No idea about the science but two 2x10s stacked vertically really do seem to do the job. I'd love to give two 2x15's a go.
+1 Sounded brilliant with the Micro VR and 2x 210 cabs any time I've gigged it Also, are we having juice or punch to go with the cake? -
I've got a few - some have the stripe, some don't. There is huge variation in the weights too. My sunburst one weighs hardly anything whereas my (formerly) Oly white one is the heaviest bass I've EVER lifted! And it's definately a CBS era production.

New Amp Day!!! (2nd in less than a fortnight)
basshead56 replied to basshead56's topic in Amps and Cabs
I know, I've said that I've vanquished GAS before, but I honestly think it's true this time. haha
That was a stunning deal for you, nice one.
Cheers mate. I do love being a bit of a jammy git in these kinda deals (that's how I got my Marshall VBA too!) -

I love BIG amps (look at my sig) But, it totally depends on the gig for me. I no longer have any roadies or a big gear van, so can't bring my new Mesa 8x10 around to many places (hence why I'm after a smaller cab to match the M-Pulse,so I'm covered for all occasions) but totally would if I could. On the flipside, my Ampeg Micro VR and 2 210 cabs fit in the boot of my old VW golf and covered everything bar outdoor/open-air gigs. I did use PA support on 2 occasions with it, but that was the sound-tech's idea-it defiantely did not need it. Some of the newer lightweight stuff does sound bloody huge too, like MarkBass Orancge Terror and GenzBenz etc But nothing says badass rock n'roll like a big rig (SVT and 8x10/Marshall Stack etc) -
So... After bagging a major bargain on a 90's Ampeg SVT III and 410he rig, I really thought: "Done pretty well here, gonna be hard to top." I was right, it was hard to top, but like I often do, I tried my luck on a trade and it paid off in spades! I managed to swap it (almost straight - bought 100quid from me on top of the Ampeg) for a Mesa Boogie M-Pulse 600 & Powerhouse 8x10! Can't believe my luck, but the guy really liked my Ampeg! Less than a month ago I was using a Fender Rumble 100, had my Ampeg for a short time and now I'm in Mesa country and I LOVE IT!!! Ridiculous volume and power, nice clear mids and highs and of course, trouser-flapping bass!!! Downside, I now don't have a practice amp (miss my Ampeg Micro VR back home!!!!) so will have to track down a smaller cab to lug around Upside- it's a freakin Mesa Boogie big-rig!!! I can now say - Amp GAS truly gone FOREVER!!! (Wicked gear in both hemispheres!) Will post pics later.

I'm wondering the same myself. Literally just gotten an M-pulse 600 and Powerhouse 8x10 (another paper-clip trade pays off!) and i'm looking for a small(er) Mesa Cab i can bring to rehearsal/medium gigs. I think the 210 should be sweet for that though...

Hi guys. I've got an SVT III non pro sitting here. i know most of the basic stuff about it (from around 91, 3 tube-pre same as SVT II, 200 @ 8ohms, etc) First of all, anyone on here played/own/owned one? What's your take on them? I've had heaps of Ampegs since I started, some great which I've kept - 4PRO, Micro VR etc, some average (a 2009 SVT-VR- hugely disappointed!) and some much less brilliant ones (including the 3PRO which I really hated!) and I have to say, I honestly LOVE the tone. it's big and very, um, AMPEG-y. It's certainly got enough power for what I'm doing, going through a 410HE (from the same year). Having not gotten on with a 3PRO in the past I was very sceptical about this amp, but after a bit of a play, it was obvious that this is a totally different animal altogether. granted-it's nowhere near as powerful as my US made 4PRO I know, but it sounds 'big' in that it nails that SVT sound. I really like the 1odb Eq slider- gives a serious volume boost, not that it needs it-I've not had the vlume past 9/10 O 'clock! .... But that's me, anyone find the same/opposite etc? Second thing is: anyone have a copy of the manual? I got everything except that... Cheers Colin

Hi guys, I picked up a bargain the other day an Ampeg SVT III and 410he (both 90's made) for about 450 pounds. I had a 3-PRO a few years ago (didn't get on with it) and i have a 4-PRO back in Ireland (which I love), but the SVT III is a beast of an amp. So much SVT goodness! The matching cab is also great-never owned a Classic 410he before but always liked them. (had a pair of BSE 410HLFs - they were great!) Only issue with the rig is that the attenuator knob for switching on or off is missing from the back of the cab. I'd like to be able to switch it on and off depending on what kind of room I'm playing so... Anyone got any ideas how I can get in there? Does anyone have a replacement they want rid of? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys Cheers, Colin

Emmett is a great guy to deal with He bought a set of 73 Precision pups, pots, wiring and pickguard from me. He was great to deal with from start to finish (even though we are both at opposite ends of the globe NZ-Scotland). Another reason why BC rocks - fantastic, friendly users. The lads from Cork always stick together! Cheers mate. Colin
Being a massive Lynott fan I can safely say that ive never seen, or read, or heard about Lynott playing a sunburst bass. As far as i know he played the legendary black fenders, the red one (thats pictured earlier) and a BC rich bass (although that might have only be in the video for "do anything you wanna do") and an Ibanez Roadstar (i think) That doesnt say that he didnt own one - according to many books, his first ever bass was a Fender P Bass given to him by Brush Shiels, but nobody ever said what it was. However, the Phil Lynott Exhibition in Dublin bought out this gem..http://www.flickr.co...gle/5588262767/ but i doubt it would ever be for sale, and theres no history behind it - it could just have been a donated bass for the exhibition that was signed. I guess though, that if you do the usual checks, and it seems fine - then ignore the history and offer what you think its worth, and go from there.
He used an Ampeg/Dan Armstrong too
Thanks basshead56. I would have loved it if you'd said you remember a SB Precision but still interesting information. Frank.
Hi Frank, Yeah mate, wish I could've been able to verify that for you-as an avid 70's Precision and Thin Lizzy fan, I'm right there with you!
Yeah, Redding used to live in Clonakilty, a stone's throw from Skibbereen...as a teenager I'd see him lurking around pubs trying to bum weed from kids...
My mum's from Castlehaven (down the road from Noel's old place- she used to go and see him play on Friday nights) There's a signed "West Cork Tuning' LP at home somewhere too I'm sure. Jeremy Irons also owns a castle around there too- West Cork- like Hollywood, but with more hippies! Kinda homesick now.haha

That was on Adverts.ie about 3 years ago for 150 euros! I missed it. gutted.
Wasn`t a Ibby Blazer his main back up bass? Sure I read something about it a couple of years ago. I suppose with a touring "name band" there could be a number of back ups. Would be nice to own something Phil played though. Jez
+1 Definately a blazer. I played with a drummer a few years ago who had done a wee bit with Phil in his younger days (3 or 4 sessions I think). He had a photo holding 2 of Phil's basses in his house, another with Phil and another with Philomena (Phil's mom) from a few years ago. I definately remember the blk/maple/mirror Precision and the Blazer from that photo. Would be sweet if the P Bass was the real deal though. hope it goes well

Fender Bassman 135 - gonna hold out for a Terror
basshead56 replied to basshead56's topic in Amps and Cabs
[sup]Thanks Gareth.[/sup] [sup]I'm more stuck on impedance issues at the mo re the Vs212. I have seen an LB212 but it's a little out of my price range at the mo.[/sup] [sup]Pity that the Vs212 isn't 50lbs- I could do with less weight in my amp set up.[/sup] -
EDIT Now decided to go with a Terror- if I can find one. Anyone got one they would consider parting with and wouldn't mind sending to New Zealand? I am considering an Ashdown Vs212 to go with it. They look great and I'm a fan of 12's, since I've owned my 2 Marshall VBC412's. Also, I see that the Vs212 is twice the weight of the LB212 - can I at least add castors (are there holes for them already on there?) Thanks guys Colin

Thanks for those Mark! I've allready checked and the PG will fit fine! Am thinking an American Vintage brass bridge will fit the bill nicely and have found a source for the right knobs, pup/bridge covers etc- good prices too. I'll post some pics in the next few days, once I actually get round to starting!lol Cheers Colin
