I like the idea of that but would prefer Bluetooth headphones

I'm about to buy a Boss Waza Air bass system too. Been wanting one for ages, as with a 2yr old in the house, the amount of time I can play through an amp or even be in my Jamnasium (the room next door to his) is rather limited. I actually think it will make me play more, especially being an all-in-one tool. Was reluctant to splash out the full retail amount on a set but there is a good deal on with the local distributor at the moment and having just sold a couple of surplus-to-requirement Squiers, I can justify it to myself (and the missus) lol

My 73 Precision creeps in. Though the pickup is long gone, replaced with a dimarzio 60's.

What does your signature bass look like?
basshead56 replied to Steve Browning's topic in Bass Guitars
Some ideas I've always fancied for a Sig model: An early 2000's style American Deluxe Jazz 4 string (same as my QMT) but in a cool black burst/swirl (silvery cloud-esque and similar QMT finish) with gold hardware, Ebony fretboard with pearl blocks and white binding, Matching Headstock with gold logo -as per my QMT, noiseless pickups, Sadowsky Preamp and a Hipshot extender on the E (The necks on my QMT and Victor Bailey 4 are easily the nicest Jazz necks I've ever played) so definitely would have that at least! A 70's Style P Bass in Sherwood green with matching headstock, pearloid pickguard, ebony fretboard with pearl blocks and binding, Bridge from one of the eighties P Bass Elites (Think they were Schaller Fine-Tuning bridges?) , Vintage 60's style pickup with overwind. Aria SB1000 in Starry Night ala EBMM with all black hardware and hipshot xtender on E A Fender-branded Rascal (not sure if i want the 3 lipstick pup or the Squier Paranormal wide-range 'buckers) in silver sparkle or Mercury silver w matching headstock with a black pickguard, rosewood board, pearl blocks AND a Darkglass AO preamp ala the Darkray -activated via S-1 Switch and toggled with a chickenhead knob on the upper bout Oh and I'd probably have LED fretmarkers or some of those luminlay dots (that have appeared on the Am Ultra 2 series Fenders) on all of the above -
Thank you all for your help. Only the smallest of tweaks was required in the end. The Victor Bailey Jazz is now ever so slightly sweeter again!

Hey all, just wondering about pickup height/distance from strings. I've noticed all my jazz basses seem to have the pickups set at different heights. Is there a standard height? do people raise or lower them by much? Noticed (what i would deem) a rather large gap in particular on my Victor Bailey Jazz Also guessing this is why it seems much quieter than than the others lol

I am so enamoured with my EBMM Darkray in Obsidian black but I would trade it in a second for a Starry Night finished one! Excellent score there mate!

Where did you order the amp from originally,Marty? I'm in Southland NZ and would love a Quilter

Yet another new Fender Artist Series Signature...
basshead56 replied to basshead56's topic in Bass Guitars
I know what you mean. Never saw the point of all that wasted space. I had (until Feb this year) one of the original Japanese Jag basses in hot Rod Red and it was a thing of absolute beauty. It was such a versatile instrument. Makes me wonder why the short-lived US versions didn't sell so well. Mine was a case-queen and I really wished i'd used it more. Only moved it on as a part-trade to get to my QMT Deluxe Jazz. -
Looks like Mr Hoppus has yet another updated sig this time in JAG (not Jaguar) fashion I know there were limited runs of his last model that you could buy directly from his site (HMNIM) but not through Fender. Looks pretty cool. I still have my MK1 in Shell Pink but heavily reliced. I absolutely adore it. I played a MK2 with the reverse pickup config when they came out and really like it too but never committed to buying one. Love the look of the Jaguar-shaped models he's had for the last few years

The minefield that is EB MM Sterlings (not stingray!)
basshead56 replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
Saw this a few days ago... Roger Lima from Less Than Jake took delivery of a brand new EBMM Sterling. Pretty sure the Sterling is only available as a custom order direct from factory at the moment. They periodically have them in and out of production runs. My understanding is they are currently not in production (mass production) and are awaiting a facelift akin to the Stingray coming out as the Stingray Special. I know I read that somewhere earlier this year on one of the EBMM forums. Someone there seemed to think they were supposed to come back as Specials last year but no dates were confirmed. I guess wait till NAMM and see... -
The SUB was easily one of the best value for money instruments ever made! I've owned two, still have one and I ADORE them. I wish i had never sold the first one but super lucky to have found my current one for a bargain price. Solid piece of kit that I cant fault. Hard working and hard-wearing, it's an easy choice for live work.

I think it's more a case of leaving some things at home, rather than bring them to the party - namely weight. Matt Freeman has a new touring Precision bass that he had Fender knock together for him (based on an American Pro II) and it too has a chambered body to add resonance and remove weight. Also, not 100% sure, but I thought I read that Keanu Reeves has a chambered body on a couple of his P basses too.

I have a 77 Precision in blue that has a mirror pg on it and never found it to be all that bad for fingerprints, but I guess everyone plays differently so it could well be an issue for some.

NGL, I absolutely love the look and sounds of this thing. Yeah it's a tad disco but dayum 😍😍 https://www.fender.com/en-US/electric-basses/jazz-bass/limited-player-plus-x-blu-detiger-jazz-bass/0149410376.html

How do you keep track of everything you've owned?
basshead56 replied to BassAgent's topic in Bass Guitars
I've kept a running list (in chronological order) for all the basses and amps i've owned. I just strikethrough whatever has been moved on. Just has the model, year and colour on it. Fun fact - my recently acquired Victor Bailey Jazz marks bass number 50 - a good place to stop, right? Funnily enough though, last weekend, I decided to record a bit more detail (for insurance etc) so I photographed everything (including serial numbers, any unique wear or marks and case)) and made a spreadsheet with all the details. I plan to also record when each bass has had a setup or new strings on the sheet. -
Definitely a Guild B-301

Typical, I finally buy an American Pro II and they discontinue the model and swap it out for a Pro III within a week 🤣🤣🤣 Will be interesting to see if it's a discontinuation or a way to shift unsold stock. Given it's the Big "F", i'm picking there may well be something 'new' coming. New V-Mod pickups or maybe the Cobalts, new version of the same bridge and new colours. Maybe a new case too... I'm sure all will be revealed in due course...

Updated last week. Bought 4 Jazz basses this year and sold 1. Pretty good net gain I reckon. Don't think I'll be buying another bass for a very, very long time...

Ohhhhh, i like the look of these. Will these be Japanese or Korean (samick) made, like my SB-CB (which is one of the best instruments I have ever owned!) ?
-
Looks like a Squier VM Precision with a dodgy Fender decal (or the body and aftermarket neck at very least) The truss rod access looks off and the fact it has a cheaper looking 'Duncan Design' pickup makes it suss immediately to me. Pretty sure it's one of these... https://images.app.goo.gl/oXmHr9NsPrZghDfL8

Another +1 for the VBA!!! When the weight of the mighty SVT is just not enough to break a venue and one's back!!! I run mine with two VBC412's and it is a terrifyingly-powerful, heavy monster. And the SVT is pretty good too 😋😋
