I also know this feeling. Solved by having flats on my '71 P, playing my other two basses (Jazz & humbuckered 5 string) at home/rehearsals/other appropriate gigs.....and just knowing that the P sounds better on almost every other gig/recording. Si

It's a little more Silver in real life, but yeah, really nice. I don't mind the acrylic at all, but treating it as a 'fender custom colour, would certainly get a mint green (vintage white) for it. Wouldn't put a tort on it though lol Si

I think there are a lot of variables at play. Generally I think it would probably be too floppy, however higher tension strings would help here, if the neck is good enough quality to be able to setup that way. The Callowhill Owen Biddle Signature (OBS) is usually 5 or 6 strings and 30", people rave about them, don't know if they're using custom strings though. Si

So, I had a Squire JV Jazz, which was really cool, sounded great, but a little heavy unfortunately. Sold that as I had the opportunity to pick this up new and jumped at it after being so impressed with my 55-01. Never heard a bad word said about the DJs and know a few people who gig them regularly and love them. You have the option of almost any bass you want, great position to be in. If I was looking to drop £5k on a jazz bass, I'd either be looking out for a really nice custom colour 60's original (likely to be located somewhere other than the UK, so prepare to buy without trying).....or first port of call would be a Stenback I think. Maybe a USA Lakland and some spare cash. Si

Asian vintage Fender copyists, seemingly very good at what they do judging on the clientele! Probably set you back about £2k I think?! Someone on here has one I think, hopefully they'll be along If it were my money, I'd probably go for an Olinto bass by La Bella. Handmade by Mas Hino in Brooklyn. Si

Depends on the project. Are you building a board for the sake of it, or do you need some other sounds for the music you play? That kinda determines what is 'essential' or not The only pedal that is essential for me is a tuner, but if I want a few extra optional colours, I'll have my OC-2, envelope filter, maybe a little chorus and overdrive, high Octave etc Si

Hi all, With no gig on Friday, decided to completely tidy up my main board. Added on the Mooer in place of the POG, and the space + tidy up = room for the new MXR Chorus. Chain is: bypass looper -> MXR Chorus -> Mooer Tender Octaver -> COG Mini 66 -> MXR BEF -> Boss OC-2 -> Boss TU-3W -> Bypass looper. Personally think this is as good as it gets, in this small space, without using digital multi-fx! Powered by Diago with help from The Gigrig. Si

Same as always, getting people to list their own preferences probably isn't going to help (although experiences of the process might). Basically, here is a (not necessarily exhaustive) list of popular luthiers in the UK, talk to them all! Yup, ALL of them (unless you totally hate the look of them). Once you start describing what you (think) you want, you'll get some builders who are enthusiastic and some who are not so much, always go with enthusiasm: Shuker ACG Sei Status GB Overwater Enfield (SIMs) Alpher Jaydee Wal Iceni Gus Then the slightly less 'custom' options such as: Bravewood Limelight etc etc Si
