I think the main issue from Jon is that he advises of a completion date, he might want to try and manage timescale expectations a bit better (remember when it was 6months? ) If a builder states "I can't tell you when it will be finished, but take a look at these previous timescales", this may relieve any customer tension as well as the odd order which would probably help him out a bit. Two channel options can be a good call, I use it all the time with my COG custom and Fuzzrocious Rat Tail (2nd drive option). Check out the Knightfall '66' by COG Effects (based on my custom). It's an overdrive distortion that has two volume controllable channels and a bunch of diode options on each. Basically, there are a LOT of pedals that will wind back to only giving a little bit of grit. Trouble is, finding that pedal where you LIKE that bit of grit, it can be a long search for 'the one' lol'. If you want a pedal that provides a bit of openend up grit only, check out the Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk B......thats all it does, whereas other drive pedals will often go more distorted, this just does a gritty boost. As mentioned above, lots of choice nowadays. I would suggest that you'll only want an entry type looper at this stage, like the TC Ditto, Boss RC-3 or Digitech Jam-Man Solo. Another good way of not spending out on a looper specifically, is to buy a Delay pedal that has Looping functionality, such as the Boss DD-7, TC Flashback, Akai Headrush, Line6 DL-4 Anything above those might be overkill for you at this point Si

Yeah Timmy is a combination of pedals he made himself, pickups he's wound himself, combos of clean and dirty amps, custom speakers in his cabs. He's notoriously shady with what gear he uses, his view is that he's spent a LONG time and a LOT of effort scuplting it, why should people be able to achieve it with one pedal etc. He also famously includes pedals on his pedal boards that he doesn't use, empty enclosures etc, to throw people off when taking photos of it. So i'm not saying you can't approximate it, but his sound is his sound, figure out your sound maybe?! Si

I would agree with buying an ME-50B normally, however depends what effects you want to use. For example, the Octaves and Envelopes are on the same 'pedal' and so can't be used at the same time (ignoring the expression pedal here). Overal it's a great pedal (I own it), however the drives are lacking IMO. Line6 M9 or Zoom B3 perhaps. My covers board is just individual pedals; Tuner, Octave, Envelope Filter and Overdrive/Distortion. It all gets used fairly sparingly, but just adds colour when necessary Si

This is the thing, as everyone knows, trying to emulate multiple amp/cab/pedal setups simply with a few pedals is incredibly difficult. People report that even the Billy Sheehan pedal doesn't really get his sound, as it's a combination of so many things.....plus the player themselves. Si

I think there's more of a geek element here than people care to admit sometimes. Most people who use a lot of effects would probably benifit from Multi-FX. As mentioned, the Line6 stuff gets better and better, you have pro setups like AxeFX and even Boss is getting better. However......they bore me to hell. Just horrible grey or black boxes with digi-screens and uninspiring journeys to purchasing them (they're not rare or handbuilt). Now, the former is perfectly acceptable, and usually the province of much better musiucians than me, but the latter is the realm of the geek, and I prefer it. It also means that I can help contribute to friends and colleagues who make cool pedals. Buying independant essentially There's also that annoying thing that I've NEVER heard a decent bass overdrive/distortion/fuzz on a Multi-FX. Always horrible digital rubbish. I have a Boss ME-50B which is awesome, octaves, envelopes, reverbs, chorus, wah, even a slow gear....but is there a useable drive setting? no way! :-P I also like that a modular pedal setup can get knocked and changed a bit settings wise, leads me to new sounds and interesting combinations. Plus I don't think I could deal with gigging a setup whereby if one thing died....the whole thing died, not just one effect Si
