DIY Effects

Just spoken to Julian over at Schalltechnik04 and he mentioned that the Guma Drive & Guma Antique are back in stock now. All found here: http://schalltechnik04.de/en/kits Si
2.
As good as the live performances and masterclasses were, and as beautiful as some of the gear was, the highlight of the show was walking past Steve Lawson playing hidey with your little one... Not sure which one of them found it more amusing!
Haha, yeah Steve was a big hit with Finn (my 11month old son for those wondering). Si
3. Worth noting that the OC-2/OC-3 is not octave up, only octave down. Most 'Octave Fuzzes' are an analogue octave up (as opposed to digital octave up like the POGs of this world), analogue octave ups are notoriously subtle, especially in a band mix. The Earthquaker Tentacle is one such analogue octave up fuzz. The TC is obviously a digital pedal and does a proper octave up. The Mooer Tender Octaver is digital and basically a clone of a POG (controversially so, hence their rarity now), Amazon.de is the only place I can see them now: https://www.amazon.de/Mooer-Tender-Octaver-Guitar-Effekte/dp/B0111T01N4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489406709&sr=8-1&keywords=Mooer+Tender+Octaver Si
4. I stopped by the BC booth twice and had a good chat both times. I think part of the issue was that it was in the main hall.....and the main hall was LOUD. Perhaps it would have been better having the BC booth a bit closer to the entrance?! Si
5. The TC is obviously a good shout, especially at used prices. Or if you can find a Mooer Tender Octaver, usually about £55. They're basically a POG clone. Rare though as EHX kicked up a stink and now no-one sells them lol Si
6.
Very odd spacing on the control knobs! For some reason that would really irritate me... not that I could afford one anyway. I owned a four string Jabba for a while, and while it was beautifully put together it just left me slightly cold for some reason. Nothing I could put my finger on, just "not right" for me no matter how much I tried to love it My loss.
The control layout is basically pulled directly from his Ken Smith Signature, he must like it Si
7. I'll be there Sunday! Possibly with a baby haha Si
8. It's all about the Chromes right, have some on my '71 Precision and they're brilliant. Beautiful '64 though! I almost bought a '59 once and bottled it........wish I'd bought it Si
9. If the issue is your bass (i.e. a lack of a feature), why not have a luthier add a passive tone control on your bass? Easy enough to do. Even possible to have a tone control work across active and passive, pretty helpful. Si
10. I always found the idea that you have to actively 'copyright' something when you create it. You don't. As soon as you create something, you own the copyright until you explicitly sign it away. Of course, the trick is proving that ownership. Usually that's not an issue in todays age where people demo and demo and demo. All those files would be time and date-stamped, which would hold up in court against an infringer who wouldn't be able to provide any 'work in progress' evidence. There's obviously different levels of this, different ways of proving ownership (the CD in the post is effective in some cases, but fairly old school). If it were me, I would simply ask the the promoter if he understands that he doesn't have permission to sell your songs (especially seeing as he didn't ask permission to make the recording in the first place). That said, I'd also be interested in perhaps getting hold of those recordings....if you deem them to be good enough....for extra content down the line. So asking him not to release them, giving him credit and whatever royalties are realistic (I don't know how popular your band is), and you release them at your discretion. Si
11.
Thanks to everyone who's offered input (pardon the pun) thus far. I'm digging the focusrite thus far, but I have some research to do before I splash the spondulicks. Cheers all.
If there's any questions I can answer, please do let me know Si // Focusrite Media Relations
12. So if Tech 21 aren't aware of these already, they'll want to be lol Looks like the Valeton (purveyor of tiny chinese pedals) are putting out, what certainly look like, FlyRig clones. Looks like the Bass one will launch in April some time: No idea on price, but maybe around £150 Si

Have you asked TC Tech Support? Si
14.
One thing that Fender isn't is terrible value for money. Unlike custom builds, Warwick, Yamaha, Cort and Ibanez, they hold their price brilliantly. 15 year old US standard models sell for around £700, about the same they were new.
I'd agree if you're buying second hand and selling on, but anything you buy new will instantly lose a fair bit of value when you leave the shop. Think of them like cars lol Si
15. I also know this feeling. Solved by having flats on my '71 P, playing my other two basses (Jazz & humbuckered 5 string) at home/rehearsals/other appropriate gigs.....and just knowing that the P sounds better on almost every other gig/recording. Si
16. Use it as an excuse to buy this?: Si
17.
But Sadowsky is a custom builder...? Personally, I'd prefer almost any decent option other than Fender if I wanted a custom build. I think they're terrible value for what you get from them.
Fender are only really a 'custom builder' when you get into the master-built stuff, which is usually £4K-£5k.....not sure I'd bother when you could get some great vintage stuff for the same price Si
18. It's a little more Silver in real life, but yeah, really nice. I don't mind the acrylic at all, but treating it as a 'fender custom colour, would certainly get a mint green (vintage white) for it. Wouldn't put a tort on it though lol Si
19. I actually love it when this happens.... "Oh that's way too expensive......oh it's sold" lol Happened recently when I sold my JV Squier on Facebook.... "Oh that's way too expensive for a Squier" "That's ok, it just sold so......" Si
20. First change of 2017, JV Squier Jazz is out, Lakland Skyline DJ4 is in Lakland 55-01 - 1971 Precision - Lakland DJ4 Si
21. I think there are a lot of variables at play. Generally I think it would probably be too floppy, however higher tension strings would help here, if the neck is good enough quality to be able to setup that way. The Callowhill Owen Biddle Signature (OBS) is usually 5 or 6 strings and 30", people rave about them, don't know if they're using custom strings though. Si
22. So, I had a Squire JV Jazz, which was really cool, sounded great, but a little heavy unfortunately. Sold that as I had the opportunity to pick this up new and jumped at it after being so impressed with my 55-01. Never heard a bad word said about the DJs and know a few people who gig them regularly and love them. This one is 'Metallic Charcoal Silver', with an acrylic scratchplate: New family photo coming soon Si
23.
Crikey - this thread is turning into some proper expensive instrument porn now! (not that I'm complaining!) Choices, choices..
We're not at 'expensive' until you start looking at a Fodera Anthony Jackson Hybrid........or a 17th Century Orchestral double-bass Si

Moollon

I'm not a big fan of the headstock.....looks like it's trying to be Fender, but unfinished at the end. But I bet they're great otherwise Si
25. You have the option of almost any bass you want, great position to be in. If I was looking to drop £5k on a jazz bass, I'd either be looking out for a really nice custom colour 60's original (likely to be located somewhere other than the UK, so prepare to buy without trying).....or first port of call would be a Stenback I think. Maybe a USA Lakland and some spare cash. Si
