2. I'm using Pro-Steels (medium scales), NYXLs & Chromes currently. Would like NYXLs on my Shuker, but have to wait for the high C singles to be released. I think Andrew said around July-August?! Si
3.
NBD!!!!!! Details to follow. Something to whet you appetite. NBD thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/282168-nbd-maruszczyk-content/page__pid__3016426#entry3016426
Very cool bass, although if I were ordering it, I would go for 2-tone sunburst, gloss finish and 4 in a row matching headstock. Black hardware keeps in non-bling lol Si
4.
The octave-up sound of the You're Doom only comes in once you start playing past the 12th fret and roll back your tone. It's not an octave fuzz but it hints at it sometimes.
Yes, some Fuzz pedals can be like that, based on what component values are used, it seems that this is what the Attack Goat does. Whilst I am looking for something a little more subtle than POG into distortion, probably less subtle than just a Fuzz by-product. Si
5.
If you dnt need the sub look at the la machine aswell same thing with out the sub circuit
Ah ok, interesting, will take a look Cheers Si
6. I think I would like a Fuzz with octave up, as opposed to just the dirtiness caused by the analogue up. Will look into the You're Doom & the Hoof Reaper, although the HR is a little large. Will explore the MXR Sub-Machine a little further too. Cheers Si
7. They weren't part of the test, and I can't compare them to the others in the test, but I always found Rotosound flats to be way too high tension for me. The new Chromes I've fitted feel much nicer, I made a point of matching the tension (or as close as possible) to the tension of the roundwounds I use, very handy, knowing the overall tension of each set. Si
8. Great little shootout! Especially with them being all on the same bass! It would interesting if you could comment on the tensions of each set, this is again effected by gauge, but would be interesting to know. I literally just strung my '71 P with a set of D'addario Chromes tonight and am loving them! It's been a while since I've had flats fitted where I get on with the tension! Si
9. I have one of the Warwick boards, the equivalent to the PedalTrain Nano, and it's fine, basically the same as the Nano, same bag etc. Each of the beams are marginally thinner than the Pedaltrain, but realistically I don't think this will cause any drop in structural integrity. Gigged mine plenty and it's fine. Si
10. Cheers, it's actually a more subtle sound that I'm after, I've found that the POG into overdrive is a little too 'Royal Blood', so figure I can get something that's more subtle and in one pedal. That said, I already have a COG T-16 on that board, and run overdrive as my main sound, so I could just play an octave higher and use the T-16.....maybe. Different sound though. Basically I think I want a Fuzz pedal that has a blend and the fuzz side has an analogue Octave up Si
11. Am interested to know what people think are the best analogue Octave (up) Bass Fuzz? I'm thinking of replacing my POG + Distortion setup for high octave distortion with a single pedal analogue solution. Cheers Si
12. I have to say that mine came with a very low action, I had to raise the strings a smidge, but after it had been out of the case for a day or so it settled in really nicely. Bear in mind that mine was freezing when it arrived, probably sat in vans or warehouses all weekend. Hate shipping basses, poor things getting all cold lol Si
13. Yup, he's certainly always working and always improving! Si

DIY Effects

Managed to fit a Poultone Trooper Boost in a 1590a, which I'm happy about. Wasn't as fiddly as I thought it would be: Si
15. I've played this and it's stunning! Thankfully for me, it's not fretted haha Si
16.
Filter into OC-2 is interesting - no tracking issues?
I never really use them together with this board, but when I have, it's been fine, the clean blend on the MXR really helps. Si

What effects?

It's probably worth stopping this now, simply because you're going to get a bujillion different opinions. Firstly, you don't 'need' pedals, they should be introduced for a particular reason. So, what exactly are you trying to achieve tonally? What bands are you in? Any recordings we can listen to etc? Si
18. After a few gigs, my utility board needed some tweaks after the last layout! New chain: Bass -> DIY true bypass switch -> Line6 M5 -> MXR Bass Envelope Filter -> Boss OC-2 -> COG Knightfall 66 -> back out via TB switch. All powered by a Diago Power Station with the M5 running on a GigRig Timelord. Looper painted by Laua Bennett , COG painted by Claire Cousins Si

Which muff fuzz?

If you're building it yourself, then really it's choosing the base circuit then picking the mods that suit you. For me, on bass anyway, the Green Russian Muff is the best starting point, mod for lower frequencies it you like, add mids, a blend of you like, done. I built a GGG green Russian, added a mids pot and it's very cool! Si
20. Actually, an Elrick Master Series 4 string (neck-through) can be had for $8000, a 6er for $8,800, without options. A 4 string neck-through (Elite) Fodera will set you back $8600 with no options (based on the 2016 price list), a 6er $10,175. So certainly the 4 strings are comparable in price. For a bit of fun, I also just maxed out the Skjold quote form on the website and got to $11,490 Si
21.
If the owner/purchaser wants to spend that sum of money, then they must believe it is worth that amount. There is definitely a level of hype and marketing behind the value of them, but that applies to many items we buy, including instruments, cars, houses in certain areas of the country, etc. I fall for it, but I tend to accept I know I've fallen for it! The only part I don't buy is the location/salary/healthcare. That is part of every business, and yes, it is great to see them treating their employees with such a positive approach, but that shouldn't really be part of any marketing or discussion with why they cost so much. Someone could equally turn round and say, well I can buy an NYC Sadowsky for less, is there any issue with how they treat employees? I seriously doubt it. Just an observation. I wouldn't buy one even if I figured it was a sound investment for myself, purely because they don't fit into my typical tastes, but they clearly (and rightly so) have stellar quality overall. If I had that cash 'spare', and wasn't saving for a house, then I'd invest it in a watch, and spent the rest on a nice Sadowsky/Overwater/Shuker or dream Fender (I have enough EBMM's for now!).
Fodera do not use healthcare as a marketing point, it's just simply a fact that adds to a businesses overheads, and in America, supplying healthcare to its employees is not the norm and is not legally required. It's also worth noting that a high-end Sadowsky are comparable to the Fodera 'standard' price range. A sadowsky Singlecut bass will set you back $5500, that's without any options and remember that's a bolt on. Once you start to take the extra construction types available at Fodera, most notably the work that goes into a through-neck singlecut (let alone the hybrid body type), i'd say the prices are on point. Maybe you'd like a Skjold Estate Drakkar bass, made out of Warsaw, Ohio (where??).........$8000 or $9150 with chambered body.......bolt on, still not a neck through. Si
22. Cannot wait for next year! Very grateful to have the show so close to home and will support it for as long as I'm able to! Si
23. I've played this and it's a beautiful bass, really fantastic neck! And of course Eude is a legend to deal with! Si
24. If you did decide you wanted an LED, great layout here: Or if you don't want an LED, then as a visual alternative to Pauls post above: Si
