Also confused by the anonymity! If the teacher reads this, he's probably going to know who you are, and it doesn't matter if anyone else knows who you are lol. Put it down to a bad experience, don't book another lesson, move on. Take recommendations. There's two types of player in my eyes, one who wants to learn, regardless of the experience, and another who will give up at the first hurdle. The same test can be applied to watching an amazing bassist, some will be inspired, others will want to give up. Now please don't take a offense to that, I fully expect that you'll turn out to be the former, especially when the little hump in this case is not you, it's him Good luck Si

Sorry if I've missed this, but how come there are so many in-stock basses? Do they just crack on with making basses if there are no orders? lol The Sputnik model looks lovely, very Fodera in vibe Si

I'd say it's about matching the pedal to your setup. If you think the MXR sounds better, use the MXR . I always have a problem with people laying into tracking though, I've shown a couple of rooms of people (at Bass Bashes) the OC-2 tracking down to an A on the E string, and to a point as low as an F#, how long a note tracks for obviously decreases as it gets lower. I think the 'Vintage' vs 'Boutique' thing gets overblown a lot of the time. Essentially, a lot of old pedals were low tech, as such, they often had weird settings and hardware/components that acted in weird ways in some settings. As such, a lot of newer users looking for weird and wonderful sounds/noises prefer these old pedals that would have perhaps be seen as useless back in the day (DODs Meatbox is a great example). Newer pedals that are meant to be an overdrive, are just an overdrive, design and technology is at the point where there are no weird sounds, no strange surprises, it's just a good, solid overdrive pedal. The flip side of course is that now, when a builder MEANS to build a weird pedal, they get very weird (Rainbow Machine anyone?). That said, I've still not heard an octave pedal that can beat the OC-2 for me ......not even the new 3 Leaf Octavbre Si

Yeah, you'd traditionally leave the tuning B,E,A,D,G if playing tunes in Db. This is because you can reach a low Db note on the 2nd fret of the B string. Note that with this setup, you're playing a fretted note whilst your guitarists are playing an open string note. This is because, whilst you still have the exact same notes they do, they're in a different tuning, so your notes are in a different place on the neck. Because of this, some players will choose to detune their 4 string (as an example) to match their guitarists tuning, this would potentially aid in learning tunes (copy the guitarists), but also pedalling off an open low note of Db rather than having to play a fretted note. Your second point, if you're talking about stringing a 4 string B,E,A,D, then you will likely need to have the nut re-cut in order to accommodate the B string. However this is quite a common setup for players who want to play in a lower tuning but not play a 5 string. I used to tour in a drop C, F, Bb, Eb tuning, so two tones down across the strings. However I used a standard 45-105 string set, but much higher tension (larger string core). This allowed me to not need to recut my nut and have massive strings, but it did mean I couldn't tune them up to E,A,D,G due to the higher tension. Hope the above is helpful Si

Almost my fave spec of Jazz Bass. Custom Colour, matching headstock, oval tuners. I'd keep the binding and drop the blocks though. Si

This is the Overdrive rather than the Distortion, but it seems to be fairly clearly stated as True Bypass: Some new MXR pedals may be buffered, like the Bass Preamp (much like the Darkglass B7K is buffered to allow for the DI out), but I imagine they're largely all standard True Bypass. Perhaps an email to them would help. There's probably a case for MXR to tidy up (standardise) the specs/features for each pedal on the site. Si
Yeah that's the one, ive read that the mxr pedals have massive tone suck, but that's always been in relation to it guitat pedal counter parts.
Not read that either. Seems odd too, seeing as the vast majority of their pedals are True Bypass, meaning what you read must refer to the 'ON' sound.....which is essentially just not liking the tone of the pedal lol Si

The new one? The M85? I've not tried it yet (not in shops yet, in the next week or so perhaps). Any collab between two excellent pedal companies (MXR & Fuzzrocious) is probably not going to result in tone suck Plus it has a blend Si
Well it looks like the two pickup version will soon be available again. Check out that post on the Guild facebook page: https://www.facebook...?type=1
Sweeeeeet Si

DOD switches are pants though lol. To be fair, he must smash down on his pedals as I know he sometimes has Boss pedals break on him.......there's still Boss pedals that work in Chernobyl Si

Generally speaking I think it's fine, to be able to have a print magazine for bass is great! I agree about the 'Bassically Speaking' though, ultimately pointless. Would be much more interesting giving these players a free platform of 300 words (of whatever it is) to talk about what they want. That said, when I was in it, I didn't answer the questions linearly like a lot of them "I don't slap because"....and they printed it, so part of the fault lies with the players themselves . Theres one recurring column that I think is boring to the point of tears, but I'm sure other readers get plenty from it Si

I've been eying up the M series for a little while, but was concerned about the lack of blends on the overdrives etc, how do the various sounds retain low end? Si
-
I'd say that the 9v doesn't sound as good, but is a bit more convenient. I've never had a build quality issue with new EHX pedals, but I know Juan Alderete won't take them out on tour as he's had a bunch break on him, sticks to the old ones. Si

I wish they'd reissue the two pickup version! That would sell a bunch! Si
Yes, the point stands though. Everyone in music uses their image to enhance their performance, Slipknot/Ramones/Madonna/Taylor Swift, everyone does it - I'm sure @Blue could tell you all about it. Yes, she's wearing jeans & a t-shirt; do you think she just happened to pick those clothes up that day then decided later to record a video? Then look at the make-up, the hair, the way she's moving, the way she looks at the camera, the camera angle etc etc... - there's nothing wrong with it & I'm not having a go, she's a music performance artist & is putting on a good show.
I'd put money on it that she thought about it, from a 'sex sells' point of view, about as much as Huw Foster did for his video. Her clothes? Yes I imagine she did just pick up some jeans and a tshirt and put them on to record a bass video. I imagine that she did her hair and makeup like any number of females do in the morning.....whether they're a musician has nothing to do with it. The way she moves? She's playing the bass to some groovy music, how would you expect her to move? The way she looks at the camera?!?! "Hey dude, did you see how that girl looked at me?" "Think she was just looking around the room man" "No way, she looked at me with a look in her eye" "Pretty sure she was just using her eyes to look at a number of people around the room in a non-descript way" "Whatever, I'm going to talk to her, think she likes me" Check out her cover of Dry Cleaner From Des Moines, next someone will be telling me that she's using her image to sell her playing because she's got her hair down! lol Maybe I'm just very naive This, of course, is all separate to 'Why post up videos of you playing'......which I don't really care about. Si
Is she using her apparent good looks to boost popularity? Yes.
Ummmm, she's just playing her bass in jeans and tshirt?! Si

I think the crux of the issue is the title of the thread, I wonder if it would have taken this tack if called 'Check this bassist out' She's a great player, and Stingrays always seem to nail the 'Do I Do' tone! Good luck to her! Also someone previously mentioned that it's easier to play it in Eb like how Nate played it. Probably worth noting that Nate didn't retune for this (on any) Stevie song, he was playing a semi-tone down long before he got the Stevie gig.......I guess that's why they fit each other so well . So safe to assume his 5 strings are down to Bb too. Si

I had a Streamliner 900 for a few weeks, hated it. Could not get a useable tone from it at all. Sold it and went back to my Markbass LMII, much more useable and sounded louder to my ears. This was through Barefaced cabs. Really like Markbass heads, the LM2 & 3 are great, although the Bass Show at the weekend has me secretly eying up the Aguilar Tonehammer 500 Si
