1. It definitely has a cool 70s punk vibe about it, which is never a bad thing! Si
2. So around 18months ago, I bought an official Fender USA maple Precison replacement neck in order for a Luthier to build a body onto. That didn't work out (another story), and I finally received the neck and other hardware parts back about a month ago. I figured I may as well keep the project going, but go for a pre-existing body as opposed to something 'custom'. So I ordered a used body from Stratosphere, cheap as it had some discolouring and dings (suits me). A generic scratchplate from eBay (fits perfectly), a loom from Kiogon on here, a Crash Magnetic Transducers Salt pickup, some USA Fender tuners + Hipshot D-tuner and it's finally ready to go: First impressions are that it's great, played it on a live-lounge type video shoot today, and it was full, growly & responsive! Si
3.
Hi Si, Yes, I have seen that they have taken "some time off" apparently. I really like the concepts they have for their guitar pickups, a shame they do not come up with some wacky bass pup designs. I really liked their video for the Jazz pickups, but not the P-Bass demo unfortunately. The should have gone with the same approach of the J video. I was tempted to go for a Crash pup, but with the hiatus news... bummer. How would you describe the SALT pup then?
From just playing at home, they sound great!! But I literally got the bass back from my luthier last night, so I'll report back after a gig/rehearsal Si
4. Crash Magnetic Transducers are on hiatus at the mo I believe, although I have one of their Salt Bass Precision pups in a new build and initial impressions are very good Si
5. As always, a really fun day of lovely chats and gear ogling Regarding the member photos, we'll have them for you ASAP! You'll get full high quality pictures on a Dropbox link, and whilst you certainly won't be charged for them, as with anything, if you REALLY like the photo(s) and find a use for them, then feel free to donate further to the site (BC), Breaks Manor, or whatever charity that you feel close to . Thanks to Mick, Chris and everyone involved......even my mum enjoyed it Si
6. So, a tone block is found on all neck through instruments, put simply, it is the extended part of the neck that is sandwiched between the body wings. It can be different wood to the neck & body wing wood, and is certainly thought to effect tone! Check out the rear views of all neck-through Foderas for a perfect example. Si
7. I've updated the first post with the address and a 'how to find the venue' link. See you all in a few hours Si
8. Just had an email back from Adrian (on a saturday!) no extra cost for 33" or other scales! Bonus! Si
9. Keep playing live, learn to play with your eyes closed! Solved! Si
10. Hmmm, I'm not sure I'd call it a design flaw......a design choice really. Lots of Fuzz pedals just have a preset amount of Gain/Fuzz, the assumption is you've bought a Fuzz pedal.....why would you not want it to sound as fuzzy/gainy as possible? Si
11. Would definitely be interested in a lightweight 33" P/J Si
12. As with anything, you're going to have to use your own ears to decide what you do and don't like, but my combination of a Compact and/or a Midget with my Markbass Littlemark II is brilliant to my ears! Si
13.
Thanks all for the great suggestions, I have plumped for a Cog Grand Tarkin from our own Fenderhead. But there was a lot of competition and some really interesting stuff I'd never heard of before.
I've also just noticed that you're from Brightlingsea, my home town, still get back there fairly often to see my parents Anyway, back to Fuzz Si
14. Very cool bass, has an air of Modulus about it, graphite neck, sparkle finish. I especially like the look of the Status neck with no face dots! I'm not keen on the angled tuners, but hey, whatever makes your life easier Si
15. The search for bass fuzz can be a bit of a holy grail quest, certainly take recommendations, but you'll never truly know until you try a lot Si
16. Stunning bass though. Make contact, go to Germany to it (I highly recommend a week in Bavaria). Sorted Si
17. As far as I'm aware, there are not any cheap copies of Darkstars. There are some hand-built clones, however they are likely to be very good quality in any case. I think for £250, you can't really go wrong. Si
18. Whilst slightly different to what you're wanting to achieve, I use a Gigrig Electroman (for my big box 24v Bass Micro Synth), and that works fine off a Diago MP9 daisy chain. Cheers Si
19.
I think I'm done for now
lol.....sure Si
20. First thing I spotted lol. Meh, I dunno, at any price point I don't expect 'errors', those Sires look pretty flawless for the same money. Tbh, I'd stick to that really nice Corvette you got man! Si
21. My OCD can't get past the bridge placement not being in the centre of the tone-block......or matching up with the width of the neck. It will be interesting to see what the general fit and finish is like, the nut looks messy, however could just be shine/bad photos. I wonder what the inside cavity looks like And yes, the control layout is............silly Si
22. If money or size is no object, then get the Strymon Big Sky, there's nothing touching that thing at all, stunning sounds. However I imagine real-estate and money IS a factor, and so I'd still go HOF or anything Mr Black Si
23. Did anyone win anything? I got my hands on the COG Tarkin Si
24. I love seeing 66s on boards!! I always feel like a proud half-parent Si
