If it were me, I'd be looking at either a Peavey T-40 or a Stingray, possibly a Wal if I was made of money. One year later and you're into the first year of Fodera, which is (un)lucky for me, being 1983 lol Si
Thanks again Si, I'll drop the support team a note to mention the huge improvements moving from Avast gave me. Maybe they should give a Nod32 licence away as part of their monthly plugin deals I've got a lot more confidence in Focusrite now so I may look into the Scarlett 2i4 a bit more (key thing for me on that is the RCA out connectors which means I can go through the same interface and test the mix on my Yamaha HS7s and my Tannoy E11 / Rotel RA930AX amp hi-fi setup. Any idea if there are any comparisons of the latency improvements between the Forte and the Scarlett 2nd gen?
There were big steps forward in latency with ththe new 2nd Gen Scarlett's over the 1st gen driver (which the Forte shared), so you may well see an improvement (depending on a lot of variables) in a 2nd Gen 2i4. Hi, So glad that it's been resolved! Yes I was in the Tech support team, although have moved to another part of the business around 6months ago. As such I've kinda fallen away from the little things that can cause problems (Windows 10 updates (eugh), free virus protection updates (double-eugh)). That said, I obviously like to still represent on here as best I can, and can always pass details onto Tech support to contact back asap. With regards to Forte, as you mentioned, it is now discontinued, and whilst we will always help as best we can with ANY of our products through the years, as you can imagine, we can only commit to bug-fixing for a certain period past discontinuation, which is 2 years. And this is, of course, if the bug can be fixed in the context of an operating system that the discontinued product may not have even been tested on initially. Certainly report the issue to Tech Support anyway, they'll be glad to hear of that fix working and may be able to asvise of any further beta versions of the driver available for Forte. I'm not aware of any, but as I said, I'm not in the thick of that part of the business anymore Cheers Si // Focusrite Media Relations

Hey bud, Just wondered if you've talked to Focusrite's Tech Support about it? Si // Focusrite Media Relations

Fundamentally it comes down to aesthetics and ego, simple as that . Ego because there is a "I DON'T NEED LINES" mentality with some players . If something helps you (lines), it can't be a bad thing. That said, if you're coming exclusively from upright bass, then lines/frets are likely to be a bit confusing. Like a lot of people, I prefer a naked board aesthetically, and my first ever fretless was indeed a plain board replacing the original fretted board on that bass, all I had was dots in the original placement (in-between frets), so that was a steep learning curve. Got there though. Both 'off the shelf' fretless basses I had after that were lined, because it was easier to deal with on a gig, had no problem with having the lines there to help. That said, as has been pointed out, you can rarely see lines further than maybe your lowest string, so quarter lines make a lot of sense. If I were to buy another fretless, I'd either go for quarter lines or just lines on the side. Si

Cor, good job I'm not in the market for a fretless...... Si

Yeah I use that technique all the time, so was fun to hear Michael talk about it . Got it from Ryan Martinie yeaaarrrsss ago. Combine it with an octave down pedal for biiig low end Si
Well, I never checked the serial. Here, if you want to have a look.
Very interesting, yeah, never seen a date sticker before, on an OC-2 or other Boss pedal......wonder if any other Boss pedals have them. For the wider thread, and those who don't follow me on Instagram, here's my little collection (will also add to the initial post): There are near-mint boxed examples of all iterations of the OC-2 through the years (although one of the few Boss pedals to have no circuit change....they all sound the same basically), plus two extra un-boxed Octavers in the front. Back row L-R: Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octave (lighter paint), Black Label Taiwan Octave (darker paint), Silver Label Taiwan Octave. Maybe they'll release a Wazacraft OC-2 that I can add to the collection haha. Si

I love having fewer basses. Not down to one, but was at three for last couple of years, currently at two, but looking for a third (on the cusp of ordering I think). I guess my 'main' bass is my '71 Precision with flats, but that's obviously not perfect for every situation, so am looking for a quality P/J 4 string to have with roundwounds etc. Also have a cheap but quality 5 string for the few gigs that call for it (Lakland 55-01). Three, to me, seems to be the magic number :-D Si
The bypass sucks the soul out of the clean tone pretty bad. Because of that I don't use it.
Really? In what way? I ask because it's a true bypass switch, so the bypass isn't touching the circuitry.....which means it won't tone suck by design. It would surprise me if the Tender Octaver Pro sounds the same (as good?) as the previous version. EHX has it shut down for a reason, I suspect the algorithm Mooer used being too similar if not the same as the POG. So they likely had to change it for the Pro. Si

Focusrite iTrack - recording demos on iPad
Sibob replied to Rich Lennon's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hi Rich, As it happens, I'm a member here, and also work for Focusrite, so I can answer a couple of questions here It depends which iTrack product you're referring to really, I think you're either referring to the iTrack Solo or iTrack One Pre. With either of them, you do not need to use a DI Box, as they each have an instrument input, the Solo as a separate socket (1x XLR, 1 x 1/4"), the One Pre as the middle part of the combo XLR port. You could then look at using an Amp sim within Garageband on whatever DAW you're using if you want a particular sound. The One Pre is an evolution of the Solo in a different form, and so as such, the One Pre benefits from a higher gain range on the instrument input etc. But the Solo does allow for simultaneous recording of a Mic and Instrument (i.e. both inputs) if needed, the One Pre is one Mic/Instrument at a time. As you mention, you can then use a DAW on your iPad such as Garageband, Cubasis or Auria to multitrack record your instruments. Any other questions, just ask Si // Focusrite Media Relations -
Hoping that a lot of manufacturers move to Pau Ferro actually, I'm a fan of Rosewood, especially when it's a darker specimen, but actually prefer the closer grain of Pau Ferro. How long until some obscure species of Maple causes all species to be added to the CITES list??? PANIC BUY YOUR DREAM BASS NOW!!! haha Si

For those that aren't aware, the OC-2 circuit has never ever changed. A very minor component change (not relating to a part of the circuit that creates the tone) and that's it. As mentioned, any changes would simply be because of brand of components or something inconsequential like that. So no, no OC-2s really sound different. The difference is price really are just because there were less of the OctaveR model made, and again, less Japanese ones in general made compared to the Taiwanese. From there, even the Taiwanese versions are sought after simply because they aren't made anymore. Si

I mean are you just looking for validation? Lol I have a Mini Flashback and it's great.....simple as that really Si

I suspect it's worth people just listing what they have, and Alex contacting those he's interested in testing Si

That's a 55-94 rather than a 55-76, as such, much less rare! You'd be better off keeping your eye on this perhaps: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272625668289 Si
I was actually thinking of buying one, that's why I was asking. There are a few stores here in Greece that sell it for about 90 euros
If they have one in stock, I'd say buy it Si
Nice! I've got one. It's made in Taiwan, has a BOSS Sticker on the back that reads "10.2001" and there's this number: JO 75749. It lives in Bern, Switzerland.
Cheers, added. The serial puts it as June 2001, slightly at odds with the sticker (not seen a dated sticker before), interesting. Si

Interesting update from Yamaha, although Matt/satin finish? There's going to be a whole load of knackered looking Yamahas soon lol What didn't you like about the 55-01? Pickups/Pre presumably if you'd consider a 55-02? Would be nothing stopping you dropping humbucker and single-coil soapbars into a 55-01 to give you a 55-02 sound. I guess depends if you can find a nice one used, usually £450-550, leaves monies for your choice of pickup/pre upgrade Si

Vintage bass collectors, have a good cry with me.
Sibob replied to Steve Browning's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah, whilst it's really interesting to see these old receipts.....I think it was me.....I'd prefer to carry on not remembering them haha. Amazing, though, wonder what those basses are upto now Si -
Has anyone tried the Tender Octaver by Mooer? It has the same layout as the nano POG (sub, up, and dry) and from what i've seen on youtube it sounds really cool and has a bit more bass. I dare say that it sounds a bit better with fuzz than the POG.
Yeah I run a Tender Octaver on one of my boards (alongside an OC-2 of course). I just use it for the octave up, and it's essentially the same pedal as the POG. I wonder if they managed to utilise the same algorithm, as EHX took great issue with the Tender, and so it's quite difficult to find it for sale (new at least) anymore. Si

My vote goes to a Lakland 55-01 or 55-02, depending what pickups you want. Si
