I think I might order either some Wizard 84's or some Dimarzio UltraJazz. I've had the UJ's before, and remember them being pretty hot, but the 84's have less of an outlay (new at least). The Series/Parallel switch is an idea, but the switch would need to be internal as it's a vintage bass , I do love the S1 switch on my USA Jazz, I just run it in series the whole time. I might just wire the bass in series with the new pickups perhaps. Has anyone directly compared the Wizard 64's with the 84s? Cheers for the suggestions so far! Si

Hi guys, I'm looking to swap out the Wizard 64s in my Jazz bass, they just aren't cutting it for me, so much quieter than my Precision (fair enough) and US Jazz Standard (not so fair enough). I agree, you have to draw the line between a dabble and actually wanting to acheive something. If you actually want to achieve something, I wouldn't try a pedal that may well simply put you off, you'll move on 3 decent pedals at no loss (if bought second hand) in the same way you can move on 1.....so actually it just comes down to what you can manage as an initial outlay. Again, the benfit of a modular system is that each pedal indivually can also be used for other things.....a synth pedal essentially has one function Si

I didn't really find anything useable on the Digitech Synth, and the straight envelope filter is lacking IMO. However if you ever want to play Technologic by Daft Punk, the EXACT sound is on that pedal lol. I would personally go down the route of seperate Fuzz, Octave, Envelope/Wah pedals. Simply so you have an approximation of the synth sound, but you can also use them individually for any other tunes.....therefore spreading the cost across your set rather than £200 on two songs For example: EHX POG (I think an OC-2 is a better -1 octave, but the POG gives you +1 which helps for synth sounds) MXR Envelope (love this filter, one of very few pedals where I appreciate the clean blend) Fuzz (take your pick of brand) Whether the Fuzz sits in front or behind the filter is your call. To clarify, I've not listened to either track you've mentioned, so just going on 'generic' synth sounds here Si

Yeah, EQD make stonking pedals, as mentioned, the Dispatch Master gives you Delay & Reverb whilst Ghost Echo is pure Reverb, both very cool pedals. If you want cheap, I'd go for the Marshall Reflector, very good reverb with lotsa options, discontinued now I think. Si

I've not heard great things about the Dr Green pedals, however I've never tried one. I use a Mr Black Eterna, which is not what I'd call Rock and Roll, but sounds awsome. It just looks like a Wooly Mammoth Clone, lots of them about. Nice graphics and LED use though. If it's a direct clone, they sound huge on bass. Si

Possibly, although he doesn't want to track the direct signal too, just wants the Low C. All Octaves I've tried do not create a low note that accurately recreates the tone of the direct signal.....nor would I want it to. In fact I'd rather use my OC-2 over a 5 string, I love having the clarity of the C (3rd fret A), with the rumble and sub of the low C Si
