I have thought of getting the clicky, and having it wired to the tone knob (with the tone disconected at full) and having this pot control the clicky volume. Would this work? would I need a preamp? Any recommendations on clickys? Cheers Colin
 9. Hi all, Just heard a 'bootleg' of my 'side-project' band's second show (that was only my second/third proper gig on DB) taken from the desk that night. It was mostly covers with a couple of our own chucked in. Whilst we were fairly intoxicated going on (it was 1am by the time we staggered onstage-the joys of being the headline at a blues/folk/rockabilly show, during a huge biker festival) AND considering it was my second set that night, I reckon it was pretty good overall. It was done using my Baby clone strung with red Weedwhackers going through my VT Deluxe to the desk and a crappy unknown Peavey am on stage. Some of my lines definitely reflect the band name and vibe (Otepuni Moonshine); staggered and drunken. I was quite impressed with my slap tone, which is what I really wanted to nail, so happy with that. The drummer slipped a couple of times but I covered it up as best I could.haha. The guitarist's timing was off in a couple of places and I seem to recall the crappy/battered house Peavey amp (fairly sure it was a keyboard amp) cut out a couple of times so my onstage monitoring wasn't brilliiant. Anyway, there's definitely room for overall improvement (hey, if it was perfect, I'd be bored all day!) but I'm happy with how I'm coming along- I reckon I'm ten times better now when compared with that gig back in November. I'm also thinking of adding a clicky to the fretboard to make the slap tone a bit more defined/sharper. Only gutted I couldn't get a copy of my first set with my Rockabilly mates, cause I reckon that was much better (it had to be, I was stone-cold sober!) But this set was pretty good (I reckon). I certainly had fun playing, so did the boys and we got free beer and paid pretty well, so I guess that's all that matters If anyone has a spare 33 mins and wants to have a listen/provide some constructive criticism/tear it to pieces - all is gratefully appreciated Clip here on Soundlcoud Cheers Col
 10. I think they look great. Sound wise, never heard a bad one. I wouldn't say no to one.
 11. Has to be the 68-69 Boss edition! Seriously though, of the two, I'd be more tempted by the Pawn Shop version, having owned the 64RI. I loved the look and feel of it (fiesta red) and it was nice and light. Beautiful neck and fretboard. What let it down for me was the sound. It didn't have the same thump I heard in my head, no matter what i did with it (raising pickups, different strings etc). Don't get me wrong, it was a great bass and i was hesitant about selling it, but it wasn't getting the use it deserved so it went to a good home (on here). I tried the PS version recently and loved the sound of the 'huge motherbucker' - proper vintage sounds on tap there. Mind you, Paul S. has the right idea - get a cheap old Musicmaster and mod it out - vintage look and feel and still cheaper than either Mustang new (if you get the right one) - you can make your own 'Pawn Shop' model - that's what Fender did!!!
 12.
Niiiiiice bass, congrats.
Cheers mate, it is indeed one of the nicer ones I've picked up. Seriously growly without being too dark and muddy. Not usually a fan of flats by any means, but they just seem 'right' on this. Mind you, never tried LaBella before either...
Schwing... Like the light relic
Yeah, it's a fantastic light relic job, just around the edges in places. It really does feel lived in, but brand new at the same time. The guy i got it from has a serious collection of MIJ/CIJ Fenders which he seems to be thinning out before he rotates back to the UK. A kindred spirit - these are all mods I would have 100% definitely made myself anyway. Just short that bridge cover and tug bar... Anyone got either lying about idle? Happy to take them off your hands
 13.
Shiny! Nowt wrong with more Precisions I can't see the jack socket. When you said Strat style I expected to see the chrome recessed pocket on the front of the bass, Is it in the side?
EXACTLY! The more the merrier! haha Yeah it's still on the side
 14.
Love it, really want a DC!
They are great basses. If you can get one without spending silly money, get one!
 15. My New Zealand stable of Precisions: L to R 1977, CIJ 51RI and 1973
 16. Here she is, the Xmas pressie I bought myself. It's an early 2000's CIJ 51RI Precison. The previous owner stripped it back to the wood and refinished in Transparent Blonde. He also stripped the neck finish, added a slight contour, replaced the jack socket with a Strat-stryle one, added a bakelite pickguard and a nic set of LaBella flats - all of the mods I would have made myself anyway! It THUMPS!!! Totally smitten!!! Only thing I'd do is add a bridge cover, which I will do later this week if I can find one...
 17. Duplicate post
 18. I love my Jag (Hot Rod Red w matching headstock). Bought it new last year (but it'd been hanging in a store unsold for about 4 years) Looks ace, Amazing slim Jazz neck and a really dark snappy tone. I rarely use mine in active mode, but when I do it's just for that little extra boost. It's like an aggressive Jazz bass tone in passive and the series parallel switch gives you the option to fatten/darken the tone. I had the Squier VM first and loved the PJ pups. I played that more than any other bass I've owned! Then got the Fender and A/B'd them. The Fender just had more bite and a lot more tonal variation. Heartbreakingly, I sold the Squier after a couple of weeks being 'Two Jags'. A couple of other posts have mentioned a noise issue - I am aware of a few people having this problem but can safely say mine is 100% perfect without any extra shielding. It's my main gigging bass at the moment and I always get heaps of questions about it at gigs. Haven't tried the Troy Sanders or the Modern Player Jags but I doubt they'll top the Deluxe series. Get one! Them's my two cents anyway.
 19.
Is there anyone with a Thunderbird and an EB, who can compare the sound of both (EB in HB mode)?
+1 The more I see of the bullion gold model, the more I want one!!! If it can out-Thunderbird a Thunderbird I'm having one, with chips and a LARGE coke!!!
 20. Surely with it's combination of round and crispy it's more similar to a Lion Bar? Would love a pair of those Fidelitrons for a project!
 21. Own an Ampeg and love it it. Tried an Ashdown and didn't think it was brilliant. Tried a Mesa and also loved it. Hard call but would swing toward the Ampeg for a slightly more 'muscular' sound.
 22. You definitely want Olympic White. I've got an Arctic white standard Jazz and it isn't as white as I would have like either. Also had a CIJ Precision in Olympic White andit would make the boffins at Daz or Persil cry it was so brilliantly white!
 23. I was never that big a fan of Mesa back in the old country, but since I've come down here I've become a bit of a convert from the Ampeg stuff! (Mind you, I'm just waiting till I get my gear shipped, then I'll have it ALL MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Seriously though, I've got an MPulse 600 and PH 8x10 which I picked up for an insanely low price - well trade (I got very lucky!)!!! This is my main rig and it is glorious!!! Don't be fooled by its clean and sexy, modern lines and alluring finish - it's not made of aluminum, spiders webs and helium - It is in fact a horrible and merciless b*stard to shift! However, when in situ and going, it does in fact [s]move air[/s], nay - move mountains, part seas and generally produces a very pleasant bass sound that both flaps me trousers AND makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Since getting my grubby mitts on this weapon of mass seduction, I've had the matching 2x10 cab and also bought a Scout Radiator 15 and both of those cabs are ace too. I'm now keen on something Mesa AND a bit more full of magic glass bottles, but having tried the Prodigy and not falling in love at first sound, I fear I am doomed to roam the earth in a state of 'meh'. Wouldn't mind a Buster head or perhaps a D -180 (something with a bit of throat!) To answer the original question though: Not sure about the new prices but there are some great S/H deals to be had, especially round these here parts (BC Marketplace) Just my two pence - or $20 NZD or whatever the exchange rate is...
 24. I believe this is what is now shipping with the American Standard series instruments from 2013 on-wards... http://www.fender.com/en-NZ/accessories/cases/abs-molded-precision-bassjazz-bass-case-black/ They still have SKB cases with the Deluxe series, for now.
 25. I have a 1997 American Deluxe P and I haven't had any shielding issues. Plays brilliantly, no buzz or hiss. My only complaint is the weight - I want it to be heavier (where's the sense of value?!)
