Which muff fuzz?

If you're building it yourself, then really it's choosing the base circuit then picking the mods that suit you. For me, on bass anyway, the Green Russian Muff is the best starting point, mod for lower frequencies it you like, add mids, a blend of you like, done. I built a GGG green Russian, added a mids pot and it's very cool! Si
2. Actually, an Elrick Master Series 4 string (neck-through) can be had for $8000, a 6er for $8,800, without options. A 4 string neck-through (Elite) Fodera will set you back $8600 with no options (based on the 2016 price list), a 6er $10,175. So certainly the 4 strings are comparable in price. For a bit of fun, I also just maxed out the Skjold quote form on the website and got to $11,490 Si
3.
If the owner/purchaser wants to spend that sum of money, then they must believe it is worth that amount. There is definitely a level of hype and marketing behind the value of them, but that applies to many items we buy, including instruments, cars, houses in certain areas of the country, etc. I fall for it, but I tend to accept I know I've fallen for it! The only part I don't buy is the location/salary/healthcare. That is part of every business, and yes, it is great to see them treating their employees with such a positive approach, but that shouldn't really be part of any marketing or discussion with why they cost so much. Someone could equally turn round and say, well I can buy an NYC Sadowsky for less, is there any issue with how they treat employees? I seriously doubt it. Just an observation. I wouldn't buy one even if I figured it was a sound investment for myself, purely because they don't fit into my typical tastes, but they clearly (and rightly so) have stellar quality overall. If I had that cash 'spare', and wasn't saving for a house, then I'd invest it in a watch, and spent the rest on a nice Sadowsky/Overwater/Shuker or dream Fender (I have enough EBMM's for now!).
Fodera do not use healthcare as a marketing point, it's just simply a fact that adds to a businesses overheads, and in America, supplying healthcare to its employees is not the norm and is not legally required. It's also worth noting that a high-end Sadowsky are comparable to the Fodera 'standard' price range. A sadowsky Singlecut bass will set you back $5500, that's without any options and remember that's a bolt on. Once you start to take the extra construction types available at Fodera, most notably the work that goes into a through-neck singlecut (let alone the hybrid body type), i'd say the prices are on point. Maybe you'd like a Skjold Estate Drakkar bass, made out of Warsaw, Ohio (where??).........$8000 or $9150 with chambered body.......bolt on, still not a neck through. Si
4. Cannot wait for next year! Very grateful to have the show so close to home and will support it for as long as I'm able to! Si
5. I've played this and it's a beautiful bass, really fantastic neck! And of course Eude is a legend to deal with! Si
6. If you did decide you wanted an LED, great layout here: Or if you don't want an LED, then as a visual alternative to Pauls post above: Si
7.
SOFA SHOT MOFOS!!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS. It's a good week for basses in the Baker household.
That thing is a tank!! If I was in a war zone, I'd want that bass!
The sofa shot has arrived! It's a 'Jay bass.
And this is pure class! Si
8. Just arrived is my Knightfall 66 variant from Tom @ Cog: The enclosure has been painted by my good friend Claire Cousins, who has painted a few enclosures for my DIY/Poultone stuff before. This is the first time i've hooked up Claire with another builder for me, what's having very talented friends for if you can't hook-up awesome collaborations You can find Claires art stuff here: www.clairecousinsillustration.co.uk This thing sounds awesome, I will report back further when it's been out on some gigs and will make a video soon comparing it with my 2 channel Knightfall 66 prototype. Cheers Si
9.
Great-sounding basses and fantastic pickups. Just can't get over that massive expanse of scratchplate - I can't stand the aesthetic of basses where the front of them is more scratchplate than body. The standard colours are a bit on the drab side too.
They do custom colours as an extra on the Lionheart (standard) series, but if you don't like the pickguard, go for the Canon series Si
10. From their Facebook, looks like Adrian is starting to offer fanned frets Si
11. Very nice! Lots of bass here for the money I think Si
12. I had the Boss ME-50B for years and years, good sounds, but unfortunately a little limited with what you can stack together because of how each section is arranged (for example you can't select an Octave and Envelope Filter together). I have just got a Line6 M5 which seems excellent for Pitch & Modulation effects (The M9 & M13 has exactly same sounds), but the drive effects leave a lot to be desired. I'd really like to try the Boss GT-10B, it's a little old now, but looks like a very complete solution for bassists. Si
13.
Well, I sent an email last week just saying I was done with waiting and could I have my money back. Funnily a week later a parcel turned up containing not one but TWO pedals...so give him his due at least he recognized that he needed to make amends...and did so. It's just a shame I only order FX buffers rather than something a little more exciting!!! I still couldn't recommend him but hey ho!
Shame you ordered in the first place. Takes an hour to put a buffer kit together.....I even have a Klon buffer built ready to go at home lol (not that you would have known that of course)...same circuit as Gojira Si
14. I was there yesterday (Saturday) and had a fantastic time. Busier than last year, good exhibitor list, and lots of lovely faces to catch up with! Gear wise I didn't try anything (I was in catch-up / chatting mode), but great to see so many amazing ACG basses in one place, and I'm also quite interested in the Jule Amp range! Federico Malaman was a highlight for me, and I also stayed on in the evening to watch the Jaco film. First time I've seen it, very poignant and well made! Si
15. Warwick licensed the shape from them back in the day. Si
16.
Boost pedal built by our very own Sibob
Yay, it's amongst excellent company Si
17. Really cool little units, love mine! Si
18. So incredibly sad, what a talented guy and a hell of a legacy. Si
19.
Paul is always a great hang at LBGS. I quite like this video: https://www.youtube....h?v=3jkqcuzzJYY
That fretless is lush! Si
20. Odd, I purchased the eTicket and it downloaded and printed with no issues at all. That was a week or 10 days ago now though. Si
21.
I really like the standard series... especially the classic ones. Unlike the custom stuff, the prices are comparable with similar builders and the quality still looks top notch. ... been GASing for a Monarch standard classic for a while now. Classic vibe and modern pickups / preamp etc, would fill the gap in my current stable for a modern sounding fretted four very nicely Would have to swap out the PG for a black one though...
I believe you can specify that with them But yes, if ACG had started his business in the 80's, in London, and now employed 20 other employees, due to high worldwide demand, that his prices would still be as good as they are? No of course not. Si
22.
So what am I expected to play? A boring old P-Bass? That's such a cliché.
Well that's the point isn't it, a Pbass doesn't do it for you, a Gus does, so it's worth £5k to you (assuming you can afford it)......who cares what the Genre is My point was simply that I don't like them to look at, so they're not worth the price to me.....that's not to say that they're objectively overpriced though. Si
23. I genuinely don't get the over-priced thing. The reason why they cost so much, is because they have a workshop in Brooklyn, they employ a fair few very talented staff, they afford full healthcare to all of their employees etc etc. Now, they started in NYC in 1983, probably before premises prices became stupid. If you want to attract some of the best luthiers in the world, all in one place, you're probably going to want to stay near a city instead of move somewhere cheaper. Why do they want to attract the best luthiers? Because of the sheer demand for the product. Are you just paying for a name? Not really. You're paying for all the things that are associated with that name. Now 'worth' is largely subjective and a matter of perspective. Before i purchased my (recently departed) Matt Garrison Signature I had played a number of Foderas, did I think they were worth their price? No, for the same reason that I don't think a £50 Stagg is worth it's price, because it doesn't fit or inspire me. When I sat down and played the Matt Garrison, straight away I thought "I would pay the price for this" because of how it felt, sounded etc. Whilst I eventually couldn't justify that money being tied up in one bass because of some family changes, I still think that bass was/is worth the cost. Now if someone thinks that a Fodera is not 'worth' the money for whatever reason, then I fully expect they have never played one that really suited them, which is absolutely fine, everyone clicks in different ways. For what it's worth, I think Gus Basses are ugly as sin, and a 5 string variant couldn't look less punk IMHO.......but who cares, if that's the bass that causes the player to enjoy themselves the most.....buy it and play the hell out of it Si
