1. It's a combination of using them a LOT, so going a bit overboard on spares (I've used an OC-2 for pretty much any musical situation in the last 5 years, sometimes two on same board).....and being a big 'vintage' Boss fan, so I have a nice little collection of a pedal I use all the time, works for me . There's not a huge difference between the 3 models (Japanese Octaver, Japanese Octave, Taiwan Octave). The Japanese ones are a tiny but warmer to my ears, but you wouldn't notice on a gig, the earlier Octaver has a slight dip in unison gain that I've grown to like. Plus the Japanese tend to hold worth better, although the Taiwan OC-2s are creeping up Si
2. I played 5's exclusively for a good 3 years or so (after starting on 4's obviously), I never had any issues, but going back to 4's after so long was a revelation, they definitly feel like home to me. I do have a great 5 still, but it is rarely used, usually for dep gigs that I've no idea what key they want songs in, so its positional as opposed to specifially wanting low notes. I have an Octave pedal that I often just kick in for low notes, more than enough, there aren't too many 5 string players (metal aside) who simply sit down on the B string. But agreed, its what you feel most comfortable and free on. I understand it when people say "well its good to be challenged, makes you think and play in different ways", but my school of thought is "If you're so at home on an instrument that you forget it's there, you're more likely to concentrate on the music" Si
3. The Jerzy Drozd guide is fantastic. Hopefully this thread has sorted itself out now, good to see, I'm also going to move this over to the 'Repairs' section, just because it may have more focused attention there. I've also 'tidied' the thread to make more relevent to the OP. Cheers Si
4. I believe that the world, post apocalypse, will be inherited by cockroaches and OC-2s, I'm simply allying myself early :-D Si
5. I've been borrowing one of these just for testing, mostly played with a Barefaced Compact, sounds great! Someone will be very happy with these at that price Si
6. Yeah, apparently a few people have gone looking for pedals (OC-2s mostly) after my talk, this pleases me Si
7. Ah Janek is winning by a margin, think he's on 13 or so?! lol Si
8. Perhaps a bit toooo specific hehe, but gives me an excuse for a picture: All are Japanese apart from the Taiwan one on the board. And no......I haven't plugged them all in together yet Si
9. ACS all the way, don't sell yourself short, I haven't looked back since getting mine 2 years ago. Si
10. Never, especially with more modern stuff. But then my band seems to get work on the strength of 'our sound and vibe', as opposed to note-for-note covers. Of course there are exceptions though, you wouldn't change up the line to Billie Jean for example. Si
11. Definitly claiming fastest sale EVER!! lol Si
12. Hi guys, Got hold of a Fuzzrocious Dark Driving to try for some overdrive needs, but it's not quite right for me. The blurb is: "DARK DRIVING is a lower gain overdrive based upon the BJFE Blue Berry Bass OD and Honey Bee OD. There is no low end or mids loss with this pedal! Perfect for an "always on" OD!" Single knob for volume, internal trim pots for gain and bass, both set max currently. SOLD in 1 minute Trades: Xotic Bass BB Pre Fuzzrocious BDPG Fuzzrocious Oh See Demon Try me for any medium/high gain bass overdrive/distortion pedals along the lines of the Xotic, no ODB-3s please Cheers Si
13. All sorted now, was having an issue with the driver and needed to check it, hence the removal. Cheers Si
14. Added an Little Mark 2 and 3 to the trade options Cheers Si
15. I've had a Boss Slow Gear previously, to be honest, not overly great. The effect has been bettered since, so if you have a Behringer/Guyatone/Multi-FX equivalent, then thats as good as you'll get. Cool black pedal though . I've got a Boss VB-2 which is pretty rare/expensive, and that is really cool! Have a Meatbox to, although currently 'on the bench' Si
16. Balls, perhaps I should have left my Compact there for Alex Oh well, sorry I had to shoot off, gig commitments. Thanks for all who listened or took part in the FX 'talk', I really enjoyed it Si
17. £450 would be a nice price/trade value Si
