1.
The Japanese Boss OC-2 is a famous one; sounds exactly the same and made with the same components as the Taiwanese, yet people will bizarrely pay more.
[ geek ] Yes & no. The Japanese Octaver has a marginally different sound in that it has a slight dip in direct gain even at max blend, I actually prefer it in the mix, makes the octave pop a bit more. Whether one pays more money for that is a simple fiscal choice. But they 'fixed' that when the name changed to the Octave and you're right, no difference between Japanese Octave & Taiwanese Octave. [ /geek ]
 2. It's simply the case that people latch onto a change, be it a component change or a manufacturer location change etc. Whether the scarcity of the previous model causes the value to go up is usually a combination of who uses them and luck Si
 3. I"d be interested in trying a GR2 actually. To be fair, I don't use my filter to get real quacky slap/'funk' sounds. I simply what a nice vowel sound on my low notes. Si
 4.
Lots of thinking points in this thread! The MXR is not my usual kind of filter, but then again my 'usual' kind of filters have all been sold for one reason or another! The Proton I think is leading the way in my head; I am almost tempted to buy a few and have an extended test of them, you just don't get a feel for filters in store I feel.
With any pedal you've got to gig it really, pointless testing in a shop or at home......those aren't live band mixes Si
 5. Hi guys, Got a T-Rex Juicy Lucy for sale. Some gumf: 5 isolated 12-volt outputs Each of Juicy Lucy's 5 isolated outputs delivers 300 mA of 12-volt power – which is enough to keep even the most demanding T-Rex pedals pumping out the tone. With a Current Doubler (not included) you can combine 2 outputs to deliver a staggering 600 mA of power. Many pedals will run on 12v (as most components tend to be rated at 16v anyway), often this gives the pedal slightly more headroom and a bit more Oooomf. Examples of pedals I've run on 12v using this JL: All Boss pedals including vintage Japanese. Cog 66 MXR Filter Fuzzrocious pedals Darkglass pedals Xotic Clones I've built You get the idea I do not have the box unfortunately or any of the official paraphernalia, although as you can see I will include 5 mis-matched power cables of various lengths. The JL is heavily gigged but has not failed me once and is in fine condition overall. SOLD Try me with pedal trades, happy to add monies to pedals that catch my fancy Interested in: Diago MicroPower 9 or Powerstation Pedal Train Nano Cheers Si
 6. Bear in mind that this thread will simply provide you with a long and definitive list of what other people like/own. Your best bet is to take a listen to some demos, pick a few you're interested in, purchase them (one-by-one and second hand if necessary) and try them live. Move them on if you're not happy. The quest for the ever-elusive drive tone is a long but fun one Si
 7.
Thanks for the info on this (to me) relative minefield. Would I be better dropping the tc tuner in favour of something different? I only really chose it because of its availability and looks.
I wouldn't say so, unless you have a particular need to have it before your drive pedals at the start of the chain (with a daisy-chain power setup). I swapped to it from a Boss TU2 simply because I needed to save some space on that one board. If you have space, the TU-2 or TU-3 are great tuners, although aren't True Bypass if that bothers you (it shouldn't) Si
 8. Yeah there's no reason why that selection of pedals won't 'work' together, however there are some other bits to consider. With regards to MA rating, add up what your pedals draw, then buy a power supply that gives you at least double that draw......perhaps even more if you want to expand at a later date. The TC tuner is digital, and digital pedals can react strangely in a daisy chain (as opposed to when they're fed isolated power), I've got the TC Polytune mini running in a daisy chain, however I have to run it at the end of the chain (no big deal), as it doesn't like being in front of dirt/high gain pedals, gives off low-level white noise in bypass. If you buy an isolated power supply, not to worry, but these are not often seen on small setups. Si
 9. Yeah the TFR is a Green Muff circuit basically and the Darkglass is a.......well, a Darkglass. Very different, get both.......and a Cog, and a Fuzzrocious......and I'm getting prototype PCBs through soon.....get them all basically Si
 10.
3 leaf proton....wet & bubbly funk (new version) moved my MXR B.E.F on' way to quacky, & laser beam effects" very synth sounding....good with a OC2' tho.....but ultimately quite disappointing...I.M.O
That surprises me, although of course it's all subjective. I've found it nothing but useable and very musical. Made some very brief Instagram vids here: http://instagram.com/simonrpoulton (towards the bottom of March 2014) Si p.s. edit. The vids are just through my iPhone mic using my Fender USA passive Jazz, Mark Bass LM2 & Barefaced Midget
I was just wondering if there was any way of building a looper pedal (like the ditto) or an octave pedal (think OC-2)? I have no idea what I'm doing but would quite like a little project to work on. Any of you got any ideas to help me?
Both are of corse technically possible, the Looper would he very very difficult, the OC-2 is an advanced build, although soon good PCBs are available for the Pearl Octaver, very similar plus octave up Si
 12. My go to filter for a really useable sound is the MXR, really flexible but really musical too. I'd be interested in trying out some other more esoteric filters, but for pure workhorse solid filter sounds, my vote is the MXR Si
 13.
Current board; Pitchblack - Demon - Rat Tail - BDPG Been running the BDPG into the power amp of my GK MB500 today, alternating between driving it with the Rat & Demon. It improves both of those pedals massively, keeping much more low end in the sound, thickening up the dirt and keeping the mids very present. So happy with this set up that I've started selling off the rest of my pedals. I'm hoping for the BDPG to be my always-on, giving me 3 distinct sounds ("clean", Rat, Demon). The only downside with it is if all 3 pedals are activated, I seem to lose a fair amount of low end, and it sounds quite thin; however, I'm sure I can play with the settings and fix that. It may even cut through the mix with no problem, anyway. I love the near-matching kid paint, too!
Fair play for fitting all that on a Nano, looks awesome! Si
 14. My fave filter ever, you'll love it Steph, great price too Si
 15.
To be completely honest I'm fairly sure that the Tech21 alone could demolish the walls with my amp :/
But.....you know.....best make sure Si
 16. Hmmmm, my journey was: GS, BDPG, OSD, RT, DD Still have them all Si

 19. I'm sure I'll be there with any number of effects and Precision basses Si
 20.
I'm currently running this little setup. No board, partly because I'm cheap, and partly because I don't have enough hands to carry everything (carrying a bass, amp, backpack, and smoke machine is kind of inconvenient). Powered off a Diago PS01, running the daisy chain out from the tuner. Nothing too fancy, but it does the job. Next additions will probably be a chorus and a fuzz, which I'm going to be building. So that should be fun.
You might want to rethink your power perhaps, if you're Daisy tuning from the Diego then you're probably fine, however if you're feeding the Tuner from the Diago, then Daisy chaining from the tuner, you're going to run out of juice almost instantly. The TU-2 can only supply 200ma, the Cathedral requires 200ma on its own (or that's what the manual suggests). Si
 21.
Oh I know, I know. You're talking to someone who owns a b7k amongst others but it does seem like a lot still. No offence meant if you build them Sibob.
None taken mate . Some companies do take the mickey on the price a little, but still, many small builders still struggle even on current pricing Si
 22.
I know all pedals are the same, but the idea of charging £90 for a few pence worth of resistors and caps is crazy. You see those circuit diagrams and wonder why we bother don't you?
Purchase all the parts (high quality parts), time yourself building it (what do you like to be paid per hour?), do the internals appear a standard that you'd be happy to pay for? Decorate the enclosure to a degree that you'd be happy to purchase from a shop etc......... How much did it cost you in total? Si
 23.
Martin Owen at Owen Electronics will probably be able to sort this for you and I would expect it to cost less than a second hand replica.
Plus whatever value you lose off it being an 'original unmodded' DOD. Of course this doesn't matter to some people, which is cool, just saying Si
 24. It doesn't sound as high gain as the SFT, but sounds nice, wonder what its like in a mix. Si
