They look a bit like Ampeg SVT PRO series knobs Maybe try LOUD Technologies?

I used to always bring a second bass as back-up, but have never needed it, So now I just bring a Precsion with me and hope I dont pop a string or something like that. I dont see the need to switch between basses at a small/local gig. I think thats more of a Stadium-type thing when guys have roadies and racks of basses to choose from, e.g. Mark Hoppus from Blink182/+44 switches basses after every song or 2- crazy!

Cool. was just wondering which drivers you used. The micro is fantastic. amazing sounding little thing. serious amp! Cheers Drew, Col

My brother drove over my brand new L2000. Help!!!
basshead56 replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
It is either one of two things IMO: 1) The weight of the car on top and pressing down on the bass has caused the intonation to go out. It is possible that the bridge saddles may have been pulled further forward, as well as the increased pressure on the tuning machines, thus causing serious strain. but a setup and possibly new strings may see it working again 2) As above, but the weight has bowed/warped the neck a fair bit. Either way, you will know for sure when the tech has a good look at her. I really hope its just a bridge issue man, honestly. Best of luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too! -
Just don´t try it would be my advice, best not risk your health and the health of your equipment. Invest in a headphone amp (samson or behringer have offerings in the 30quid bracket) and take a line out from your DI output (one of the reasons it´s there in the first place) You should only use headphones in dedicated headphone outputs.

what was the first number you gigged on a bass ?
basshead56 replied to essexbasscat's topic in General Discussion
Halloween night 2000. My first ever gig. We had 3 songs: Screamager by Therapy? Song 2 by Blur Something Against You by Pixies Remember being more nervous than I've ever been in my life (but I still die of nerves before EVERY show) It was over in 10 mins, but playing it felt like an hour! One of the weirdest but happiest nights of my life -
I assume you've had it set up properly for this? The tension on the truss rod will be a lot different which could be part of the problem
+1! Get the bridge and truss rod sorted and all sould be ok, though I always prefer something active or very bright/hot in the pickup department when down tuning, as my passive P basses tend to just sound muddy and confused. Mind you I´ve only had to do it (drop c) twice and both times were in the studio only, so had the bass set up specifically for that purpose.

lets get it on-marvin gaye. its simple, sexy and loads of fun to play.

depending on working condition and cosmetic condition it could be worth anything from 425 to 900 (going by ones I've seen sell on eBay) Hope that helps. PS they are lovely sounding amps! If they had the power of the VBA400, they would be perfect!

Haven´t really owned a bad one. But my first proper bass (a yamaha rbx170-which I still have) was never set up. The intonation was fine, but the action was massively high! Not knowing any better, that´s how I learned to play. That´s really helped with building up my finger strength and db/eub playing though! Still have the original strings on it and its still in the same state iit was when it left the factory, just dustier! I did have an Epiphone EBO for a week, but couldn´t get on with it. It would never hold tuning and sounded very lightweight, so moved it on.

Nice one Drew! Sounds like lke you´re onto a winner there. Thats a bargain, even with the work that needed doing. Are the the drivers 6 or 6.5 inch?
Yes, because I don't like stingrays
+1 Hence why I had my only Stingray for sale/trade within a fortnight of getting it. Pity, cause they look amazing, just not a fan of the sound. Now, if I had the opportunity to trade it for a Black, maple-boarded Sadowsky jazz 5, ala Mr Newsted, I would in a heartbeat! But from looking at the Sadowsky above, I think I would for that too!

Hi guys, a friend of mine is considering moving on his 1976 Fender Jazz. It was oly white, more faded cream now, tort guard. It has the typical bound and blocked rw board, bullet-truss and 3 bolt neck plate. It has had one mod-the pups were swapped out for EMG actives some years ago and so it has had a battery box fitted (looks very well done) The stock pups have vanished. There is no original hardcase either A few chips and dings (eg tiny corner of the pickguard has chipped off where it meets the control plate) and wear marks- fairly common for a bass of this age that´s been gigged week in-week out. Seems to play fine. In terms of weight, its not the lightest (but weighs far less than my ´SID´ 78 Precision!) So what´s a fair price for this lovely bit of lumber? I am not really a fan of Jazzes and know more about P basses, so will leave this to the relevant BC authorities EDIT: description updated

Thinking of trying a new amp (micro/small amp) - From MB to?
basshead56 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Ampeg SVT Micro rig? Some great tonal possibilities, really does the SVT sound too and weighs nowt! 200watts using two cabs and has all the ins outs etc you mentioned (headphone out, aux in etc). No mute switch though. Definately the best small rig I have owned or used. -
I have a black 3 ply P-type pckguard lying about u can have Pretty sure there are some spare cables and a tuner lying about too. pm me if you want em

Problem with mobile phone interference with one specific bass
basshead56 replied to Mike's topic in General Discussion
I had a sort of releated problem that worked out nicely A few years ago, I was in my room in the flat and playing my Precision Lyte through my ashdown mini stack. Got a text off a mate asking to borrow something. So, put the bass down on the bed and left the phone beside it. Went to look for whatever (book or cd i think) came back in, sat down on the bed and must´ve pressed the music player button on the phone. I dont know why (must be the active pups and preamp, but Misfits songs started coming out of the amp! Delighted and confused, I put the phone right up to the J pup (tone and trebs up max on the bass and up halfway on the amp) to test it out, and sure enough, loud and clear as a bell-music coming out of the amp! Messed about with it a bit and bought a dictaphone, recorded some samples (talkey intro stuff from films and documentaries) and now keep it on hand for the electronica stuff- just hit play and push it right up to the rear pup-saved a fortune on a rack sampler/synth -
I think if you´re playing in different bands with varying styles, it´s good to have different sounds. I´m playing with a few bands and projects at the moment and with each one I use different gear and EQ settings. One of these is an onlne only band-just recording and no live shows. The style is sort of indie I guess For this, I use my siennaburst 78 Fender Precision (which I´ve been using as a studio only bass) going straight into the VBA400 and one VBC 4x12. Lots of low end and mids-thick and heavy. Another project I´m working on with my drummer is a sort of electronica-type set up. For that, I use my Precison Deluxe, going into my Ampeg SVT 4PRO and 610 HLF with my effects board (comprising of various EHX boxes) in the effects loop. I use both the MM type bridge pup, and the P, with the tone on full and the treble boost on too. I set the EQ to sound brighter when using the effects (via the EQ IN/OUT switch on the amp) and rounder when not in use-though usually I have at least one effect running most of the time. The reason I go for the brighter sound is that the synth player tends to occupy the bottom end most of the time and uses a microkorg and vocoder for all the wackier top end stuff. With the indie band I occasionally play with, I use my Gibson Thunderbird Studios (IV and V) and my Marshall (half or full stack depnding on venue), with no effects. the sound of the band is very influenced by the likes of The Breeders, Belly, Kings of Leon and Arcade Fire etc, so I try and get as much bottom end and low mid as I can, and the TBird delivers growl and rumble in spades. I usually have the neck pup on full and bridge under half. The EQ on the amp for this set up is quite simple, Bass at 2/3, mids just past 12 o clock and the treble at 12. I use the contour switch on the VBA400-set to to 3 and have the deep switch engaged too. I also play in a backing band for a country/rockabilly duo, so usually take out a Precision and put that through my small amp, which is now an SVT Micro rig (gigs are small to medium pubs and always DI´ed). Last weekend I got to take out my brown sunburst/maple 78 P and SVT Micro with the two 210 cabs for the first time-gorgeous sound and got plenty of questions/compliments about tone and gear afterwards. Had the gain at 9 O clock and the eq almost flat (just rolled back the mid slightly and boosted the bass a little) and the master volume under halfway-more than enough-didnt really need to bring the second 2x10, but hey, they look class! The main band I play with now is a punk-pop trio. For that I use the Mark Hoppus sig P bass, straight into my 4PRO and 610HLF. The MH is a bright enough sounding bass, with plenty of mids, so I tend to leave the EQ close to flat, maybe boost the low end. And with only a volume knob, it´s pretty much plug and play. The sound is seriously rich and full, so the guitar sits nicely on top of it, no need for much else. guess it really depends on what you want to sound like. For what I´m doing at the mo, I´m very happy with the sounds I get. Only downer is I can´t bring any of my amps down under with me
