1. First change of 2017, JV Squier Jazz is out, Lakland Skyline DJ4 is in Lakland 55-01 - 1971 Precision - Lakland DJ4 Si
2. I think there are a lot of variables at play. Generally I think it would probably be too floppy, however higher tension strings would help here, if the neck is good enough quality to be able to setup that way. The Callowhill Owen Biddle Signature (OBS) is usually 5 or 6 strings and 30", people rave about them, don't know if they're using custom strings though. Si
3. So, I had a Squire JV Jazz, which was really cool, sounded great, but a little heavy unfortunately. Sold that as I had the opportunity to pick this up new and jumped at it after being so impressed with my 55-01. Never heard a bad word said about the DJs and know a few people who gig them regularly and love them. This one is 'Metallic Charcoal Silver', with an acrylic scratchplate: New family photo coming soon Si
4.
Crikey - this thread is turning into some proper expensive instrument porn now! (not that I'm complaining!) Choices, choices..
We're not at 'expensive' until you start looking at a Fodera Anthony Jackson Hybrid........or a 17th Century Orchestral double-bass Si

I'm not a big fan of the headstock.....looks like it's trying to be Fender, but unfinished at the end. But I bet they're great otherwise Si
6. You have the option of almost any bass you want, great position to be in. If I was looking to drop £5k on a jazz bass, I'd either be looking out for a really nice custom colour 60's original (likely to be located somewhere other than the UK, so prepare to buy without trying).....or first port of call would be a Stenback I think. Maybe a USA Lakland and some spare cash. Si

Asian vintage Fender copyists, seemingly very good at what they do judging on the clientele! Probably set you back about £2k I think?! Someone on here has one I think, hopefully they'll be along If it were my money, I'd probably go for an Olinto bass by La Bella. Handmade by Mas Hino in Brooklyn. Si
8. Never heard of them.....simple as that. If no-one has, and there's no videos, might be an 'order and hope for the best' type vibe. Si
9. Auto Pilot, their album House Of Sleep is incredible, a real journey: https://open.spotify.com/album/0jz7Bd51IKyaJNG7Wa2Sh9 Si
10. Hi Steve. If you haven't had a reply from Tech Support within 48hours, either they're incredibly busy and a little bit behind, or they haven't received it (sometimes emails are lost in the internet ether). Give them a call and they'll be able to help: 01494 462246 Simon // Focusrite Media Relations
11. Depends on the project. Are you building a board for the sake of it, or do you need some other sounds for the music you play? That kinda determines what is 'essential' or not The only pedal that is essential for me is a tuner, but if I want a few extra optional colours, I'll have my OC-2, envelope filter, maybe a little chorus and overdrive, high Octave etc Si
12. Weekend rebuilds complete with my larger board for Corybantic, downsized from a Diago Showman to this Gator Tote. Need to re-cut the power cables as most are too long (from the larger Diago), but ok for now, messy though. Chain: COG Knightfall 66 prototype -> Fuzzrocious MOTH -> Boss VB-2 -> Boss PH-3 -> Mr Black Eterna -> Digitech Bass Synth Wah -> COG T-16 -> TC Flashback Mini -> TC Polytune Mini Noir. All powered by Gigrig Cheers Si
13.
And another thing: the 5-string basses with a 4+1 headstock - why do companies do that?
I much prefer 4-1 to 5 in a row Si
14. Bump Trades for pedals considered, something strange and noise based perhaps. Si
15.
Always got a great board mate! I see youve gone back to the OC2 from the TC16. I recently got a T16 instead of an Oc2 based on your demo of the two 😀 Still gassing for an MXR chorus deluxe too.
I've always had an OC-2 on this board actually, the T-16 is on my larger 'Corybantic' board (which I've redone too, just need to run the power on it). Si
16. Hi all, With no gig on Friday, decided to completely tidy up my main board. Added on the Mooer in place of the POG, and the space + tidy up = room for the new MXR Chorus. Chain is: bypass looper -> MXR Chorus -> Mooer Tender Octaver -> COG Mini 66 -> MXR BEF -> Boss OC-2 -> Boss TU-3W -> Bypass looper. Personally think this is as good as it gets, in this small space, without using digital multi-fx! Powered by Diago with help from The Gigrig. Si
17.
I know Luthiers are not cat-walk models (mostly) but that's a bit harsh dude!
Hahaha, you know what I mean Si
18. Same as always, getting people to list their own preferences probably isn't going to help (although experiences of the process might). Basically, here is a (not necessarily exhaustive) list of popular luthiers in the UK, talk to them all! Yup, ALL of them (unless you totally hate the look of them). Once you start describing what you (think) you want, you'll get some builders who are enthusiastic and some who are not so much, always go with enthusiasm: Shuker ACG Sei Status GB Overwater Enfield (SIMs) Alpher Jaydee Wal Iceni Gus Then the slightly less 'custom' options such as: Bravewood Limelight etc etc Si
19. Perhaps you could provide a short recording so we can hear what the issue is? Si
20.
Nice, Simon! Things I did notice:

the difference between passive and active MK1's is more noticeable than the difference between active/passive Barts
the MK1's are not highly regarded (on TB), but they sound like fine single coils to me
the Barts are not better, but different. Warmer, growly indeed
I also own a (stock) Lakland 55-01. And I like the Barts a lot. Not sure if I am convinced enough to invest a large sum of money.
I agree with a lot of this, my feelings are that the USA passive sound is (IMO) a lot better than the MK-1 passive sound, but the active is sound is just different (and preferable to me). The stock MK-1s are actually split coils as opposed to true single coils, but the USA Barts in my case are Dual Coils, so undoubtably some of the sound difference is that. Si
21.
Getting rid of some excess instruments this week, I guess another Jake might be in order in the near future. There's one I want to base it off on the website, what's Adrian's stock necks like? Might not have to go for a customish build as this one looks perfect.
My custom Jake just had the standard neck dimensions and it was very comfortable, fairly shallow for a Precision neck, but not too shallow lol. Just very nice Si
22. Sold a pedal to Jordi with no issues, very nice guy, quick payment etc. Cheer Si
23.
Anorher Beautiful JV for sale. Good luck.
Cheers Bump Si
24. SOLD Selling my Nano POG, not much to say, it's the Micro POG in a 1590B enclosure. Generic picture attached as I'm not with it, but it's in 9/10 condition, boxed with the included power supply etc. They're £172 new SOLD
