All mine now: " class="ipsImage" /> Serious bottom end and wicked highs-all thanks to the magic of Mono-Bridge!!! Fantasy rig now complete! Thanks guys!

No. For those exact reasons, I let it go. I still really want one of these though! A 70's Black & maple Precision would be the ultimate cure for my GAS!!! It continues to elude me.

Update; Before and after Ampeg goodness! The B500DR has moved on, Replaced by an SVT 4PRO (USA built) " class="ipsImage" /> " class="ipsImage" /> " class="ipsImage" /> " class="ipsImage" /> Look what arrived today " class="ipsImage" /> Mono-bridged SVT 4PRO through an SVT 610HLF (US made) in custom road case! Must pop the SVT into the rack case with the Tuner, but you get the idea! In terms of amps and basses-I am one happy Basshead indeed!!!

Have been meaning to put this up for AGES! So took a pic today while waiting for the new cab to arrive... Bootsy has the 'Space Case' so here's what I call the 'Bad-Mutha-Board': " class="ipsImage" /> Cant find the other pic I had. Me and my mate put this together using some Stanley blades and High-Density Foam. Its in a lift off case, with all the wiring set under the foam. Use a PSM to run the effects loop of the amp. Have a rack tuner but always good to be prepared.

Yeah, had guessed that the pg wasn´t a factory thing-only the Steve Harris sig eaves with a mirror. I qute like the mirror thing actually. Maybe I´ll throw in a cheeky bid.

Been watching this since day one. Would love an early 70's blk/blk/mpl Precision. Price seems ok, so why no bids yet me wonders? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Just realised I´ve not done an intro yet. Hi to all. I´m from the south of Ireland. Been playing since I was about 16 or so. Have been steadily working around school, two bouts of Uni (undergrad and post-grad) and a current part tme job. Have played in some great bands (and some awful ones too) Currently playing in 3 and enjoying every mnute. Started on a Yamaha RBX170 (still have it9 and have gone through a ton of Fenders-which I love. Currently got a few 70´s Precisions which I adore. Am a devout Fender and Ampeg follower-best sounding combination to my ears. I love buying and trading gear, its become a major hobby and I take great enjoyment from surprising/boring my bandmates with my latest finds. Though after this weekend, I hope to be GAS free for a VERY LONG time! I also doodle on sax (spent 5 years as a kid playing alto) and the dreaded rythm guitar! Gutarwise, I am a Gretsch-head and love that twang and growl you can only really get from thos pups! That speaks to my love of Rockabilly music I guess. Recently started back on the upright (had a few lessons in the school band) and am rehearsing for an hour every day lately and loving it. Just had a set up done on my Palatino (bought here on BC) and started jamming with some friends with a view to setting up another rockabilly band Found the Double/EUB threads a great help. I will have been using Basschat nearly a year now and I have to say, it has been amazing so far. Have bought some basses, an EUB and some amps and bits here. Also sold my first bass internationally here too. This site is a fantastic resource and that is due to the community involved -made up of great, friendly and helpful people. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out here so far, and look forward to talking some more with you all Cheers, Col
That's it. There is probably a lot less people with a lot less high end gear to trade with, or sell anything onto some one wants to pay a nic price for it. That guy with 78 P. What a fool. Probably just thought he was getting 2 basses for 1. If I could find someone selling fender 400 pro for 325 I would snap that up.
that was the other 78-the siennaburst one. I think his point at the time was that it´d be easier to shift two cheaper basses than one expensive. Can´t argue with that logic- The 400 Pro was one wicked amp. The Semi-para EQ section was amazing. I had the one with the fender rack tuner built in. miss that amp a bit actually. If I could find a(nother) cheap one, I´d buy it again as a back up, in a heartbeat!

Amp without speakers connected, is that ok?
basshead56 replied to davidmpires's topic in Amps and Cabs
As far as know, if an amp has a solid-state power output section, its fine, but never do that where tubes are concerned. Though preamp tubes and ss output should be fine. -
Unsurprisingly, Glen Danzig likes his groupies to dress as himself.

Yes, I noticed that too. I wonder if they have to be fat and balding now...
And he´s only got 5... Definately don´t want to meet him now- never meet your heroes, you´ll only end up disappointed!
Same really, my current bass rig cost me roughly £250. The epiphone JC only cost me £250. However I would still like to know where Basshead finds these people?
It is sort of strange. Most of the people I deal with over here are either people just looking for a change or, like the guy I bought my Oly White 78 P from- Don´t really know what they have. He was selling it as an 87 and was convinced he was right. Go it for a song, even though I told him once I´d met up to have a look at it. But the fact that it was the week before Christmas and I had travelled to the other side of the country (for a gig) obviously influenced his decision. The Trace Elliot/Boogie 400+ one was very weird. Had gotten this huge monster of a thing that I couldn´t bring to gigs and scared the sh*t out of the guitarists with, next to my old Fender 400 Pro rig. So decided to advertise it for sale in a nationwide ads paper. No luck shifting it for months and I had given up and then this guy from the other end of the country rings and said he needed a big bass amp for a studio he had built. He said he didn´t have any money but could offer me a few trades. I said sure and he left hs house within the hour. 5hours later he arrives (round 12 at night) with a van load of bass stuff. He had a pearl Vorg ric copy but the neck was wonky, a Gibson Sg bass (old) and a 400+-did a straight swap for that, despite the obvious difference in cost-value is a different matter! Didn´t get on with the 400+ at all, so shifted it rather quickly, for a tidy sum indeed-got an Ampeg and a few other bits with some decent money left over! Guess Ireland is just a rather lucky place to be when it comes to equipment
my first stack was a laney r4, which was the fore runner to the rb9
Me too. Great budget stack! and seriously loud! Can´t recommend it enough. There are the usual suspects in this area too- Ashdown MAG stuff, Marshall B, but for the money- get yourself either the laney, or even better, some Trace Elliot gear. Its mean, green and ugly, but no one can argue with the very loud bang for the buck! Try the marketplace section here on BC-there are some seriously good bargains to be had. Trace Elliot stuff is the best value for money overall, IMO Best of luck, Colin

Recently been sorting out all my GAS issues and nearly all has come from some very lucky dealings and trades. For example- I paid 325 euros for a Fender 400 PRO head-traded it for a Marshall TSL100 head and 1960A cab- traded that for a VBA400 halfstack (fully cased)- no money along the way. Also, bought an old Trace Elliot 8x10 combo thing (no idea what it was) for 300 euros-traded it for a Mesa Boogie 400+, a week later, sold it for a very good price bought an Ampeg amp and a 2nd US made BSE410HLF, with a bit of change left. Traded some nice basses: a) one of my Precision Lyte´s for a Gibson Thunderbird Studio V (my only 5er) two Fender MIM basses for a 78 Precision (still can´t believe that one!!!) and sold a few (CIJ 70´s RI Precsion, CIJ Mustang and MM SUB) with the intention of using some of the cash for one more bass. Recently got my hands on a US made 4PRO, so traded on my other Ampeg and Phil Jones Briefcase and got a Musicman Stingray out of it Now today have sorted a trade of my T-Bird Studio V for a US made 610 HLF in a live -n roadcase so I can run the 4 PRO in Mono-Bridge mode! And the last bass I buy for a long time (see the link in my sig) I think I have sused-a nice, cheap Gibson T-Bird Studio...IV I think I am, hand-on-heart, done. Anyone else having a good run of things lately with trades etc? I find that trading seems to be more and more popular these days, what with the ´R´ word and all that... Is bartering the new shopping?
Yes, you will be able to run the SVT 4 Pro bridged in to the 610. The bridged power amp, according to the manual is able to drive a 4 Ohm load @ 1200W 'continuous'. In reality, normal bass playing is not able to attain 'continuous' 1200W - The 610 cab will be able to handle 90% of situations - I have to say, having heard the BSE410 and the SVT610 - the 610 seems to sound twice as big, due to that extended bottom end - but - the two 410s are still moving more air, given the extra two speakers. So you could gain with one hand and lose with the other depending on what you want. I have to say, personally I would go for the 610. My mate Stag has one paired with the SVT 5 Pro and it's a beast!
It's as I feared then... Just when my amp GAS seemed quenched! Dood, you are like a wise-learned devil sitting on my shoulder now, but I usually listen to them when it comes to gear anyway I do LOVE the sound of the two BSE cabs-they are HUGE sounding with the 4PRO , but I think I could still get that little bit more from the amp and the 610 seems to be the most practical option at the moment. I will certainly try and get in on it then I reckon, Cheers, Col

Traded my Ampeg B500dr and Phil Jones Briefcase for Drew's 1994 MM Stingray. I had dealt with Drew before here in Ireland, but this was the first time through Basschat and like before, I was not disappointed! The bass was exactly as described-fantastic! He even included the original reciept from when he bought it new! Great communications and very friendly, as ever. A great bloke and a Highly Recommended BC'er! Cheers Drew, Hope you enjoy the amps as much as I'm loving this 'ray! Col
IIRC you can 'MUTE' and switch the EQ in and out with the footswich can't you? In that case - pretty much any two button footswitch with a Stereo 6.3mm plug on the end. A Marshall 2 button switch will suffice - infact - on ebay there's a whole bunch of 'clone' switches available that you can get for under a tenner. Looks like this and are wired like this
thanks Dood, Actually have two of these (Marshall switches) lying around doing nothing, so will plug that in and check it out. One last thing, If I were to run the 4PRO mono bridged with the appropriate speakon cable, would an Ampeg SVT610hlf be able to handle it solo? I understand this feature is ideally intended to be used with the 810 cab, but just wondering if the 610 would cope well enough power-wise? At the moment I am running it in dual mono with a pair of Ampeg BSE410HLF´s-(one out of poweramp A and one out of B ) and it sounds pretty sweet, but a US built 610 (and road-cased) has popped up nearby and Im just wondering if it would be worth taking the punt? Cheers, Col
