1. My current crop of P Basses
2. The gang's all here...
3. Sounds like it's being cooked. Direct sunlight in warm weather and power going through it all add up to putting it under a bit of stress. The cabs themselves are made of quite thin, lightweight material aren't they?
4. I am! I played one in Bungalow Bill's in Auckland about 3 years ago and seriously considered selling a kidney to pay for it. Beautiful bass. Gorgeous neck, very even, smooth tone and the pre was easy to use. It compared quite well to my Baby. Just couldn't justify the price for a back-up. It was a pearl white one and I really wish i had the cash at the time cause it was a proper stunner!
5. 500-600 pounds in the UK I'm guessing, given that a local supplier down here has them online at 1199NZD. Soooooo tempted!
6. Hi All, Does anyone here know if a pickguard from an early 2000's MIM Jazz will fit a 2011 Am. Std Fender Jazz? I have a spare back home in Ireland and am visiting next week, would love to know if it would fit my current Jazz before needlessly taking my old MIM apart. haha
7. Non-valve - probably the best I've owned have been the Ampeg SVT 4PRO (ridiculous amount of power ran mono-bridged) Mesa Mpulse 600 - that was a beauty but far more bells and whistles than I ever needed. I tried a tech 21 1969 in a shop once and loved it but it was crazy expensive. I liked the couple of Genz Benz units I tried too (cant remember which ones they were, definitely Shuttles though) Not so flash: The two Orange Bass terrors I tried - neither seemed to have any real definition to them. Might have been sown to preamp valves or whatever but I wasn't a fan.
8. I adore 'that' sound! Love my SVT-CL to bits. Tried everything else and nothing sounds as nice as a big Ampeg valve sound. I love the sound of my Marshall VBA 400 too, but the SVT just seems to have a touch more oomph - don't know why. I have played a couple of SVT 2's and a 2PRO at various shared stages over the years and they sounded immense! I agree, everyone should own an Ampeg valve amp at some point (until their back gives out anyway!)

Recent trade of my acoustic and a little cash A mint (and I do meant mint!) condition 2006 American Standard Precision w S1 (has 50th Ann. Sticker on the back of the headstock too). Such a beautiful bass. Not too heavy, gorgeous neck, immaculate frets and board and a typically vintage, thumpy pickup. Looks, feels and sounds just like a real P Bass should. Build quality is flawless - a truly stunning instrument!!! Strung with half rounds (never tried them before). I quite like them actually but might spring for some Sunbeams, will see. It sounds stellar blasting through the SVT and fridge and I get some pretty cool old-school, Motown tones from it through the B100R's. Running it through my MXR compressor with the output volume raised and the S1 switch engaged gives it a super funky, scooped slap tone also - quite usable actually. I remember liking the S1 on a Jazz I tried when they came out but never saw the point of them on the Precision. I do now! I was originally after a Highway One or American Special so I wouldn't feel too bad about it being modded or getting dinged up a bit (plus the nitro finish means a bit of mojo would occur soon enough), but to be fair, this was too good a deal to miss out on. Most likely this and the Ray will be my go-to instruments for the foreseeable.
10. 2006 American Standard Precision (with S1) and 2011 American Standard Jazz Both are exceptionally nice basses. If only I could play both at the same time!
11. I've got one in my office. Surprisingly loud for 2w. Simple controls - Volume and tone I am not sure it would hold it's own busking (depending on what other instruments were being used) but it's great for a sneaky jam at work. Also you have to buy the 15v PSU for it separately. BUT - it is an awesome little amp!

my bad, lack of caffeine...
13. I adore my two VBC's, powered by the VBA400. Nothing as trouser-flapping in the known world! Makes the old SVT look and sound a touch anemic! Awesome cabs!

the final frontier
15. I can't love this enough. Is it loud enough to keep up at a gig? Haven't heard a pf50T through two cabs.
16. I love my Fender Victor Bailey sig acoustic. Quite loud acoustically (loudest one I've ever played) but even better with a little wattage. Lovely neck, awesome EQ section. great for jamming on the couch. Beautiful koa wood too. Have gigged it a few times - no buzz, hum or feedback. Perfect for my needs. But I spend more time playing an upright now in situations I would have had the acoustic, so it is mostly a flash ornament nowadays.
17. Hey guys, Got a Warwick Power Pit new a couple of weeks ago for my doubling rig. Only used it maybe 4 times in total and yesterday the E section stopped working (E section is 4 out outputs with combined 500ma) I only had two pedals connected to it - my boss TU-2 and Bass Vt Deluxe. The lcd says voltage available for E is 0.1V. Any idea what's happened? I've notified the store I bought if from but considering i cant get there till thursday I thought I'd ask around here and see if anyone can shed any light on the matter. Cheers Col
18. I use a Whirlwind ABY on my small doubling board - Double Bass to g30 wirelss into A and Bass guitar to g30 wireless into B - out to tuner/mute to VT bass Deluxe out to amp and desk. Its a dream rig! Have also used it sending one signal to two Ampeg B100r's via the BOTH switch. no issues there. Love the ABY!!!!
19.
So after everyone's advice I've decided to go for a SVT 3 non pro and I'll get a sansamp vt to boost tubeyness. If anyone knows of one going, please let me know! Thanks
You wont be disappointed mate Let us know how it sounds!

21. A nice American Special/Highway One P in sunburst should fit nicely. 70's logo, thin nitro finish allowing it to age nicely. and you wont feel to bad swapping out the pickups to something a touch grittier if need be. Next on my list I reckon!
22. We all do, act accordingly
23. I use an SVT Classic for bigger gigs but the majority of shows these days don't justify me breaking my back my shifting it too and from my truck. For the last 18 months I've been using a pair of B-100R combos. Amazingly cool amps with tons of vntage Ampeg tone but they are also a bit on the heavy side. So a couple of weeks ago I landed a PF350 and 115HE from the Portaflex series. All I can say is that I adore it so far! So bloody simple! Keeps up at rehearsals with two guitars and a loud drummer. Am taking it to a couple of gigs this weekend. I also have a pair of VT Deluxe's also (one on each board) so usually have one in front of my amp and use the DI for PA support. If I want a slightly bigger tube sound from the PF or B100r, I just click it on and boom - SVT a-plenty (almost perfect clone) The VT Deluxe is also perfect for taking big, old, 'boring' amps and making them sound like a sweet SVT rig. I love going to shows where there is a shared backline (usually an Ashdown or a Fender Rumble) and watching the bass players scratch their heads and play with eq knobs etc, trying to get the same tone with their rigs. haha. The VT is a must.
24.
Fiddly things to get just right.. i find I use the MXR M87 & the metering is a big bonus... Switching from fingers to Slapping' shall we say. Yeld's a very big difference in sound. Personally i like to use them to just " Grab the Sound" Not Squash it... they do give a fatness & more sustain to the sound...& used in conjuction with a Aphex Exciter' or a Sonic Stomp" then you are in a different Sound measure!!
My signal chain goes tuner - MXR compressor - Bass Xciter - Chorus - Envelope - OD/Fuzz - Reverb - pre/out I love the combined use of the compressor and the Bass Xciter!!! Serious fatness!!! Sounds A1 recorded too!
