1. I'd say take a look at the COG TK-421-X & the MXR Bass Distortion (designed by Fuzzrocious) too. Those two and the B3K are probably the best Bass Distortions with a blend at the mo . There are lots others that probably fall more into the Overdrive or Fuzz categories, it can all be a bit grey lol Si
2. Really nice fingerboard, birdseye, but not over the top! Si
3. Everyone should own one.....or four! Si
4.
that's good to know cheers guys. i'll be less getting my knickers in a twist about dismantling the bass option now!
Another reason to just buy one out there, and do that for getting it home again. Maybe just check your case with an existing bass before you leave lol Si
5.
There's a few grumpy old men on this thread aren't there? It's interesting that all the singers held up to be better are male and rock singers. I think people are missing the point, it's all about performance and engaging the audience with her. She was clearly so charged with adrenaline she lost it a little. She came on so fired up she did miss a few notes then she nailed it for a bit but overdid the jumping around and lost her breath and control at the same time. The audience clearly loved it. Do we have different standards for women I wonder? A lot of the acts lost vocal control towards the end of their sets, Roger Daltrey for one but I'd rather see an act taking risks and entertaining than just delivering and failing to engage. In the past I've seen sets where she has just nailed every note, remarkably so with some of the intervals she uses. There's a difference between not being able to sing for toffee and messing up. Who here hasn't messed up playing or singing live. OK the music isn't for everyone, I'm a sucker for a good pop song. I personally find most rock songs and rock bands dull and derivative, just not my taste, but I don't come on and slag off Dave Grohl for having an off day and going raspy and shouty at the end of a set. I guess I understand if people are criticizing because they didn't get to see the Foo's, whoever thought Florence was an equivalent act got that wrong, but it's hardly the bans fault. I'm a bit worried that we find it ok to criticize women more easily than men.
The Staves aren't male. (Did anyone go watch The Staves btw?) Florence is always off, the occasion has nothing to do with it unfortunately. Si
6.
I'm planning on buying in the US next month. TBH, I can't see why I can't just take the neck off, wrap body and neck separately with bubble wrap and stick them in my suitcases...
This is exactly what I did when I went to Wooten Woods. Removed neck from body, tuners from neck (saves a surprising amount of space), wrapped everything in clothes. Was still a little stressed about it in transit though, because of luggage size restrictions, the neck was still pretty jammed in diagonally across the case.....and they really do just fling those cases about when loading them. I didn't loosen the rod (didn't read into that at all), just made sure that I rebuilt the bass as soon as got to the hotel! Si
7. BDPG is such a cool pedal! Discontinued now as well, grab it while you can Si
8. I don't think I'll ever consider what Florence does as 'singing'.....shouting, wailing, perhaps. Never liked her for that reason. Tell you what, instead of talking about how disappointing one act is, do yourself a favour, do what I'm doing and treat yourself to The Staves set on iPlayer . Beautiful voices! Si
9. I'm interested to know why you prefer batteries? Potential to run out at gigs, expensive, bad for the environment?! Lol Si
10. Regardless of whether people like him or not (I thought his first album was great), I think it's pretty shoddy to turn up for a headliner slot without a great band. It's the one thing live hip-hop does brilliantly (usually). Just lazy! Is there much of a 'show' at all? Si
11. I'm not near a Tellybox, is he getting bottled? Please tell me the ego-maniac is being bottled?! I wondered whether he'd have the gall to turn up without a band....proven correct :-/ Si
12.
id be be tempted to try find the od that sounds right to you with out the eq, but hey thats how ive ended up with like 5/6 dirt pedals
I should point out that I was badly quoting the member above me (somewhere), I wouldn't touch Behringer pedals lol. Not through pedal snobbery, they sound fine, but have some issues with their general business practices. Si
13.
Hi Si, I take your point about the drive pedals but it is probably more to do with me being an insane control freak who likes his sound to be 'just so'! I love the sound of my bass and amp clean and get quite unreasonably irritated with the way that some pedals cut/boost high/low frequencies. Ben.
Haha, that's fair enough You'd probably do well to have each of the combinations in its own loop, with a little 1590a true bypass looper. That way, you'd just have one pedal to press for each sound rather than two Si
14. I often think about a P5, I sort of have one in my Yamaha BB 615, which is a PJ, but that Lakland looks great Dave! Si
15.
Not saying it's poor, just probably not legally enforceable!
Sorry, was replying to the OP essentially Si
16. • I have 3 Behringer EQs which are for different pedal combinations.

No effects or Chorus/Wonderlove= no EQ on
Emulating 80s pick sound = EQ1 on
Distortion / fuzz = EQ2 on
Fission powerchord = EQ3 on
This to me suggests that you need to find some drive pedals that you like the sound of better lol Interesting board though! Si
17. Not sure why a shop is expected to cover the cost of a bass during transit when: A ) they're not delivering themselves (who does?) B ) the courier they're using won't insure it If you're buying a bass, do yourself, the shop and the bass itself the courtesy of either buying a hardcase, or even better, picking it up in person. Not poor at all from Bass Lounge. Si
18. If it were me, and I was going for 8 months (not a short period of time), then I would purchase out there. I went to Wooten Woods last year and took my Jazz bass and found it all quite stressful, let alone taking something like an ACG. It would be easy enough to try and line up a couple of basses at local(isn) shops, let them know your plans a few weeks before, and see if you could arrange them having something in stock, or put by for you. It's a long shot, but you don't know unless you ask. Believe me, will make your travelling a lot more worry-free. Si
19. Good video Mike, important to have 'warts and all' reviews . Hopefully the pickups are a generic size (I'm sure they are) so you can drop something decent in. Unfortunately I guess that's when you start to pay out though. Say you put in some Aguilar DCBs & a 3-band EQ, you're probably talking £300 all in. Plus a setup with fret dress/level, maybe £80. Suddenly it's a £630 bass. Tuner change perhaps, £100 for some hipshots........you get the picture. In any case, it's been an interesting thread for sure! Me? I still would have stuck with your Corvette 5 Cheers bud Si
20. You'll never get great clarity with chords, although that depends on how much saturation (gain) you're using. Really heavy fuzz sounds aren't going to sound great with more than one note really. Also remember that the Mastotron is a gated fuzz (or rather it simulates a gate), so it will start looking to try and 'stop' your signal as soon as you stop attacking the note, which is why you're getting a quick decay on your notes. Try using a Fuzz that is not gated. You'd also do well to experiment with a parallel setup, so having two channels, one for your bass (with the overdrive pedal), and one channel for your fake guitar sound) POG & Fuzz.....or whichever way round you have it. That way, your bass sound will always rumble under the guitar sound even if the fuzz is gating the guitar signal. Si
21. Looking to move my little Ibanez 10 watt practice amp on. Not sure on the speaker size 6" maybe. A solid 8 / 10 condition with the only mark to write home about being a small slice in the vinyl on one side. Works perfectly, sounds nice for a small practice amp. Three band eq Presence control Volume Headphone output that mutes speaker Removeable kettle lead (included) SOLD Cheers Si
22.
Bass big muff.
Fuzz, doesn't count Plus the blend is flawed until you mod it, bad times! Si
23. I guess it only really works if you've tried them all (which is unfair on the MXR a little as it is very new). Was simply interested in what blendable distortion people preferred. Si
24. I know Mike and he mentioned on Facebook that there are some finishing niggles, and that it needed a setup to get it playing nice, but other than that I've not seen anything more. Si
