1.
I can't help you as to whether the 77 pickguard will fit, but I do have a 73 Precision (the sunburst one in my avatar), so if you need any details checking, or any photos sending through, give me a shout.
That would be brilliant! I'd love some close-ups of the bridge and hardware.
2. Hi all, Have recently got me mits on a 73 Precision that's seen better days. Because she's not mint or even close, I've decided to have a go at getting her closer to what I've been after for a long time- an early 70's black/black/maple beast with a few mods. Currently, it's got a faded oly white finish with plenty of mojo, shell pg, frets are good, non original brass bridge, original pups (tone pot's a bit crackly) and recessed knobs (now identified-from a Telefunken radio) Pics here: http://s1174.photobucket.com/albums/r609/col_keane/ See? looks fairly abused, doesn't it? So... I'm going to strip her down to the wood and have a mate (who does a lot of paint jobs) refinish in black. Tick I already have a b/w/b pg from a 77 I didnt need lying around. Tick I'm considering popping in a set of Duncan SPB-3's in place of the original pups. Tick (they're in the post!) replace the current bridge and knobs (?) Tick (also in post) also add a thumbrest and chrome covers. My questions/issues I need help with... What sort of bridge can I put on that will allow the cover to fit on (the current one won't) and where to get it? (going with a vintage Fender one) Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Colin
3. Really keen on a Terror now. Any chance you'd ship to New Zealand?
4. Well, the gods have spoken. picked up the MH Precision the other day. It was immaculate, save for a tiny ding/chip on the upper bout by the strap pin. Sounded wicked-as they do! The guy even threw in a 30w amp, cables, strap and Hercules stand. So went to the place where the DC was a-hangin' on the wall and asked about a trade. The owner offered me the DC and 250 NZD (125quid)- result!!! I was not going to argue, considering I only paid less than 200 quid for it! Now, I know he'll get a fair bit more for it when he re-sells it, but I'm not bothered: I've got a great deal- an 'always wanted one' bass for abot 75 quid!. He chucked on some new Dunlop strings, polished it up and off I went on my merry way-straight home to plug her in and crank it! I LOVE the Danelectro DC, it's light, has a super-thin and fast neck and looks amazing-loving the cheap plastick stack knobs, one's black with white cap, the other's the opposite-classic! Oh yeah and the best bit, it sounds fantastic-the EXACT sound I was after for what I'm doing down here at the mo! I'll try and get some pics up soon. Thanks to all you guys for advice-as always, it has been greatly appreciated
5. Hi guys. First off, Merry Christmas to all of you here on BC, hope you had a great one! Ok, so I am currently in the 'basses are like buses' situation again. I'm in the market for a bass I can bring with me if I have to head overseas to OZ, and not worry too much if something happens to it. I just bid on (and won) a Mark Hoppus P Bass in Seafoam Green- the older model, not the new one, thank god (I just mean the new green colour sucks, I'm actually quite keen to try the new one to see what the pup rotation sounds like!). Anyways, no sooner have I forked out than a walk into the local music shop puts me in two minds again! Hanging on the wall, as part of a trade in, a korean reissue Danelectro DC in silver sparkle! Now, i paid very little money for the Fender (198 pounds to be exact!), so im not skint, but I can't own both for a number of reasons-transport when i leave NZ being the biggest argument against it-as I already have a 77 Precision and a Victor Bailey Acoustic to worry about. I already have a Pink MH sig P back in Ireland, and I LOVE the sound of it, plus it's the lightest bass I own! Have done 100s of gigs with it and never had an issue. BUT....... I have always wanted a DC! They look and sound so unique! And I have been looking for one for bloody ages. AND In typical fashion, I find one in a shop in the middle of nowhere when all I went in for was some picks-not even considering another GAS-attack! So Poll Time: What would you guys go with a) keep the Fender trade it in for the Dano c) none of the above! Thanks in advance guys, and have a Happy New Year! Col
6. Still for sale Wayne?
7. Hi Chris, Still for sale? Any chance it could be shipped with the neck off to New Zealand?
8. Would you ship with the neck off to New Zealand?!
9. Dammit! I move to New Zealand and there is a spree of fender Kingman basses for sale at home! And I really need an acoustic bass here!!!
10.
I've got a German Corvette, Mine's built like a tank.
Surely that's built like a Panzer! haha Yeah, tried both. Wasn't keen on the Rick so much as the Warwick- but someone else beat me to the Warwick. Another of the same model came up for a similar price but I think I may change tack altogether and put some money aside for a Fender Acoustic Bass of some sort or a G&L L2000 tribute. Anyone got either of these they'd be willing to ship to NZ? haha
11. A Dingo took my power supply! Thanks so far guys. Shep, I should point out that I have a psu for the Supersynth-the one that came with it when I bought it. So would a Boss PSA240/30 through the TU-2 power the Bass VT Deluxe?
12. Ok, having thought about it, I may just run all the 9v's from a boss PSU (through the tuner) and power the 9v VT Bass and 12v Super Synth using their own dedicated supplies. What do you guys think?
13. As it says in the title, am looking at both basses, but know very little about either if I'm totally honest. Played a few Warwicks in the past (albeit briefly) and not really sure. I think this one's German, but will have to check. I do know its got 2 band act/pas eq and jazz style MEC's The Ricky on the other hand- I know SFA about. Anyone got any experience of them What's a fair price for each model? Will have to make up my mind fast though! lousy indecision... ( If it was a Fender or Gibson I'd be fine )
14. Hi guys, Now that I've sorted out how I'm gonna run my effects loop, I'm wondering about power supply units. Is there one power supply I can use that will power my Boss Tu-2 tuner, Fender Sublime bass fuzz, Tech21 VT Bass Deluxe (all 9v, though VT Bass Deluxe manual says 100mA minimum) and my Markbass Super Synth which i think is 12v? For example, would this be suitable, considering I'm on a budget at the mo Not sure about mA, voltages etc etc Any help appreciated. If anyone has one that'll do the job they want to sell me, I'd be happy to chat Cheers, Col
15. Hi guys, First post in quite a while! I have just started putting together a very basic set-up here in NZ- 77 Precision, Fender Rumble 100. Effects wise I've got a Markbass Supersynth and a Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe on a Coffin Case board. I am also looking at getting a Boss Tu-2 tuner. My question is- what is the best way to run the effects? I plan on using the effects loop of the amp as much as possible, but not sure which way round. Also keen on the idea of adding a loop station at some point. Any help would be greatly appreciated (Really missing my Ampeg and Marshall rigs and my Bad Mutha Board-which had all my effects prewired and recessed into a case-just had to plug into a boss PSM going back to the effects loop!)
16. Hey to all. Haven't been on in ages but had to contribute to the PF500 issue as no one here seems to have gotten a go with one. Well, just back from Wellington in the land down-under-er and I had a chance to play one with matching 210 cab while I was in Rockshop there. All I can say is-wow! First off, I'd never even heard of these-didn't know Ampeg had started a new line, though i had seen some stuff re a limited US made Portaflex combo. Second i went in to try a tech 21 VT (still need one if anyone has one!) saw this wee amp and cab sitting in the back and thought-gotta try that! Picked up a HW1 P Bass and awy I went. Serious boomage! Definately Ampeg tone. Really decent EQ. Heaps of bells and whistles on it. It really was great and at what i worked out as circa 500euros (999NZD) serious bang for the buck. The look is seriously retro and the cool little led light up top is a nice touch too. the fliptop bit is sweet too-saves on cases and transport mishaps I guess. I bought a Micro VR from a fellow BCer last year and of all my gear back home, I miss that the most. But I reckon i may go for the PF500 in a few weeks... Will let you know. Cheers, Col
17. You are of course correct-something I only discovered recently (very recently). Apologies, good sir
18. Ive got 2 (1 VERY) big rigs, a small rig and a combo for my EUB But they're all at the other side of the globe at the mo down under-er, I have just got a Fender Rumble 100 (the second one I've owned) and a P Bass- does the trick nicely!
19.
Yes, they stopped maing them a few years ago. Can't remember how much they were new but the 4 strings go for about £6-700 which is a bit odd as you can usually pick up a second hand neckthrough one for about £800ish
The Studio's are neck through. I have a IV and V- the IV retailed in Ireland for circa 1300 euros and the V was 1480 (still have the tag for that in the case) However, I got both mine second hand and paid around 500 for the IV and 600 for the V Hope that helps
20. I use mine with a 610HLF- AMAZING!!!! You could probably pick one up for around 600-700 on here or the bay. I've lost two of those cables so far-they can be easily made up (using better cable even) in mere minutes. Enjoy man, they are big, bad and very beautiful
21. Marshall are, by all accounts a great bunch to deal with. Haven't heard any real horror stories about customer service yet. Fair play, especially when they make such great amps.
22. I use two of the 4 78 Precisions I have all the time 1 of the others I only take out of its case for recording and its 99% mint The other is waiting for me in New Zealand-at least I hope it is (my mate's in Christchurch!) Still, I'm not really fussed about using them live (except the sienna burst one-as I said, I like to keep that in reserve for recording). The reasons I dont mind taking them out and using them as the workhorses they were meant to be, are: A) I got them for how they sound and how well they play (if I'm honest-looks were a factor too) B ) Even if they pick up a bit of mojo along the way, they will still be valuable in a few years time- collectors are always about!
23. Tina Weymouth from Talking heads was quite good at it. I´d love to be able to play the synth bass properly, but have only had a chance to noodle on one (a Bass Station) a few times
24. My A***g Micro VR sounds amazingly like an S*T and it weighs about as much as an envelope. I feel kind of dirty and ashamed now... did I do something wrong?!
25.
My faith in humanity has been restored.
And mine in luthiery
