This is my current gigging board for both bass and guitar, though I'm not 100% happy with it. Need to swap the British pedal out for something else, probably a VT Bass or Microtubes but have yet to decide on that. Also the compressor sucks with bass so probably gonna get a separate board for guitar and get some mooer pedals or similar to keep me happy. Also want to get a Chorus, maybe instead of the compressor, any recommendations? I like the look of the Corona and the Mooer but not had a chance to play either yet. Signal goes: Bass > British > Bright Onions looper (Side A > Bassballs > Octaver) (Side B > compressor) > Amp
Add your OC-2 serial to the OC-2 database here, would be very much appreciated http://basschat.co.uk/topic/215286-boss-oc-2-serial-database-please-add-yours/ Great board, nice to see some multi-channel boards coming through! Awesome, thanks, will add when I get home! My May '82 is earliest for me, wonder if there are 'prototypes' earlier than April hanging around?! Si

I think there's more of a geek element here than people care to admit sometimes. Most people who use a lot of effects would probably benifit from Multi-FX. As mentioned, the Line6 stuff gets better and better, you have pro setups like AxeFX and even Boss is getting better. However......they bore me to hell. Just horrible grey or black boxes with digi-screens and uninspiring journeys to purchasing them (they're not rare or handbuilt). Now, the former is perfectly acceptable, and usually the province of much better musiucians than me, but the latter is the realm of the geek, and I prefer it. It also means that I can help contribute to friends and colleagues who make cool pedals. Buying independant essentially There's also that annoying thing that I've NEVER heard a decent bass overdrive/distortion/fuzz on a Multi-FX. Always horrible digital rubbish. I have a Boss ME-50B which is awesome, octaves, envelopes, reverbs, chorus, wah, even a slow gear....but is there a useable drive setting? no way! :-P I also like that a modular pedal setup can get knocked and changed a bit settings wise, leads me to new sounds and interesting combinations. Plus I don't think I could deal with gigging a setup whereby if one thing died....the whole thing died, not just one effect Si

Hi guys, First of all, why just the Boss OC-2? Well simply because I love the thing. How would you fancy helping to compile a list of serials and dates, theres a decoder here: http://www.stompboxzone.com/decoder/ Although happy to do that for you from your serial number. Please add your serial numbers with date, name and location to this thread, or find me on Instagram or Twitter (@simonrpoulton). Similaly, if you know anyone on socials that might be able to contribute, please spread the word with #OC2Database Please find the database here for more info: http://simonpoulton....number-database Please note that this is nothing more than a labour of love, if you check the rest of my blog you'll notice plenty of bass player interviews, pedal talk, with my Twitter & Instagram largely being the same. For those who didn't see on my Instagram, here's my collection: There are near-mint boxed examples of all iterations of the OC-2 through the years (although one of the few Boss pedals to have no circuit change....they all sound the same basically), plus two extra un-boxed Octavers in the front. Back row L-R: Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octave (lighter paint), Black Label Taiwan Octave (darker paint), Silver Label Taiwan Octave. Maybe they'll release a Wazacraft OC-2 that I can add to the collection Many thanks Si

Anyone else playing in the morning? I'm playing main stage with JoCee at 13:05, but have to shoot to another gig afterwards Cheers Si

Pretty much any low-gain pedal will do what you want, its just a case of finding a pedal that sounds good to your ears......there are a LOT of options Some good places to start for low-gain: Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk Fuzzrocious Dark Driving/BDPG/Ram The Manparts Xotic BB Bass Pre Mad Professor Blueberry Overdrive COG Knightfall Fulltone OCD So many more! Si
-
I've not heard a good word about any of the pedals in the Dr Green range. Just sayin. Seems very odd to have unity gain only at max pedal volume, unuseable. Have you tried with another bass, passive perhaps, same result? Si
-
Very sad, but at least they've finished for the right reasons I must have had one of the last sets of 84's perhaps, ordered a couple of weeks ago Si
-
It depends how much control you want from a 'preamp pedal', the term seems to get banded about, usually either clean pedals with EQ, or dirt pedals that can go low-gain.....with EQ lol Anyway, the Fuzzrocious BDPG is great, lots of cool sounds from it, dirt to dub. The Xotic BB pre is obviously a great shout. The Darkglass B7K should get a mention, although mainly a dirt pedal. Lots out there Si

Guys, inspired by this, I've started a little OC2 date & serial library/database on my blog here: http://simonpoulton.tumblr.com/ Perhaps it will turn into something bigger, but we'll see. Please let me know your serials either via this thread, the blog, twitter (@simonrpoulton or #OC2Database) Cheers Si

Ah, thanks for reminding me, just taken a look, all Japanese unless otherwise stated: Octave (Taiwan) - March 2000 Octave - September 1985 Octaver - July 1984 Octaver - May 1984 Octaver - February 1984 Octaver - November 1982 Octaver - May 1982 Guess I'm looking for a June '83 one huh, birth year OC-2 Si
Si, have you ever considered linking all those OC2s together & then playing through them up the dusty end on an electric violin?
If I had a pound for everyone who has asked me Si
-
Very interested to hear the COG Rat compared to the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail Si
-
Precisely, if it sounds good to your ears, then it is good The B3K goes fairly high-gain, so as a result, it will sound really saturated and will go Fuzz-like There's another thread on here where someone is complaining it's not gainy enough.......hardcore Si
-
It was just a passing throught really. It may not have the funcionality that you want, but it worked for me and with a much smaller footprint Si
-
Here's mine, now complete with COG custom pedal! :-) I'm stopping now, for a while at least!...
Very nice board! Have you ever considered a Boss PS-6 as a smaller alternative to the Whammy? Si
-
It's a grey, often debated topic, but there's a different between Fuzz & Distortion. All Fuzz is a type of Distortion, but not vice versa. I would argue that a B3K is an overdrive/distortion pedal as opposed to Fuzz, but it's often down to saturation. Really go crazy on gain and a lot of distortions start to sound like over-saturated fuzz, pull a fuzz pedal back to low gain, some nice low-overdrive sounds can be had. Again, it simply comes back to trying a load and seeing what you like, the B3K is a very popular pedal with active and passive players alike. Si
Here is my sherwood green custom shop, .... custom made with the very same pickup as the one on the Pino Palladino P. flater radius, plays like butter.
Beautiful, but why do people put tort guards on custom-colour Fenders? It's WRROOONNGGG Si

Hi guys, Looking for an alternative rock/hardcore type project, currently listening to Dot Hacker, EV Kain, O'Brother, Russian Circles, Dillinger Escape Plan etcetc Lots of experience, own gear, transport etc. Used to play in First Signs Of Frost if that means anything to you (check spotify) I'm a young looking 30, work full time, so whilst I want to take the 'art' seriously, realistically I can't tour month on month on month. Looking for guys in a similar position who want to strategically book awesome shows Cheers Si
